  1. Woody Shaw's CBS box at POP MARKET for $45.99 plus free shipping
  2. The above track listing & order is identical to the US set (including mono, stereo) Would have to concur with the description of the euro 20 bit OJC
  3. Here's the breakdown on the US 15 CD box following the LP sequence Abide With Me - Stereo (Mono in K2) Well, You Needn't - Stereo (Mono in K2) Ruby, My Dear (Coleman Hawkins) - Stereo (mono in K2) Off Minor (tk 5) - stereo (mono in K2) Epistrophy - stereo (mono in K2) Crepuscle With Nellie (tk 6) - mono (mono in K2) non LP (CD bonus) Off Minor (tk 4) - mono (mono in K2) Crepuscle With Nellie (tks 4 & 5) - stereo (stereo in K2) Blues For Tomorrow (Monk absent) - mono (not on K2) -> the stereo version was first issued on the 2006 Riverside twofer (TM & JC); also stereo on the recent OJC remaster Hans, I'm interested to know the details of the Japanese box - are there both mono & stereo versions of these titles? Also the European 20bit Digipak OJC of Monk's Music is also mono (same as US K2)
  4. My compromise is Complete original 15CD set (1986 Fantasy) - essential!! plus the new 24bit remasters from recent years & current rereleases 4 Keepnews (Plays Ellington, Brilliant Corners, Thelonious Himself, At Town Hall), 3 OJC remasters (With John Coltrane, Alone In San Francisco, Monk's Music) plus the double set from 2006 (TM with JC). plus the 2001 K2 mono version of Monk's Music - sounds better than the stereo counterpart (has been a separate thread on this)
  5. As Clay Davis from the "Wire" would say "sheeeeeeeeeeeiiiit"
  6. just found a bit more info it's a Membran product - usually poor quality transfers etc still, probably worth getting http://www.membran-online.de/product_info.php?language=en&products_id=4314
  7. Amazon UK are releasing early next month the 30CD set of the Complete Charlie Parker Records Is this a first time release on CD? (components may have been issued as separated CD's) Can't see details re sources/origins but I'm quite sure it's European http://www.amazon.co.uk/Charlie-Parker-Records-Complete-Collection/dp/B006ZUKBJ4/ref=wl_it_dp_o_npd?ie=UTF8&coliid=I23K5VXH6YY53I&colid=31R0V5XWEG6QN
  8. Have both of the Matching Mole LP's - might get them out & give them a whirl (havn't listed to them for years) Robert Wyatt has a very special place in my music likes

    Crusaders

All I know is the album INTRODUCING KENNY COX AND THE CONTEMPORARY JAZZ QUINTET, recorded in 1968 and '69, includes the Cox composition TRANCE DANCE, and it sounds better than the Crusaders version. This Kenny Cox group seems to be reaching for a sound similar to the "second great" Miles Davis Quintet and features Joe Henderson's brother, Leon, on tenor. I like the album a lot and the tune SOJOURN is one of my all-time favorites. Thanks for the info on Leon Henderson - never knew he was Joe Henderson's brother
  10. same here (all of the above plus ISKRA, Rutherford Great mail order service (CD's usually get to Australia within 5-7 days) Martin lived in Australia (Sydney) & the states for a time - Emanem LP's were released from those countries (ie Aussie & US pressings) while he resided there He was happy to get Evan Parker to autograph one of his PSI CD's for me recently Might ask him to confirm the above name derivation next time I drop a line/order
  11. I've been mining the British "small label" axis for 14 years or so now (Ogun, Emanem, PSI, Incus, FMR, Matchless, Fledgling,Trunk, Vocalion) What a treasure trove A plug for AMM (Prevost/Gare/Cardew/Tilbury/Rowe/DeSaram), one of the great British Improv Institutions Have just found the Emanem thread - I agree, it should be transferred to recommendations
  12. Actually the whole LP is on disc V (just looked)
  13. the only likely possibility IMHO would be a TOCJ release like "Heaven On Earth" in 2010
  14. Thanks for all of the above information I knew that Jack/Hazel had wound down Cadillac Distribution but still had a modified website -> looks like that has folded too (I'm sure I accessed the site not too long ago) Amazon UK has the latest Ogun release on special at present (9.10 pounds)
  15. oink, oink got 7 CD's from them last week - enjoying them all right now (Evan Parker, Dizzy Reece, Steve Lacy, Dyani/Waldron, Pepper Adams, Sam Rivers, Jaki Byard) I'm wondering if any of the OOP CD's will be repressed? - I'm particularly after the Billy Harper one I made mention to the OOP CD's in my order but Gerard did not reply to that
  16. Ogun has just released a new Blue Notes CD "Before The Wind Changes" (live Waregem 1979) BTW the Ogun/Cadillac Distribution website does not appear to be functioning - all of the URL's I've tried are unsuccessful
  17. Have you had any luck - I'm in the same boat (would like both VeeJay Mosaics) - they tend to go for decent prices & weren't around for long (did the licences expire prematurely - thought I read that on a previous thread) Were released when the Australian dollar was at the bottom of the barrel (45c) so Mosaics at that time for me were prohibitively expensive - different situation now (Aussie $ past parity & sitting on 1.07 at present) - good time to buy if you live in Australia. A commodity based currency & we have a resources boom here at present (China wants our raw materials).
  18. That's Tony W. sure was Anton Webern!!
  19. The acts were The Remains, Heeb, Cyrkle, and the Ronettes. Pretty solid bill! The Remains - now that would have been a band on my want to see list
  20. same here Dear Stephen, today we will send by priority mail the Box Set of David Murray BXS 1010 without mistakes. Sorry for delay. Best Regards Simone looks like they mean business - good on em!
  21. hint - think pothead pixies Is that a Gong reference? indeed! that's Gilli Smith (Shakti Yoni) Did we ever determine who this is? Nope - and here's another couple of clues. He and his co-leader had their first hits in the 60s (when they were a bit more 'psychadelic') and have been charting pretty well every decade since with their 2 or 3 chord ditties. looks like Rick Parfitt from Status Quo
  22. And let's not forget the Velvet Underground I think he produced the first three LP's, including the "Banana" cover, even though that's been credited to Andy Warhol (he had very little to do with the production)
  23. The last year has been good for Les Pretty Lady has also just been released as a TOCJ CD (Dec last year); Also Sings (with Gerald Wilson) was released (TOCJ again) earlier last year Fresh Sound have also released "The Shout" & "The Truth" recently with extra titles from the sessions Just Don't know about the Fresh Sounds - good sound & liner notes (Jordi has come up with new/revised recording dates for a few of these sessions - wonder where he is getting his info from? - some of it seems to make sense) Does he have access to PJ tapes?? - I know he has an interest in West Coast Jazz & was able to access a the Hollywood Nocturne material legitimately, some of it unreleased (even more than the Mosaic Select PJ Trios box could offer)
