  1. A copy of this is in my latest "ImportCDs" order - in transit as we speak looking forward to the sounds of JT & The Strange Bros
  2. Might have something to do with the rights? After a few of these "Roling" CD's myself but am reluctant to pay the high prices (whenever they do turn up) - maybe I should search out the LP's (some of the "Roling" covers were Japanese LP issue only AFAIK) I'm fascinated by the cover art - those 16 (are there more?) lithographed covers designed by Marte are my favourite Jazz LP sleeves - wasn't aware that she based her designs on some of our own Brownie's (Guy Kopelowicz) photographs http://jazzlab.iwarp...discography.htm They would make a wonderful reissue/facsimile LP box set I'm also hoping the Japanese will reissue the series again on CD
  3. I bought one from Amazon Germany a few days ago (it was the best option for me between Amazon UK, France & Germany) The Box was 38.15 euros but came down to 32.06E after VAT was removed plus 12.28 Euros shipping to Australia (may be less to the US?) Total of 44.34 euros (approx 57.5 Australian $$'s which would be virtually the same in US $)
  4. this Japanese dealer has carried the Roling PHCE CD's but they've been pricey ($60+) http://www.ebay.com....=&_trksid=p3686

Fresh Sound have recently released the full 2CD version (all 13 titles) http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/alive_at_the_village_gate_1962_2_lps_on_2_cds_+_bonus_tracks-cd-5805.html
  6. too young!! - I didn't expect this was only just listening to the Reel CD "What More Can I Say" I adored that voice - one of my favourites was his french version of "May I" (puis je) The early Soft Machine (Ayers/Wyatt/Allen) were such an important musical influence on me - they also infused so much humour into the music which gradually disappeared as these members left RIP Kevin
  7. as Clifford T mentioned on this thread last November " I think it would do very well. The "Spiritual Jazz shirt-lifters" (to use Stefan Jaworzyn's term) are all over Tapscott records. It would sell a thousand copies quite easily, especially with that beautiful gatefold cover artwork and improved sound. Not to mention it's an unequivocally great album" I'm quite confident TGIA would shift 1000 units - it just needs to be advertised/marketed in the right places (Tom Albach may even carry it/sell it from his website - nimbuswest) or http://bjazz.blogspot.com.au/2007/11/maj-disco-tapscott.html I'm up for any of your releases - have them all so far
  8. I'm interested to know what/how many titles are on the Pettiford (13), Thomas (14) & Monk (16) discs - these will be mighty short if it's just the 10" tracks Does the Wilen (20) disc contain 15 titles as in the Vogue black digipak release (ie alternate takes) - BTW AFAIK this was never released as a 10" LP If the Wilen disc does contain all 15, it would be worth buying the box just for this disc - going for decent sums now
  9. That's what I thought too
  10. Jonathan sorry to throw a spanner in the works but what about the Tapscott FD - any progress there or is that on hold at present?
  11. arrived today via registered post - listening to it now standout killer track so far (finished 3 discs) is 52 minutes of a quartet with Brotzmann/Gania/Laswell/Drake - did anyone see this performance? The guimbri sounds like a didgeridoo at times (or is it another instrument) How does PB maintain this level of intensity at 70 yo ??
  12. sent them an email two weeks ago & enquired re shipping costs to Australia (for the NYA4 box) - no reply as of yet
  13. While this is certainly an interesting project, I don't think it really qualifies, given that each set is from a different group and you don't have any sense of the group settling down into a medium-length residency at a club. At least I thought that was what was being discussed. Certainly some of these sets don't really qualify. Not precisely the same but the Goodman Madhattan Room Broadcasts might be of interest. Not sure there is a legit source for them at the moment (as a box set that is). you're right - didn't get the full gist of the thread ie "having a complete (or almost complete) record of a substantial live date or set of dates" - have modified my list
  14. Jeff thanks for uploading those files from your newly aquired 78 - now have them in iTunes, beefing up my Mobley collection nice to have some early Hank - don't have any of his Regal material is that him soloing with the whistler (Paul Gayten I presume)?
  15. What about AMM - The Crypt (2CD Matchless) Waldron / Lacy - Live At Dreher Paris 1981 (4CD Hatology) Charles Mingus - Complete 61-62 Birdland Broadcasts (3CD RLR) Trio X - 2006 US Tour (7CD CIMP/Cadence) -> does this qualify ie same group but different locations Trio X - Live On Tour 2008 (5CD CIMP/Cadence) -> ditto Anthony Braxton Ninetet - Yoshi's 1997 (8CD - Leo) Anthony Braxton Quartet - Coventry 1985 (4CD - Leo)
  16. havn't received my copy yet but admittedly I'm a bit further away from the source
  17. Doesn't make sense - all of the individual CDs are available (some are OOP but still easy to pick up) - nothing rare or exclusive about that I was lucky enough to get Andrew to autograph the set when he played here in Brisbane in the late 90's
  18. Grooves-inc (Switzerland) currently have a 15% discount (till Feb 18) on any single item (code us112) -> discount on the highest priced item in order (if order total is over 20 euros then shipping is free) They have the box advertised as 19.99 euros & with the discount the price came down to 16.99 (also free shipping).
  19. pm on John Coxon/Evan Parker/Eddie Prevost – Cinema (Fataka) Ganelin Trio – Priority (SLR) Charles Gayle Trio – Look Up (ESP) Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra with Evan Parker & Lol Coxhill – Improcherto (for HB) (Iorram) Evan Parker/Wes Neal/Joe Sorbara – At Somewhere There (Barnyard) Ivo Perelman/Dominic Duval – Soul Calling (CJR)
  20. OMG - how did I miss this? RIP Donald have quite a bit of your recorded output & will give it a memorial replay
  21. Many thanks I had an inkling there would be previous threads dedicated to him but finding them can be a challenge
  22. I've just read about/discovered Frank Hewitt, a Hard Bop pianist (born in 36) who only recorded for a short time span (late 90's to the early 2000's) before he passed. His recordings are solely on the Smalls label (correct?) - any recommendations Anyone see him perform?
  23. thanks Jim that's a pity - hopefully there may have been audience recordings that could surface in the future
  24. Were there any recordings made of the Randall island (NYC) Jazz Festivals Chet Baker played with Bob Zieff on piano in 1958 while Zieff led a larger band in 1959 that included Steve Lacy I've never seen any of this material listed or circulating particularly interested in any Zieff performances
