  1. Same here.
  2. The trumpet player on this CD is uncredited - Randy Brecker? It features Mike Longo, Joe Farrell, Ron Carter, Mickey Roker, and Ralph MacDonald - but who's on trumpet?
  3. She's a winner! Besides that, she looks like German actress Lilo Pulver!
  4. I trust there will be some brand of car CD player for some time to come. OTOH some models are offered so cheap at the moment that it would be possible to buy one or two as replacement and store them.
  5. Ahamd Jamal's latest features Reginal Veal, Herlin Riley, and Manolo Bradrena - almost the band of his legendary comeback album on Atlantic, Rossiter Road. I have to admit I find it a bit lame compared to the earlier album, the grooves a bit too heavy-handed, and Jamal's playing seems to have lost one of its outstanding characteristics, rhythmic accuracy. The ideas are all there, but he sounds as if his age is finally showing - I won't blame him, and have lots of respect for him, but it's not quite the same ... Has anbody here heard this`What do you think?
  6. Well, at least it's modern .... furniture, that is.
  7. Yes, hit a chord or two or three and raise your glass!
  8. That's a great little album, btw ...
  9. Maybe this has been posted in this thread before ... there are two ladies on the seats ....
  10. For me it was the Modern Jazz Quartet, a Metronome EP with the four tracks from their first Prestige session, Vendome, La Ronde, Rose of the Rio Grande ... How old was I? Fourteen? Can't remember - the disc was in my brother's collection, or rather something his wife-to-be brought along, who was jobbing in a record shop at the time.
  11. Happy Birthday from the other side of the pond!
  12. Okay, so this is the one I already have - got to give it a spin these days and report.
  13. Fresh Sound just released a 3 LPs on 2 CDs package with all three of Bill Barron's Savoy albums ... click here
  14. The criterion is not the age, but how many hours it actually was in use. The cartridge itself might last for ten years or more, if you replace the stylus after a certain playing time. The user manual should give recommendations. But in many cases, replacing the complete cartridge might not be much more expensive than a replacemant stylus. I check my stylus with a small microscope, about twice a year, especially after I might have dropped the tone arm or the stylus skipped - there are small hand microscopes available, 20 x magnification is sufficient.
  15. This is a nice album - an excellent band. Roland Hanna is great, in partcicular. They should have done a proper reissue with bonus tracks ...
  16. I can't believe there's nobody on the board here with a copy of this Jazz Workshop tape ...
  17. R.I.P. - a bass player in the best sense of the word. I gew up with the Booker T. & The M.G.s records he plays on. What more can I say?
  18. Not to my knowledge. This is a fascinating topic - David Wild wrote about it many years ago in the short-lived magazine about discographical questions, disc'ribe ..... If there was a copy, there sure would be plenty of bootleg issues around, that's for sure.
  19. The late Carla White - a real jaz singer, not only because she was great at scat, but because she let all her life experience flow into her music. I miss her quite a lot ...
  20. That Lock & Griff album is very nice! Boland did know how to comp!
  21. Thanks Jim, for that Calliope blog - I always wondered about some details of the Cal Tjader appearances on that series. Your blog clears them. I suppose you have the sheets for the sessions on this too:CalliopeCAL 3011 Sessions, Live - Cal Tjader, Chico Hamilton So the dates on the Calliope LPs always are the recording dates, not those of the broadcast?
