Masturbating Lowers Prostate Cancer Risk

It also helps lower the risk of lung cancer, what with all those post-coital cigarettes you're not having. Bertrand. -
I Want to Learn About the History of SF Jazz

Would Dewey Redman be included, or had he left San Francisco before the period you are investigating? Bertrand. -
Guy, Do you happen to know what tunes they played? Thanks, Bertrand.

Masturbating Lowers Prostate Cancer Risk

Speaking of Letterman, one time his top ten list was: 'top ten yo-yo tricks'. he then proceeded to read it: 'slamming the monkey, chocking the chicken' etc. He stopped around number five, and said something like: 'that doesn't seem right' and read a different list. It was hilarious. The audience was in stitches. These guys are Australian, right? Then I propose a new euphemism: 'caressing the koala'. Bertrand. -
"Blood on the Fields" vs. "Headhunters"
bertrand replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Who was doing anything like Blood On The Fields before Wynton was doing it? The real question is, who will ever want to do it again! Bertrand. -
Jackie took some time off for health reasons last year. However, he did a week at the Iridium in May (for his 72nd birthday). I was told he played great. I think he is slowly coming back on the scene, and I hope I can see him at his annual pre-Xmas bash at the Vanguard (I had to skip the Iridium, unfortunately). Recordings are another issue. He hasn't recorded since Nature Boy in the late 90s. When I asked Evered on the old board about the status of his affiliation with BN, I got the customary rude reply. It's amazing to me that a player of his stature has trouble getting a record deal. It's not like he has chop problems - he played superbly at the Andrew Hill/Jackie McLean/Bobby Hutcherson/Billy Higgins show in NYC in June 2000. He's just not a young lion, and lazy record companies find that harder to market. I for one will continue to buy any record he makes and see him as much as possible. He is one of the few survivors from a uniquely creative era in jazz the likes of which we will never see again. There is still great music being made today, but Jackie's era was special. That's just my opinion, of course. Bertrand.

The study also suggests that listening to Charles LLoyd's Dream Weaver while doing the deed will further reduce the risk. Bertrand. -
Dewey Redman - The Struggle Continues (ECM). This is the best record you've never heard. Bertrand.

Please... we need your help.
bertrand replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Stefan's recommendation of the Black Cat is excellent, but I think you also have a very good shot with either of the two main jazz clubs in town that book out-of-town talent. 1. Blues Alley (www.bluesalley.com) 202-337-4141 (ask for Ralph). They seem to make an effort to experiment on weeknights (week-ends are often very commercial), so it's worth a try. Of course, they are booked for a while. 2. Twins (www.twinsjazz.com) 202-234-0072 (ask for Kelley - if she asks if you are famous, say yes). Twins is a funny place, but they do get very good music. I think they don't pay much, and I've been told they often are unreliable. Since you know Bill Heid, who plays there often, he may give you an opinion. Some people play there often, others never go back. But the atmosphere is more 'real', IMHO. Hope you can make it to D.C. I'm dying to meet those luscious boogaloo sisters. Bertrand. -
Things You Won't Hear People Say
bertrand replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Fuckheads. They know damn well that most of us came here. I don't get anywhere near those other two boards. To me, this change in their message clearly indicates that they have decided not to reopen. In a couple of weeks, it will be 'the BNBB has permanently closed' and then the same recommendations. I get all I need right here, and I barely have time to post anymore due to some 'personal issues' anyway. Thanks again to b3-er and company for starting this up! Bertrand. -
Could someone post the correct track listing for the Blue Note CD of Booby Hutcherson's San Francisco? I know the CD listing is incorrect. Thanks in advance, Bertrand.

Jazz you find very spiritual

Connoisseur, Please tell me more about Salim Washington. He will be in D.C. in a couple of weeks, and I'm not familiar with him at all. Thanks, Bertrand. -
Andrew Hill Quartet - Iowa City Jazz Festival

Michael Cuscuna told me that the title of this CD will be Passing Ships. Some tunes were also renamed (or given a name). I will look for the e-mail. Bertrand. -
It is my understanding that some of Alegria was recorded before Footprints Live!, and some parts more recently. Bertrand.

I'll be driving up from DC with a friend for this concert. Anyone else going? I'm in seats BB12-14. See you there, Bertrand.

I taught my three-year old son Matthew how to silly-walk. We'll be walking, and he'll just spontaneously burst into it. There's a job waiting for him at the Ministry of Silly Walks. Oh, and I also taught him how to recognize Lee Morgan's trumpet attack. Bertrand. -
I’m off to Paris (France) tomorrow. We all need the vacation desperately. I know this was covered on the old board, but I never printed the threads. Does anyone know any obscure stores with a surprisingly good stash of jazz CDs (or vinyl)? I'm definitely going to hit a couple of FNACS and the Virgin on the Champs-Elysees, and of course Paris Jazz Corner. But are there any others worth checking out? I also will hit he big 4-0 on Monday. Ouch! Thanks in advance, Bertrand.

Thanks for the info everyone. Dmitry, is the Smoke session all night long? Bertrand.

I just found out that sadly, that great little joint that was Small's is closed. Does anyone know of any all-night jams like they used to have in some other club? Or any all-night place to hang-out in NYC? I was thinking of going up June 28th for the Shorter Carnegie Hall bash, but instead of getting a hotel, I was thinking of just hanging out until taking a bus back that Sunday afternoon. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Bertrand.

Cali, Sidewinder, Both Sproles and Merritt are tall guys, so either fits the bill. If Wayne and Curtis were in the group as well, then we have the two following options (since it is not Reggie): 1. It was Merritt, and then the gig would have been 1961 or 1962. Jymie was still in the group for a while after Curtis joined. Bobby Timmons was on piano for the first sextet record (on Impulse!), then was replaced by Walton. Reggie replaced Jymie later, after a couple of Blue Notes. 2. It was Sproles, and then it would be 1965. In that case, Wayne was about to be replaced by John Gilmore - this might have been one of his last gigs. Cedar was also about to replaced by Hicks. There are no recordings of a sextet with Shorter and Sproles, at least that I know of. Mike Fitzgerald's chronology could probably help us solve this mystery (it might tell us when Blakey played at that club), but I can't get to it right now. Very interesting! Bertrand.

Anyone? I'm dying to know... Bertrand.
-
Cali, If it was '63 or '64, it probably was Reggie Workman (and 1964). If you are sure it was Merrit, however, then it would have to have been 1960 or 1961. Jymie left the band in 1961 or 1962, and I don't think he came back later for a spell. I could check Mike's Fitzgerald's Blakey chronology, but it's late. You are lucky to have met these master musicians. I was born in 1963. Bertrand.

Daniel, Good luck! See you in September. Bertrand.

Yesterday, I saw the following CD at the daedalus outlet in Columbia, MD (www.daedalusbooks.com). Jazz All Stars: Live in Hi-Fi—1950s FM Broadcasts There are three cuts with Mingus: Confirmation, Just Bohemia, and What Is This Thing Called Love. The CD listed a recording date of 1957 (Cafe Bohemia), but the only personnel listed was Phineas Newborn added on 'Love'. Does anyone know who plays on this? I'm wondering if it's the 1956 Bohemia air check with Jackie McLean. If so, I need to go back and get it since (as I posted on the old board), I'm trying to collect every scrap of Jackie Mac. Has anyone heard this? How bad is the sound quality? Thanks in advance, Bertrand.
