  1. Reissuing music takes time. I'm sure Chuck can attest to this fact. In a February radio interview, Gianni Morelenbaum Gualberto said they were hoping that the first Horo reissues would be available in late May or June.
  2. That's why people call us "jazz snobs."
  3. of course, it's a baritone saxomaphone!
  4. Actress Lynn Redgrave has died at age 67 By MICHAEL KUCHWARA and HILLEL ITALIE (AP) NEW YORK — Lynn Redgrave, an introspective and independent player in her family's acting dynasty who became a 1960s sensation as the unconventional title character of "Georgy Girl" and later dramatized her troubled past in such one-woman stage performances as "Shakespeare for My Father" and "Nightingale," has died. She was 67. Her publicist Rick Miramontez, speaking on behalf of her children, said Redgrave died peacefully Sunday night at her home in Kent, Conn. Children Ben, Pema and Annabel were with her, as were close friends. "Our beloved mother Lynn Rachel passed away peacefully after a seven year journey with breast cancer," Redgrave's children said in a statement Monday. "She lived, loved and worked harder than ever before. The endless memories she created as a mother, grandmother, writer, actor and friend will sustain us for the rest of our lives. Our entire family asks for privacy through this difficult time." AP story
  5. Complete album - one credit. Herb Robertson's Elaboration
  6. First choice: Café Bustelo Instant Espresso Second choice: Nescafe's Taster's Choice Gourmet Roast
  7. I really enjoyed seeing Ellis perform with the Great Guitars while I attended Berklee in the 70s. Unlike most of the "guitar heroes" of the time, Herb and his compatriots never overplayed. They performed with skill, wit, and humor. RIP Herb.
  8. Your point is well taken, Dan. But remember, this person recently lost her father, and "getting the most money you can" might not be a priority for her. In fact, a long, involved process of selling individual items could be stressful or even hurtful in her present state. Why don't we just honor Elissa's request rather than debate what we would do if we were in possession of the collection?.

  10. It's been said many times before that a musician "sold his soul" to become popular and wealthy. This picture, I believe, provides irrefutable evidence that a deal with Beelzebub was made.
  11. This is the perfect duo. With Haden's hearing loss, Jarrett's whining/squeaking might be tolerable. But for the rest of us....
  12. Seeing Ms. Bridgewater twice in concert leads me to conclude that she doesn't need anybody's help in overacting. She's often "over the top" and seems quite full of herself. In her tribute to Betty Carter, she spent as much time talking about how close they were and how special was their relationship, than she did singing. If I want to hear a "Dee" sing, it will be Dee Alexander, imo a much more talented and humble artist.
  13. That's one of the saddest things I've ever read on this board.
  14. ...Two major jazz figures I interviewed for my book.......Stanley Crouch
  15. Heard about this Japanese Jazz Opera video on the BBC tonight, so I had to do a search. I couldn't believe my eyes and ears! Warning: do not attempt to watch this video while drinking milk! High-velocity nasal discharge may result! Japanese Jazz Opera
  16. Not sure what your point is, since the original was a fluffy, star-studded, piece of crap as well.
  17. minguslover, Is it a coincidence that you live just a few miles from where jazzloft is located, or do you work there? Many of us are already jazzloft customers, so any deception is both unnecessary and disingenuous, imo. Also, your claim that "they've never had a sale on the full-priced CDs" is false. I purchased several of these titles during a previous sale.
  18. I knew I'd find you here!
  19. That wasn't the Who. There hasn't been a "Who" since Keith Moon left us. Now that was a band!
  20. Scene: Rocky, Bullwinkle, Boris & Natasha are on the deck of a ship sailing in rough waters. Announcer: "Suddenly the ship listed to port!" Boris: "It's better than Muskatel." Count me as another big fan of the show. Imagine my surprise and joy some 20 years later when I dated a Russian woman named...yep, you guessed it.
  21. Didn't watch the awards show (haven't since I was a kid). My thought was, "Well, at least this gives Sangrey another opportunity to worship Beyonce's ass."
  22. I'm beginning to fear bebopbob may have been the victim of foul play.
  23. Of course America fucks jazz. Where do you think new jazz musicians come from? The real problem is that America doesn't call jazz afterward.
  24. Yes, there's a federal mandate stating that you cannot be refused care in an E.R., but that doesn't mean it's free. Jim would be billed in this situation, and he would have to provide financial records (tax records, bank account balances, etc.) to get his bill reduced. Of course, the most important thing here is that Jim's health has improved. Kudos to you for doing whatever you could to remedy your situation.
