  1. Was the Bartz/Shaw in DC recorded at One Step Down? Damn.
  2. Apparently Wallace is in the studio with this project now. This is great news. Anyone have any more details? Bertrand.
  3. My copy from Deep Discount is on the way! Bertrand.
  4. I am going to the concert in DC tonight. I made my first nomination this year. I nominated Joe Chambers. He stays in the system 5 years. If I am up to doing the paperwork again next year, some cats on my radar are Gary Bartz, Dr. Lonnie, and two wild cards: Grachan and Freddie Redd. You can only make one nomination a year. Bertrand.
  5. I wound up doing the Appendix to his biography instead. John Cottrell passed away in early 2013. Any info you have on this session would be welcome! Bertrand.
  6. Has anyone actually gotten this yet? It is temporarily out of stock everywhere. Bertrand.
  7. I attended a Left Bank tribute concert in Baltimore two weeks ago. There was a panel discussion with some of the members. Definitely still some tape out there. Bertrand.
  8. Tell me more about the 1956 session?

    Gary Thomas

    Absolutely!
  10. I would love to see his dissertation! Bertrand.
  11. Wasn't he an attorney? Bertrand.
  12. How about reissuing some Argo stuff?
  13. Go see him at Ronnie's! Too bad Bobby Hutcherson is not on the Smith CD... Bertrand.
  14. Ordered it today. From the same article: Aruan Ortiz, Rahsaan Carter and Kush Abadey were the best rhythm section Wallace Roney ever had. I loved that band. Bertrand.
  15. I was basing my comment on the photo, which shows the lineup for the first album. Only three remain from the photo: Jorma, Jack and Marty. Of the classic lineup, four remain, the above three and Grace. That is probably what Jorma meant. If you go by the first band that never recorded, there are still four. I believe Bob Harvey and Jerry Peloquin are still around, definitely the latter since I spoke to him on Facebook. I can't imagine the Airplane without Jack. No recordings of the original band have ever surfaced, right? Bertrand.
  16. Isn't it three? Skip Spence died a long time ago. Bertrand.
  17. Overall. Both albums are complete, they did not have to leave a track off, correct?
  18. I do plan on picking it up, but I am looking for any recordings Grachan takes extensive solos on. I may have all of those. Bertrand.
  19. I am thinking of the Shepp. How prominent is Grachan Moncur III on Things Have Got To Change? Thanks, Bertrand.
  20. Thanks for watching! Please share as much as possible. Michael Kramer put in hours of work to put this together. Bertrand.
  21. You should have questioned my info, I was just kidding about texting Wayne If he knew this existed, he would have a cow. I am glad you ordered it, if only to tell me the sound quality is acceptable enough for me to order it was well. Here is what needs to be issued legally with all permissions etc: the 9/3/71 Berlin radio broadcast. A whole side of Weather Report most people don't know, including some octet charts and a version of 'Moto Grosso Feio'. AMAZING concert. Bertrand.
  22. Well, I pulled the plug on my credit card which was on life support :)
  23. OK, just pulled the plug. What made up my mind were the following comments from Jim Sangrey: Wayne didn't bring a knife to a gunfight, he brought a freakin' atomicbeamlaserbomb. Wayne might prefer to be all Zen-y peaceful and shit, but dig, the guy still came from Newark, still came up with Blakey & Miles, and I don't think that you would want to get into any kind of a showdown with Wayne Shorter, even today. Bertrand. I texted Wayne and he texted me back. Everyone involved including the estates etc. have signed off on this so it is all legit. Bertrand.
  24. Complicated! Are the ones from Schizoid shop only available that way, or maybe also on Amazon etc.? So I need to identify the ones I might want, see if they are on CD, and if not get the download. The DGM site gives sound quality ratings, so that is nice. Again, just trying to get a few, maybe one from the original band, one from 1973 and one from 1974. Not sure about the 1972 band. Bertrand.
  25. So the DGM material are downloads. But some of these are also on CD, right, or all those CDs out of print? I want to get a few KC live shows, but not go totally nuts. I am trying to figure out the best route to go. I definitely want to get the 69 Hyde Park show. Is a download from DGM the only way to get this? Thanks, Bertrand.
