The trades arent done on a person to person basis. You send your cd to some guy in Texas, and you might receive a cd from some guy in California. They keep it balanced, so you dont receive 100 cds and only send out 4. You have to send out to receive (+ or - 1) You just have to make sure you list enough wanted cds to get something back. Obviously if all you want is some obscure OOP disc you wont get it. My concern was that no jazz at all would be available, but its seems good so far. Their 'selection' is probably similar to yourmusic.com i would guess. Nothing groundbreaking, but basic Shorters and Herbie's and Miles' Also, it might not be a bad way to pick up crappy pop cds for the kids without spending too much.

Anyone heard of this? Its basically a site that facilitates CD trading in the U.S. When you sign up, they send you 5 post paid evnelopes to mail your cds to other members. You list what you have and what you want. If you want something someone wants to trade, they send it to you, if you have something someone wants you send it to them. Pretty nice set up, and you are charged 1 buck plus .49 cent shipping for each CD you receive. Only problem is album artwork is not required, but it seems to be pretty standard to include it. I signed up because I had a few random cds i didnt want and i figured what the hell. My only concern was the possibility of not recieving any jazz cds. Well, in a couple days I have Blakey's Moanin, Movin Wes, and Hancock's Inventions and Dimensions on its way. Its probably a good way to get rid of your latest upgrade casualities (I have a stack of old Dylan's to get rid of.) They also claim to give "up to $.20 per cd to the artists." Not sure how thats done though. p.s. One caveat, right now you can only tell them you are 'interested' in joining, they will send you an invite to join within a couple days.

At least Wynton will finally have the 'only jazz composer to win a Pulitzer' removed from his name anytime he is mentioned in the press.

Race and Racial Interaction, in America and beyond

I will say one thing, Crash winning an Oscar does not bode well for race in America. -
I concur with both of those statements.

political correctness carried too far?
md655321 replied to slide_advantage_redoux's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Whoa, don't spaz out! I think anti-PC sentiment has run amok way more than political correctness has. -
Like many others, I knew quite soon about the girl I will marry. She was dating another guy when we met, but she was unhappy and eventually dumped him partly for me. We had been working together and got to know each other better over a few months, and started dating a few days after her breakup. The first date was great, and I couldn't conceive of any possible problems that could arise. Well over six years later there hasnt been any, which is pretty good considering we were both rather unexperienced teenagers when we started dating. As for the single guys, I think you are taking the wise route. I know too many people who were in relationships that existed out of inertia and even after a year or so the guy or girl wasnt quite sure about the relationship. However, virtually every happy relationship I have seen the people in it were VERY sure, VERY soon, as this thread indicates.

Chauncey is number one for me, but im biased. Otherwise it is Kobe or Bron. Lakers would win about 7 games without Kobe thus year, and the Cavs would be just AWFUL without Bron. Until Nash plays defense he shouldnt even be allowed on peoples ballots. Tony Parker? Are you people serious? You replace him with any decent pg in the league (say jason terry) and Spurs are in the exact same place as they are with parker. Duncan is still number 1, 2, 3, and 4 and that team. Here's a great article from Bill Simmons about the race: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=simmons/060414

Darko and the boys take out San Antonio tonight. Quite a crazy streak they have going. If they can get Fran Vasquez (lottery pick from last season) to come over, trade Grant Hill (expiring contract) and get a nice pick the Magic would be a damn near top 5 team in the east. Milicic is provin the haters wrong.

I havent really been paying much attention Hopefully Orlando will go back to sucking next season, because the Pistons get their pick. Once Darko is starting, that team will be crazy good.

what the f*ck happened to popular black music?
md655321 replied to slide_advantage_redoux's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I doubt very much that most commerical rappers would disagree with you on this point. Yet another example of how capitalism is the true source of moral ills in our society. Booker T Washington was a capitalist. MG Ok. -

1. There aren't any black people at jams shows. (well, maybe at a ratio of 10,000 to 1) 2. Look at albums sales. I would LOVE to believe that jam music is approaching mainstream, but its simply now where near being true. Take the biggest non-Dead jam band in the world, Phish. 50 Cent's last album sold more than their entire catalog. Jam is for white college kids, usually rich white college kids. 1. Whose fault is that? It's certainly not the fault of the jam bands in question. Check out the Disco Biscuits and get back to me. 2. Look at concert revenues. Phish played a show to 600,000 people with no one else on the bill. Insofar as the "jam is for white college kids..." bit, that's the most ethnocentric crap I've heard in a long time. I will do my best not to offend and just cut myself off right here... 1. Im not saying its anyones fault. Just pointing it out. And what the hell do the Dico Biscuits have to do with changing this fact? 2a. Phish never played for 600,000. Most they ever did was about 90k for Big Cypress for 99. Take concert revenues and cd revenues and add them up. Rap DWARFS jam music. Its not even debateable. 2. Jam is for white college kids. Ive seen Phish, ive been to every Bonnaroo, ive seen Robert Randolph, Karl Denson, moe, MMW, Umphreys, Mule and the like dozens of times. You know who is at the shows? White college kids. If me saying that is the most ethnocentric thing you have ever heard, you have never had an American History class. -
Ill throw in the now ubiquitous Andrew hill - Dusk rec. Fantastic album. I also LOVE Fred Hersh - +2 and Marty Ehrlich - Line on Love. Palmetto is for 3 for 3 with me for having some of the best jazz records in recent memory.

Looks like the Pistons and the Tigers might bring home a championship in 06! 5-0, Chris Shelton for MVP!
-
No way anyone beats the Pistons in the playoffs. Good game tonight, Shaq and Dwade both play great, but that dont mean nothin. Tayshaun is playing great lately. Darko vs D-town tonight. Here is what Sheed has to say about that:
-
Ahh New Jersey, nothing like fighting hard for which postition you will lose in in the playoffs. good luck! althoguh it would be nice if they miracualously could beat miami in the 2nd round, detroit could use another cream puff on their way to championship number 3.
-
Sheed was suspended for his 16th tech. New rule this year, suspended for 16th, 18th, 20th, 22nd etc... Luckily its reset in playoffs. Then its like 4 or 5 Ts before suspension. Its a bummer that the first team with a chance to have the same starting lineup for an entire season loses it because the refs hate Sheed. (albeit with fairly good reasons)

Hopefully with yesterday's game Chauncey Billups can gain some ground on the MVP race. He is just unbelievable. He just sets everyone up all game long, and then just takes over if he needs too. And does it so calmly. I particularly enjoyed that 3 pointed from about 6-10 feet behind the line.

I picked this one up at a Border's Outlet a few years ago for 3.99. Definitely well worth the price! Alot of the articles seem a little conservative for my taste, with most articles dealing with free jazz or electric jazz doing so derisively. Other than that, some beautiful stuff, especially the Braxton interview and the bill Evans piece.
