  1. Yeah, I just looked at the post count itself. I didn't actually read the thing. If you wanna see how it sustains itself, just read the last page. Keep a barf bag handy, though.
  2. Over 1700 posts and still going strong. Unbelievable.
  3. That JC thread is still going?????
  4. I think JUDGEMENT is akin to listening to a John Coltrane album with Trane on vibes as opposed to tenor sax. It's that good! Probably my favorite Hill disc. And yes, GRASS ROOTS is so baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!!!
  5. Agree totally, but also get DANCE WITH DEATH. For me, that one is his most accessible.
  6. Thanks Lon! I'm entered!
  7. Could I have a link to the discography, where to buy, all that stuff?
  8. All three of those Tony Williams clips convince me that I want to get this Select!
  9. Wow! That's quite a lineup! But..... no "Come Together"?????
  10. Yes, thanks for sharing! Some of those pictures look timeless, like they could've been taken yesterday.
  11. Pretty sure it is.
  12. "Only a Northern Song" and "It's All Too Much" are two of my favorite George Harrison songs. Also "If I Needed Someone."

    Billy Joel

Absolutely (and ESPECIALLY number five); haven't heard them having heard OF them; nope, puts me to sleep even faster than Love; not a Dead fan; and haven't a clue. Not a Pavement fan either, although I'm sure I jizzed about their first album at some point in my existence, going through some kind of probably-no-very-likely-SY-inspired pseudo-fuzz fest at the time. Learned my lesson there. But back to BJ..... on second thought, no. Joe G had it right on in his assessment of "You May Be Right," although I have to confess to being a fan when I was in high school and thinking "It's Still Rock & Roll to Me" was really COOL! You think I'm clueless now, you shoulda seen me back when I REALLY didn't know any better.
  14. According to NPR, Stanley is a "cultural critic." This is a relief to us jazz fans who've waited for him to move on to a subject even more foreign to him than jazz.

    Billy Joel

Listening to a Billy Joel record, for me, is akin to reading a Berke Breathed comic strip. I'm not even sure they're not the same person, when it comes right down to it. Who the hell is Slint, Spoon, David Pajo, Tortoise???? Why the hell should I care? I mean if it's just because I really really REALLY dig Rather Ripped, well..... thanks for the recs, but I've got about 1,265,978 recordings I wanna hear first before I buy something simply because you don't like it. Which isn't to say the idea doesn't intrigue me. Aaaaaand... I'm sure this'll surprise Clem to no end..... Love is my personal cure for insomnia. Ah well, not like we ever agreed on anything anyway, and everybody needs their own personal online abuser, so there you go. Be it known, however, that St. Ann Richards is the only Democrat I ever voted for (as opposed to voting Democrat just to displace a hated Republican..... wait, she was running against Clayton Williams! Does that still count?). Anyway, I believe I voted for her against Dubya, but then the same principal applies, so what the hell? God bless ya, Clem, for adding an otherwise bizarre dimension to this boring, intellectual white man's life. (Don't laugh, y'all; he really called me that!)
  16. I assume this means recordings of John Coltrane with Red Garland, and vice versa? I hope?
  17. I’ve been re-listening to them lately cuz my dad asked me to burn his Moodies LPs to CD. I’ve tried every now and then to get into them, but they just bore me. Maybe one or two good songs here and there, but overall there’s no excitement in listening to them.
  18. As a 36-year-old who is eagerly awaiting the day that I gratuate from "geezerhood" to being called an "old coot," I can assure you I meant no disrespect to the aged on this board.
  19. Hey, as long as Bill Gates is using them as his personal R&D lab, they're never going out of business. These kind of arguments always remind me of that scene from Pirates of the Silicon Valley, where Steve Jobs tells Bill Gates, "Yeah, well, we're better than you," to which Bill Gates replies, "So what?"
  20. Yes. Both discs have this lineup: Vince Guaraldi - piano Eddie Duran - guitar Dean Reilly - bass Sent pm to Big Al. PM replied!

  22. If you need some local storage for your vinyl, I know a garage right here that will gladly house them for you!
  23. Listening to another Mobley coulda-been: THIRD SEASON and A SLICE OF THE TOP. Both have Lee Morgan, James Spaulding, and Billy Higgins; and the style of the two sessions is quite similar.
