  1. We established that the earliest gigs were March '69, yet a new call for attendees shows up still talking about late '68. When someone comes on to the board and starts a thread, then never reads the further postings in that thread, I call that spam. Bertrand.
  2. I thought Mal Waldron's The Quest and Bobby Timmons' This Here were part of the Concord RVG series, but perhaps I was wrong. Does anyone know? Thanks, Bertrand.
  3. Wayne Shorter's 'Sacajawea' has a certain Native American feel. Bertrand.
  4. Does Hiroshi take any other from of payment then paypal? Bertrand.
  5. I will be at the Saturday night show at Smalls'. Anyone else going? Send me a PM if you want to meet. Bertrand.
  6. Got mine today. I heard 3-4 tunes so far and this CD kicks some serious butt. The DVD will have to wait until next week. Bertrand.
  7. Expect the unexpected. Bertrand.
  8. I was planning on going but thought it was open to the public. Glad you noted that a reservation is needed. LC is a 15 minute walk from my office. I used to go there a lot, but that's for another thread, another time. Bertrand.
  9. The quintet tracks are killer. There are some bizarre things in the orchestral arrangements, but nothing that bad. Not the best Lee, but certainly no need to avoid it. Wayne Shorter and Joe Henderson are involved - good enough for me. Bertrand.
  10. I need to buy a new CD player and I want to get it soon because we've been without one in the living room for far too long. I much prefer a single disc player. There are no more brick-and-mortar stores to buy these in. One recommendation I got is the Marantz CD5003. Is there any reason not to get this one? Alternatively, I got a recommendation for Emotiva. Any suggestions? The $350 for the Marantz sounds good; I don't think I need to much higher. Bertrand.
  11. How was Logan? Bertrand.
  12. I thought the Trader Joe's instant was excellent, but then they discontinued it and replaced it with an acceptable but not nearly as good Columbian. Then, lo and behold, I saw last week-end that the original instant was back! Trader Joe's often discontinues products due to poor sales (they're the Blue Note of grocery stores), but this is the first time I've ever seen them bring a product back. I will have to ask if a petition was signed or what. Trader Joe's deserves its own thread; man, I love that place. Bertrand.
  13. I admire your upbeat attitude. Best wishes on a speedy recovery. Bertrand.
  14. With Blue Notes, the abundance of typos may actually be a mark of authenticity. Bertrand.
  15. The crowd was quite good in the first set; not SRO or anything, but far from empty. Beautiful music - a killer second set, with Sarah Hughes on alto joining tenor Brad Linde on four tunes in a row from Shades Of Redd: Ole, Shadows, Melanie and Thespian. Two Freddie originals in the first set: Nica Steps Out and O.D. Highly recommended if anyone can make it out. Bertrand.
  16. I'll be there both nights.
  17. Another Leonard Feather fuck-up. Bertrand.
  18. Awesome! Congratulations! Bertrand.
  19. Always found that picture of Miles extremely troubling. Bertrand.
  20. 1) It's been 40 years and some people still haven't gotten over it. 2) Did Miles steal all his drummers from Jackie 3) Is the bootleg series what I hope it will be? If so, it's long overdue. 4) Why did this take place in Austin? Bertrand.
  21. Edited, smarty-pants Bertrand.
  22. Can someone remind me what the deal was with this? There was a problem with the Moncur Mosaic. I think disc 3 had the whole Hipnosis session, but the rest of the disc was not what was supposed to be on it. I believe they repressed the third disc and people could trade it in. So what happened to all the bad disc 3s? Does Mosaic still have a bunch? Does anyone have a spare lying around? I ask because I doubt Hipnosis will ever come out on its own. The fact that Larry Young's Heaven On Earth is coming out as a TOCJ does give me some hope. Bertrand.
  23. Thanks, I'll contact Hiroshi, but CD Universe has a decent price on a preorder (under $19 including shipping). For a TOCJ, that seems reasonable. They show a 5/11 release date. Is it possible that CD Universe never gets this in? I've only ordered U.S. titles from them. How do preorders work? If 50 of us preorder, will they make sure they will get 50 titles to satisfy all the orders or will 48 of them be cancelled? Of course, right after I get this, Blue Note will announce an RVG two-fer of Contrasts and Heaven On Earth which I will be able to get at Borders' with a coupon for $8 Bertrand.
  24. Just saw this thread. I admit I've never bought from Hiroshi. How can I get the Heaven On Earth? Will it be available elsewhere? What's the best chance to get a decent price? Thanks, Bertrand.
  25. Strange - I got that one in December for $8 shipping included (great album!), but then it was gone at that price and showed only the outrageously priced ones. Then the $8 was back a month ago, and now it's gone again. Maybe $111 is a typo? Easy Does It is excellent. Highly recommended if you dig Bobby Timmons. Bertrand.
