  1. Fully agreed, but nowadays I prefer the box set version without the nasty edits.
  2. Very interesting choices - thanks for your love and work you put into this. I will listen again with this list handy.

    Sivuca

Both Hermeto and Sivuca are albinos and once even had a band together - they called it White Heat!
  4. Patterson made only four albums as a leader for Muse, 0plus one as a sideman (John Simon).
  5. ... plus some tracks for an album that was never finished after they returned from a European tour without Annie Ross.
  6. Such a great album.

    BFT216

Joining in again - since I listen to BFTs onnly on my desktop computer it depends on when I do sit before it and have the time without getting distracted. I did not lokk at any comments. Track 5 - Nice theme, sounds like some 1970's black group. I like the trombonist, but cannot follw the logic of the saxist or drummer, they seem to play phrases just as they come into their minds without much sense of form. Track 6 - Very interesting track.. I want to know who this is. Never like the bass direct sound, but they listen to each other and know what they wanna say. Track 7 - I should know that guitsr player. Drummer sounds like he's not totally at ease with that groove - there are more elegant and varied ways to play that rhythm. His snare sound is obtrusive, and he drags a bit. But he tries hard to give his best. Guitarist is more assured rhythmically, Now here's your impression of big city life! Would like to hear other tracks of this band. Track 9 - Arthur Blythe? Alto sax has theat preaching sound. Tuba! That should be a Blythe band. Okay, the gospel melody implied is stated by the vocalist. This has a story to tell. That's convincing! I hear you, brother! That's a band I'd take my wife to hear. My favourite so far. Yeah! Track 10 - Theme has an almost South African feel. No idea who this is. Makes me ciurious. Except for track 1 and perhaps 4, all was new to me - thanks for compiling! Now off to the others' guesses. same here
  9. That*s a nice album with some very pretty tracks along some down home funky music. I love the opener "Happy as a fat rat in a cheese factory".
  10. There are many other professions occupied by chronic drug users. In Germany it seems that most bricklayers cannot build in a straight line without their daily dose of beer. I have played with several guys who were not able to relax and play with some confidence without at least a bottle of beer. Remember the many accounts of bottles passed around for recordings sessions. A friend reported of a drummer giving a clinic in his store after downing a bottle of rum! In the long run, definitely. Charlie Parker was reported to have said "I never play better than when I am stone sober".
  11. This reminds me of a sentence my first conga drum teacher, Tom Nicholas, said: once a record is out, you gotta live with that thing. So true.
  12. Next best thing to having been in the studio when it was recorded, I suppose.
  13. It's not Hampton Hawes' best playing, as we was pretty much strung out and Mingus gave him a break, but it's interesting to have a documents of a whole session. I'd like to hear all tracks in session order.
  14. Correct. They are a French enterprise, searching broadcast station vaults for unreleased tapes. https://en.thelostrecordings.store
  15. These guys swing! terrific sound.
