Apparently there were multiple sets. I have always hoped the Complete Blakey at The Jazz Corner of the World from 1960 would come out one day, even if it is more takes of the same tunes.

What's extra in the Beatles box - the 6-hour, unedited version of Revolution #9

Out of stock everywhere - are they going to add the extra track to CD#5? Mine is on the way, will hold off on opening it right away...

Shearing and the Adderley Bros. Newport 1957
bertrand replied to Larry Kart's topic in Recommendations
So some of Newport 1957 was recorded? Was that the year Wayne Shorter played with Horace Silver? -
You know him! Bags as we call him lives in the DC area. He is a member of the Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra and is on their CDs. He rarely does leader dates, but I booked him for two at the Smithsonian. An octet tribute to Kenny Dorham in February 2013, and the Cal Massey 90th birthday celebration last January (sextet). One of Cal's daughters and her husband Pierre Chambers (son of Paul) were there. Bertrand. Amazing that Lee Morgan was almost on Mingus and Friends but was sick (Dizzy mentions it). A few days later, he was gone

I am occasionally in touch with Joe, let's see what he might remember. No guarantees. Has anyone ever wondered who trumpeter Mike Davis on those last records is?

Dream is You was actually already recorded by Don Braden and Vanessa Rubin with her lyrics, but this could be the first instrumental recording. It will probably be on her Dameron CD next year. IIRC Sando Latino was one of several Tadd tunes on Milt Jackson's lost Atlantic record, so it had to come directly or indirectly from the Library of Congress. I will investigate. Also, Todd's biographer Paul Combs recorded a CD of rare material, not sure when it will come out. Very psyched because one of my favorite vocalists, Danielle Wertz, is on a few tunes. Bertrand. PS: I should get paid for the hell I go through every time I try to look at jazz lead sheets at the Library of Congress. One Librarian tells me jazz is not art, another makes crazy restrictions on how to handle the music. I was the one who told them to protect it in folders. It might just be because it's me, I heard them whispering amongst each other. No one will be willing to do the work I do, so some of this music may be lost forever if I decide to throw in the towel. There are some rare Julius Watkins charts I am trying to figure out what could be done with...

So glad someone is finally recording some of those unknown Tadd tunes I unearthed. Amazing how they were just sitting there. Going to order that one ASAP. Bertrand.

Resonance is way beyond DG.

Any thoughts on Joe Chambers with Mingus? Essentially it's the Mingus and Friends in concert set, as well as the last sessions on which Mingus does not actually play. Bertrand.

I am as well, but maybe not for the same reason. What about this irritates you? I am annoyed by the hyperbole ubu referred to.

Mine is on the way. Annoying as hell about this extra track. They could have included a download card.
-
I hope they can get the Ornette and Weather Report.

Just googled him for no specific reason. He passed away in March. Just search 'Jimmy Woods sax Alaska'.

According to James Newton, Roland Hannah wrote Muses. Also, Jim Crow on Other Apects is by Bob James. Bertrand.

I am sorry to be nitpicky, but Marilyn's Dilemma was composed by Billy Higgins. The Butch Warren piece is The Way I Feel. Blue Note kept crediting it to John Patton, but I was able to figure out just before Vertigo came out on US CD that it was actually written by my friend Butch. I am happy to have gotten his composer credit back, and in fact I heard him play it a couple of times! It was not John Patton's fault, someone at Blue Note dropped the ball. Bertrand.

iTunes is doing something weird. I click on a playlist to burn it to a CD, but it proceeds to burn a different playlist to the CD than the one I am in. I had to download the new version to be able to update my credit card in the store (???), could it be a bug in the new version? Thanks, Bertrand.

I hate this whole 'state secret' aspect of Resonance's business model. We're talking about a jazz record, for Pete's sake, not the nuclear codes.
-
All of this material plus the extra tracks is going to be issued on Resonance soon. Bertrand.

None of these have 'Harlem Is Awful Messy' because they think it is missing. Not a great piece, but complete is complete... -

What do we know about Michael Mattos? Truly a mystery guy. Bertrand. -
Bringing out Lee Konitz would be a brilliant stroke, but I don't expect it. I would imagine Herbie would be involved. It blows my mind that no promoter ever brought Konitz and Wayne together.

I am sure it is the Three Marias. Good question, where is the title track???
