  1. This morning in the car:
  2. Thanks for accepting my conclusions on the Jon Hendricks session with Wes and Pony Poindexter - just correct my last name to Weil (I'm not related to composer Kurt Weill).
  3. One more this afternoon:
  4. Just ordered a copy from amazon.de - would have been more expensive with shipping to Germany. Looks very insteresting, thanks for mentioning this.
  5. ... and a rare case of baroque opera not taking itself too seriously. Many seem to think that everything had to be as restrained a schurch music, where musical humor was much more important. Now playing:
  6. 17th century opera sunday:
  7. R.I.P. His playing was so clear and structured that I transcribed some of his solos for my conga students to show them how to build a solo. My personal favourite are his exchanges with Kenny Clarke on Kenny Burrell's first Blue Note LP. Gracias, Maestro!
  8. Just received my reference copy of the second edition of S. Duncan Reid's Cal Tjader biography: https://mcfarlandbooks.com/product/cal-tjader2/ More detailed than the first edition. Support the author and get a copy!
  9. That's a good one!
  10. ??? Pic doesn't show ...
  11. Now that's a fun one!
  12. This weekend's evening bottle - 2019 Riesling vom Löss, trocken, Lorcher Kapellenberg. I'm not a Riesling fan, but this one tastes nice. A gift from a friend whom I supply with my CD doubles.
  13. The Lord Disco has no personnel. I'm afraid there was none listed on the original cover, although I can't find a pic of that issue. It could be it was a compilation of tracks issued on singles and EPs, like this one: Two of these tracks were on a 45 with Jimmy Walter's Orchestra: https://www.discogs.com/Harold-Nicholas-Accompanied-By-Jimmy-Walter-Et-Son-Orchestre-St-Louis-Blues-That-Old-Black-Magic/release/15407452
  14. Some of John Klemmer's ABC and Elektra albums? Smooth with intensity.
  15. Excellent recording, great performance concept, very good booklet notes. The best recording of these pieces so far.
  16. New arrival today. A highly individual sounding original 17th century Italian harpsichor.
