Miles Davis - Very Best of Warner Bros (1985-91)
bertrand replied to Aggie87's topic in Recommendations
But the best track from this period, 'Portia', is missing from this collection. I saw Miles a few times during this period. The September '86 gig in Paris was incredible. Bertrand. -
Thanks for the warning, Cali, I'll stay away. Bertrand.

Actor David Carradine found dead in Bangkok
bertrand replied to porcy62's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Why the fuck do the media need to report this fact? They could have just said 'the death seemed to be accidental' and left it at that. The internet would have spread the word anyway. Not that we really need to know. In general, when a 'celebrity' dies, why do some people feel they are entitled to know the cause of death? What if it is something embarrassing (as is the case here)? It just adds to the family's grief. Bertrand. -
You cannot make copies of the recordings at LoC, that goes without saying. It's annoying to me that I occasionally mention these things here, and invariably someone starts asking about copies or PMs me. One time, someone was berating me because they knew someone who had successfully made copies and was suggesting I was a wimp for not doing the same. I've been going there for years, they've earned my trust, does this dude really think I'd throw that all away??? I'm sorry if someone felt the staff was overbearing, but I can assure you they did not interrupt because they did not trust them. Bertrand.

Yes, the Soothsayer thing was a fiasco. I decided to wait for the RVG to repurchase it, and I still hear some shrill parts (esp. on 'Lady Day'). Definitely improvement, but some of the problems must be in the master tape. Bertrand.

New Freddie Hubbard coming out on Blue Note
bertrand replied to ghost of miles's topic in New Releases
Are we talking about youmustbe? He was banned? When did that happen? Long overdue. Someone PM me the details please. After all the horrible crap he posted, I'm curious to see what it is that earned him a removal. Bertrand. -
You can find a listing for a lot of interesting things they have on the SONIC database on the loc.gov website. I listened to a Dewey Redman quintet set from 1974 last week; mostly material from Ear Of The Behearer. Bertrand.

Why are 'Maids Of Cadiz' and "Teo' on the second CD of Sketches Of Spain? Bertrand.

Below is what jazzdisco.org has to say on this session. I believe all of this was in the Dolphy box. 1) Are there any tracks from this date that are usable that were not in the box? 2) Which tunes are not on the two volumes of the RVG? I'll check track listings later at CD universe. Bertrand. But there will still be a couple of orphan tracks, correct? I believe a solo 'God Bless The Child' is one of them. Bertrand.

What's also hilarious is that now the Vanguard makes a point of NOT serving food, or even coffee. They don't have a kitchen. Bertrand.

The Story of Blue Note

Kahn told me this should be ready by early 2010. Bertrand. -
The Japanese CD of Sonny Stitt sits in with the Oscar Peterson Trio has 3 bonus tracks from 10/10/57. Anyone know the personnel on this? Jazzdisco.org seems to know nothing about this. Thanks, Bertrand.

No, the list of Nichols titles was in a trunk at his father's place which was later destroyed by a flood. I think the trunk contained some music as well. I believe the list was salvaged, and Roswell Rudd must have a copy. I would love to see this list to see how it differs from what was sent in for copyright. There are some tunes that are known which were not copyrighted. You can find the list of what was copyrighted at www.loc.gov; click on 'library catalogs', then do a 'basic search' by call number with the call number M1356.2 Bertrand.

Have a great one! Bertrand. -
Actually something from the same tour (this one in Paris) popped up on youtube. The quality is much better. Can Reelin' In The Years put this stuff out? Bertrand.

It seems she can no longer play or compose, which is really a shame. Bertrand.

Groening is also one of Mosaic's best customers, I read somewhere. Bertrand.

Thank you, gentlemen, for rescuing this thread from the crapper.

To believe an accusation like that, I would need a lot more than one source. This same source has proven to be sprouting BS in the past. Bertrand.
