Brel CDs arrived today - as usual, all in beautiful condition

I agree for those rarer/hard to find CDs but I have had the experience of ordering items that are listed to find out that they are OOP/not in stock (eg Charles Tyler, Pere Ubu). Now, before I place an order I contact them to find out if the items are in stock or available (even though they are listed in their catalogue).

Thanks - I thought this had been discussed previously This is a recurrent problem I have with the site - searching for old threads - I usually do this via Google & add organissimo into the criteria (other members have also recommended this technique) I did the search & got this thread Maybe the two should be merged?

Just got the new Zappa released Bat Chain Puller CD & the sonics just blow away any of the previous releases This is a must have for any Van Vliet fan & has to be a strong contender for the "Rock" reissue of the year There are three extra tracks (including Hobo-ism) not from the same sessions (unknown date & musicians)

Actually, the CD is still quite easy to find - I recently bought a copy from Import CDs for $11 (they currently have copies in stock - just looked) I find that DMG sometimes "hype" up their stock

thanks Can't imagine this CD will be hard to track down In the liner notes to the Mingus CD "Alternate Takes", Brian Priestley notes that the edited versions should have also been rereleased "It might be instructive - if perhaps uneconomic - to have a fourth CD comprising the originally issued edits, just to remind us how creatively they too were achieved by Mingus"

I'm wondering if the writers of the Spider-Man theme (Paul Webster & Robert Harris) had been listening to Mingus Have been listening to CM's "Ah Um" & the track "Boogie Stop Shuffle" (1959 - written 8 years earlier) sounds similar to "Spider-Man"(1967) Just played "Boogie Stop Shuffle" to my partner (without giving her any history etc) & her first comment was that it sounds like "Spider-Man" - so it's not just me!!

Second Hans' opinion about Bessie Smith's recordings. totally agree - I have the Frog set & the Columbia LPs & IMHO the "Frogs" are superior

Erskine Hawkins would be a good follow up. I was thinking 30s Earl Hines would be a good choice too. I suppose it will be pre Wardell Gray Hines led a big band from 1928 to 1948. Wardell Gray was with Hines during 1943-1945. I was aware of that but I'm wondering if the "choice" years that would comprise the box would exclude the WG period

Just picked up this magnificent 6CD solo set from the Lithuanian "NoBusiness" label The Complete Short Stories 1998-2010 2CDs were released on the ESP Productions label (in 1998?) & another 2 on the Slam label, the last 2 most recent recordings are unreleased
