  1. Right now I'm up to letter "T". Sometimes the same issue is listed in different form under different sessions, some letter prefix is missing, or the like - this causes the problems you mentioned. Or the reissue is listed only below the last of several sessions. All this shows it is not really an interrelational database like BRIAN, but still based on printed layouts like former discographies. Another problem is that different spellings of musicians' names or nicknames are not merged. His software does not allow to attribute more than one musicians as a session's leader, which caused problems when you look up just the leader sessions and the item you are looking for is filed under the other leader (e.g. Wes Montgomery's one live session for Verve, filed under Wynton Kelly). As long as he has the tracks listed but not the specific issue you have, you can enter it in the fields on the left in the "add" window - when you want to add more tracks from other sessions all you have to enter is the label and number and it will add the release title by itself. But if he does not have the tracks themselves, you have lost. I wonder where he gathers his information. BRIAN based discographies are much more accurate, but considering the sheer number of releases such a general discography has to cover, one must live with these flaws.
  2. Sad news ... saw him perform with Miroslav Vitous' Quartet in Frankfurt many years ago, and liked how he really leaned into the music with a lot of energy and dedication, still leaving plenty of space. Great. Will have to play the LP later on. Another great one gone ... R.I.P.
  3. David Lopato
  4. Does anybody here use Tom Lord's Jazz Discography Online as a database for their own collection? If so, what's your experience?
  5. Yesterday it was single discs from the Beiderbecke/Trumbauer/Teagarden, Lionel Hampton Victor, and H.R.S. Sessions boxes.
  6. I hate to mention it, but Lester Young didn't sound very coherent on his last studio sessions. There have been a number of musicians having to re-learn playing after a stroke or other conditions, besides Oscar Peterson and Pat Martino, pianist Jack Wilson comes to mind.
  7. No fingerprints on disc 2 of my copy, either.
  8. I have the first edition, with exactly this sequence and these master numbers. As for false starts and incomplete takes, I have never seen any of them listed in the Prestige disco, only rejected or unissued takes. To me it looks like masters numbers were attributed only to complete, accepted takes in the Prestige files.
  9. They're announcing the same in Germany, but Prime Day means the deals are only for prime customers ...
  10. Bob Whitlock's passing made me pull the Mulligan-Baker Mosaic - those LPs are plain flat and noise-free.
  11. R.I.P. This kind of news rarely inspires me to have a listen, but in this case I pulled out the Mulligan-Baker Mosaic. The right man at the right place at the right time, for sure.
  12. Peter Schmidlin sadly passed on May 25, 2015 - obituary (in German language). No information on the label's fate ... The most recent news page on the TCB site is from March and states: Due to some health issues I had to reduce my activities for TCB but now I can present to you the latest new release below
  13. Bought Focal Spirit Classic headphones earlier this year, like 'em very much.
  14. Doesn't sound like Auld to these ears. I will listen more closely as soon as the copy Ijust ordered has arrived.
  15. But Anything Goes seems to be one of the Brubeck LPs Columbia did not reissue on CD. Or am I mistaken?
  16. It's all a matter of taste, I suppose - I saw Henderson perform several times during his "European touring years", and always found his solos a bit long - that's why liked the more concise approach on those Blue Note sessions. Maybe the producer asked him to keep it compact for the CD release.
  17. The only Brubeck/Desmond version of this tune with Wright and Morello I can find in Lord is from the December 1965 to February 1966 recorded LP Anything Goes ! - Dave Brubeck Plays Cole Porter.
  18. IMO this one and the later Blue Note Village Vanguard Twofer are his best live recordings.
  19. That's what I wanted to ask, too ...
  20. Jean Warland's autobiography:
  21. Belgian bass player Jean Warland, born October 23, 1926, died June 17, 2015, he was one of the greatest and most respected European bass players. Most board members will know him from his recordings with the Kenny Clarke - Francy Boland Big Band. Biography from Jazz in Belgium
  22. That's a tasty brand, I love it, too, and my wife - we recently decided to always have some bottles in store. Next after supper, a glass of this:
  23. amazon.com has a September 18, 2015 release date ...
  24. Same here. It was very evident when Georgie Fame directed his band, who is a much better singer. That said, some of his tunes are classic, Moon Dance in particular.
