Oh well ... whatever the case, Stratusphunk is the one tune on the album I am the most curious about. -

Who, BTW, was credited for producing J.J. ? -
I have that one - truly amazing!
-
CD - but strangely I cannot find it on amazon.com, but there are several used copies on amazon.de, but not cheap ...
-
I certainly will listen again to some tracks now - the Tchicai trio with Workman and Cyrille - a dream rhythm section - and the Horacee Arnold - I have the Tales CD reissue, but was a bit underwhelmed in spite of the all-star cast.
-
I have the Stitt, bought it for Don Patterson, of course, who was a Prestige artist at the time, but maybe he was in negotiations - shortly after that Stitt session he recorded a few tracks as a leader for Chess that are still unissued. No idea why I didn't recognize this track ...
-
Great collection - much to my surprise I find the Atlantic covers to be the most striking on a pure graphic/artistic level.

IIRC there was a very limited Japanese reissue, but I didn't succeed in getting a copy ... many moons ago, that is.
-
So that trombone player was J.J. - he sounded like a player of a generation older than his to me on this track.
-
Thanks for that interesting compilation - as I mentioned early on, I didn't recognize a single track or player. Listened through the whole things three times ... What I liked best was the 4th or so track with the soprano sax lead - a tone reminding me strongly of Steve Lacy, and the trombone ballad, which was rendered with a lot of feeling - I am most curious about whoe these players are.

Oh - was that on CD? Probably not, I'm afraid ... -
Good point - I didn't post here because of the singular .... I never could limit myself to only one favourite.

A local jazz vocals student told me she once attended a workshop by Fischer - he was rough on them as they were not up to the level he was used to from the United States. Well, he was used to work with the very best professional vocalists, and the ones he chose for his own vocal albums executed meticulously. Those Revelation LPs were imported here back then, I got only two of them as there were so many and my budget was limited. Nowadays they are very rare. As always, it is a shame a musician of his caliber was not supported by record labels except for Revelation or Discovery (whatever happened to them?) or Concord - but maybe he was tough to deal with. I hpoe the stuff available from his website will be around for some time - there are still some I want. I know Clare Fischer was not an organist, but I still love his organ playing on the Cal Tjader album Sona Libre for Verve, or on Great White Hope! - I played that to deafness back then. His harmonic and especially rhythmic understanding of Latin concepts was great. There are one or two organ quartet LPs with Gary Foster - will pull them out later today - very nice music!
-
Too bad there's no sound ...
-
Very sad news - I always loved his keyboard playing and writing. IMHO he was one of the greatest writers for woodwinds, espeacially in the lover registers. R.I.P. Mr. Fischer, and mayn thanks for the music.

Put on Long Night again this evening - very nice album, but what enchants me the most are the tracks with Coleman and Pat Patrick - great writing for three saxes. My only complaint: the two flutes on track 6 are not in tune, like they stood on each other's toes ... hard to endure.
