  1. "Watching and Waiting" is one of their best songs. Guy The more I listen to that song, the more I agree.
  2. Okay, finally hit on one I enjoy: To Our Children's Children's Children Some pretty songs, a couple decent rockers, and an absolute winner in "Sun is Still Shining." Plus, to my knowledge, none of these songs have been destroyed by classic-rock radio. This album best captures the spirit of the Moodies better than their other classic albums, IMHO.
  3. Can you imagine the riot in Detroit right now had another team made the wild card? What a colossal choke to end the season: getting swept by the lowly Royals! And then, to top it off, coming in second after leading the division all season! Hard to call a playoff team a disappointment, but man, what a way to end the season!
  4. What Alex said. Sheesh, first Elizabeth Berkley in SHOWGIRLS, now this..... what is this world coming to? Although, come to think of it, with a name like Dustin Diamond, it's amazing we didn't see this.... er, coming.
  5. ROAD TRIP!!!!!
  6. Well, it looks like they're gonna get in on the basis of Houston's loss only, as they're still being shut out in the 9th. They should be out by the first round.
  7. Finally, Al! Hopy you'll enjoy it! Well, it was your BFT that made me wanna get it!
  8. Just got back from the big Half-Price Books on Northwest Highway, and if I wanna stay within striking distance of financial solvency, I will never go in there again! It's just too damn dangerous, 'specially since I got that blasted rekkid player! Tonight's haul: Kenny Burrell: All Day Long and All Night Long (Prestige 2-fer) Hubert Laws: Morning Star Charles Lloyd: Of Course, Of Course (MONO baby!!!) Fats Waller: Complete Volume 1, 1934-35 A Bill Cosby record And this was AFTER I had put back the following: Some Milestone Ben Webster two-fer of recordings he did overseas in '69 The infamous "Marquis de Sade" LP by Lalo Schifrin which I was gonna try & eBay Jackie McLean's HIPNOSIS Horace Parlan/Booker Ervin BACK FROM THE GIG And that's not even to mention the Jackie McLean Steeplechases and various Blue Note LPs (re-releases from the late 60's/early 70's, based on the look of the labels, those Liberty-style labels. But still......) Naturally, a HPB Gift Certificate has shot to the top of my Christmas Wish List!
  9. Which they don't, at least not the most recent ones. Hope the sale doesn't end before they get them back in stock!
  10. You know it! I just figured this would be a good jumping-off point to celebrate any favorite recordings from that era.
  11. Found this CD by Ned Otter called SO LITTLE TIME at the library and discovered Billy Higgins is playing on this. Man, he never slowed down, did he? You'd never know he was about to pass away shortly after this was recorded (RIP). Which got me to thinking: all the Higgins I have is mostly on Blue Notes from the 60's, various Morgan, Mobley, & McLean dates. If he was this good shortly before he died, he must've been just as fantastic in the intervening years, none of which I've heard. So, any discussion/recommendations will be heartily appreciated!
  12. Me too. Hey, you never know.....
  13. You found jazz SACDs at Borders???? Where is this Borders? I'd like to take a picture of it and show it to the Borders stores down here!
  14. Any month's a good month to talk about Hank!!!
  15. I dig San Fransisco Suite the most, even moreso than his wonderful Blue Note dates! Lovely playing there.
  16. And it just keeps getting better!!!
  17. GO ASTROS!!! Wouldn't it be something if last year's World Series loser made it to the playoffs, while last year's World Series champs didn't? At least there's a chance of a Texas team in the playoffs. Unlike a certain other unnamed team from Texas......
  18. Listening to the Hill clips as well. Wow..... such beauty... stark beauty.... probably gonna get this as well. Gotta find stuff to sell around here.....
  19. Cheery.
  20. I should think this discography would answer your question.
  21. Bot Bot - Paul Quinichette
  22. Pity they didn't use a picture of Boris Badenov on the cover.
  23. No kidding. Not only that, for the first time since the RVG program started, Borders hasn't gotten any of the last batch (Happenings, Demon's Dance, etc.)
  24. Any other Metroplexers know when any record conventions are coming to town? I suppose I could drive to Austin for that one, but I could've sworn there used to be one in Richardson. Any thoughts?
  25. That'd be a good one to use on the new Trane box!
