I would not call Ted Gioia's book stodgy, if you are referring to his "West Coast Jazz" classic. IMHO this is the best book written on the subject. I have re-read it several times and refer to it frequently.
Another TV show "Frankly Jazz".
The "Stars of Jazz" TV series was documented in an excellent book by James A. Harrod. There were 130 broadcasts. Extracts from many shows were released on 36 Calliope label LPs.
I have a very interesting Pacific Jazz sampler CD. It contains one song from each of the 12 Pacific Jazz West Coast Classics LPs that were re-issued as CDs in 1998. This CD was issued for promotional uses only and not for sale. The catalog number is DPRO 7087 6 10171 2 0.
I also have a CDR of the Pacific Jazz "Assorted Flavors" sampler LP.
A Columbia/Sony Brubeck CD set would be very desirable if it contained the two previously unissued CDs of LPs- "The Last Time We Saw Paris" and "Compadres".
Stephen- first time I have heard about the extra tracks. As you know I am a Transition label collector and would really like to get them.
Dan.

My mistake- was aware awhile back.
I have the Costa "House of Blue Lights" Japanese CD UCCU-5109. Earlier posts have noted UCCU-6158. I wonder why there are two versions. The CD covers are the same. My CD is absolutely terrific both musically and graphically.
This session was released on LP for RSD. The CD is now listed on Amazon. Both appear on eBay. Both the LP and CD have six tracks. There is a seventh track originally recorded on tape at the 1967 session that is not included on all subsequent issues. The title is "Let My People Relieve" and features Eugene Wright.
