  1. Well, the guy who gave me the headphones found out I needed an amp, so he threw in a $200 Total Bithead amp from Headroom. Not sure what I did right, but Im sure happy with life right now. Anyone want to send me some free Mosaics?
  2. A scary sight for Bulls fans! Ben at the line! I will be rooting for him all year. A great guy and a great player.
  3. Blame it on My Youth is obscenely gorgeous. The Penguin guys even give it their lofty Crown award as one of the best recordings ever.
  4. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/08/sports/b...and&emc=rss Crazy article about Lidle from last month that actually mentions Thurmon Munson. I'm frankly more than a little disgusted about some of these comments. Yes clem, there are many deaths in NYC that we will never hear about. But if I did hear about them, I certainly wouldnt be making jokes about them
  5. I just won some Beyer Dynamic DT880 over on another message board (head-fi) Some guy had reached his limit and started giving away much of his lower end gear. Well, lucky for me his low end is my world class high end. I should get these deleviered within the week. I cant wait. http://www.headphone.com/guide/by-manufact...amic-dt-880.php Any of you use a headphone amplifier? Apparently I will need one now

  10. There is absolutely no difference between Amos and Andy, minstrel shows, and 99.9% of hip-hop on MTV. Once again, the pursuit of capitalism rears its ugly head.

    Billy Joel

I love the Truckers too. Probably more than anyoneelse you have mentioned on this thread (and thats ALOT of people) You are correct that they DESTROY M. Ward. Other than that I am familiar with about 95% of the names you constantly throw out. VERY familiar with probably 50%. M. Ward isnt trying to make pseudo-blues, if you judge it on those merits, yes it will fall very short. Judge as just an album by a guy making music, and he is brilliant. Especially his latest, Post-War. Oh, and I LOVE Spoon too. And the Misfits arent even music. They are an embarrassment to mankind. I stopped being 14 when I turned 15, so I dont listen to them anymore.

    Billy Joel

I love M. Ward. I fucking hate Billy Joel. And I dig alot of Springsteen. Nebraska is one of the best albums of the 80s.
  13. Why is that not the case for Bird, or Trane, or Duke? If Ornette could play EXACTLY like Bird, there is no way he could have been original? Why does it have to be exclusive? Could Sonny play exactly like Hawk? Is he better than Ornette just because he could?
  14. Wow. What an embarrasing and unfortunate post. Is it 1958 and no one told me? While I may understand not 'getting' it, I certainly don't understand mocking it. Ornette is completely right about sound and sequences. While bebop may have been about sound for Bird and Diz, it has been process for everyone else. What Ornette says about the major and minor 7th is also correct. The bebop scale is based on that chromaticism, and learning to play bebop involves learning that scale. Ornette wanted to get away from systems of improvising and from theory to just sound. Music theory should be a response to what we hear, it shouldnt come first. Quite often for imrovising musicians, theory came first. And it happened to Trane up until Giant Steps. He then realized that advanced harmony was not music, SOUND was music.
  15. The Detroit Tigers are now officially in the playoffs. Man did I pick the wrong year to move out of the state.
  16. Frankly I'm a bit shocked and amazed at the anti-Colbert sentiment by some of you. Dennis Miller with one ball missing? Wouldn't Dennis Miller actually need some balls in the first place for that to occur? Sometimes Colbert goes for the easy jokes. But quite often he has the most intelligent and biting and funny satire on TV. By FAAAAAR.
  17. The problem isnt that they are wrong. The problem is they think that's a bad thing. How best to put this...Simply, for the newbie anyway, there's not a problem in their thinking. There's a problem in OUR thinking. While that was a very well written response, I should say that I was just joking.

  19. Looks like a show from "Philharmonie", Berlin, West Germany, November 5, 1971. Also looks like I am gonna buy it! Just noticed that this is also available from emusic.
  20. Finally got a hold of this. I was lucky enough to see ornette with, i think, this quartet a few years back. absolutely fantastic album and concert.
  21. Hip-hopgetball, A Jazzabration! http://blogfiles.wfmu.org/BT/colbertzorn.mpg Im glad for Zorn and Vandermark. I greatly enjoy both of their work.
  22. GO BLUE! The Wolverines thrashed the #2 Fighting Irish. Great game. That Michigan Defense is just plain nasty. Oklahoma loses a 13 point lead in the final 1:09. Not good. Great weekend of football so far, and we still have tomorrow.
  23. So after making an order on August 10, the package was finally delivered. Just not to me. FedEx shows "left at front door.' Well, it definitely is NOT on my front door. DAMNIT!

    New Ipods

if you have a 5g ipod or a nano, gapless playback is now a thing of the past! Its not really a hard thing to fix, virtually all other mp3 players have been gapless for a whil.

    New Ipods

My first ipod was a refurbished one. It works beautifully and ive never had a serious problem with it. Most info i have heard on them have been positive, sometimes even more so than regular ipods. Often any glitches the ipod might have was fixed when it was 'refurbished', so its actually less likely than new ones to have problems.
