  1. I found their performance of 'Sugar Magnolia' on Letterman tonight somewhat lackluster. Bertrand.
  2. If Twins in D.C. is not in the plans this time, perhaps Bohemian Caverns? Bertrand.
  3. I was whistling 'Half A Dozen Provocative Squats' the other day in my cubicle at work. Will I get in trouble? Bertrand.
  4. This thread makes me puke.
  5. What is it we are trying to find out? Bertrand.
  6. Icing on the cake: the takes to be used for the Blakey will be the ones suggested by Kevin Bresnahan. He will get co-producer credit. Bertrand.
  7. I saw Freddie Redd 3 times this week: 1) At Twins in D.C. on Wednesday 3/25. 2) At a private party/jam session on Thursday 3/26. 3) At Smalls' in NYC on Saturday 3/28. Freddie played tunes from his three BN LPs arranged for quintet/sextet by my friend Brad Linde, who did an amazing job putting this together and booking Freddie. Freddie had not played most of these since the original sessions almost 50 years ago! He sounded amazing. Personnel and set lists to follow. Bertrand.
  8. The Jefferson Airplane covered 'Other Side Of This Life' - it was part of their set list. Bertrand.
  9. There is also www.loc.gov fro copyright deposits. Neither tune shows up online. This either means: 1) The tune was not registered 2) There is no 'activity' (registration or renewal) since 1978, so the info can only be found in the physical card catalogs on site at LC. Bertrand.
  10. You beat me to it! (Plastic) Bertrand.
  11. Sounds interesting, but I'm sure these are boots. Bertrand.
  12. As stated earlier, as far as we can tell, there were 2 McMaster pressings (at least): one good, one bad. I was lucky that the one I picked up used years ago was good. The Collectors' Choice was a repressing of the BAD pressing. Bertrand.
  13. He did this gig last year: http://www.harpersferryhistory.org/events.htm Bertrand.
  14. I wonder what this band would have been like had Miles not been such a lazy motherfucker and learned some Mobley originals. Bertrand.
  15. Bartz is on five of the 6 tracks, which are sextet with Lee+Freddie. He wrote 'Freedom Monday', but Blakey put his name on it. Also the title track is credited to both trumpeters, but the copyright is Freddie only. Lucky is the sole horn on 'Spot Session', which is from a different date. The tune 'Slowly But Surely' is from the same date as the sextet tracks, but was put on another LP. I bet they won't include here where it belongs. This is currently available on iTunes. I bought it assuming it would never come out on CD. I'll stay away from those Jazztet downloads. Bertrand.
  16. In case there was any doubt 24 hours later - the thing about the tree was a joke. Bertrand.
  17. If you get the Blackhawk 4-CD, the Carnegie Hall twofer, and 'Prince', you pretty much have all the official Mobley with Miles, unless there are some out-takes from 'Prince' I don't know about. I'm not really sure there is a need to have this further boxed. Of course, this is the official stuff. We'll not even get into the 20-CD tree of Mobley with Miles that's circulating. Bertrand.
  18. My instinct would tell me to stay away from any joint owned by that hack Arturo Sandoval.

Fasstrack, Are you referring to Gerry Eastman the guitarist? Did he recently pass? I didn't think he was that old. He used to be a member of Super Nova, a great band based in D.C., although I guess he left a while ago. Very sad to hear this. Bertrand.
  20. Is Joe Chambers on either of these?
  21. Every time there's a nice thread going, Allen Lowe has to come on and ruin it.
  22. There is a volume drop on 'Blue Rondo' on the McMaster as well - I have a McMaster where the tracks were separated correctly. I suspect the 'Blue Rondo' thing is in the tape. Bertrand.
  23. A friend of mine sent me a 40% coupon for books only ending today. But I went there yesterday to get 'Rollin' With Leo', armed with a 25% coupon I had from elsewhere, and the nice guy at the register insisted on giving me 40% off from a coupon he had there which he said was out there for the week-end. So is there a 40% off CDs thing going around as well? I had my eye on a couple of other things... I had not been getting coupons for awhile because I forgot to give them my new e-mail address- duh! Bertrand.
  24. This would be an excellent 3-CD Mosaic Select: Super Nova Odyssey Of Iska Moto Grosso Feio Unissued 10/13/70 But the word on the street is that Wayne does not want that last session released, so that's that. Except I was given some contradictory information when I put together the Appendix to his bio a few years ago, so who knows what the truth is. Bertrand.
  25. Yeah, a google search just confused the crap out of me. I sent an e-mail to customer service - hope I hear back tomorrow. I might also try ordering from a different computer. Maybe it's a subtle hint that I have too many CDs Bertrand.
