  1. Received the DVD today, it is marvellous - these three dancers are some bad mofos. Dancers like these are the reason I always sigh and shrug when local dance fans rave about Astaire and the like - they never saw Chuck Green or Sandman Slim or .... Anybody here know that other Nierenberg movie, About Tap?
  2. That's correct - Noal tells it this way, too.
  3. Noal Cohen compiled Frank Strozier's discography - another excellent job! Click here ...
  4. Sigh ... I gave in and ordered the J.J., Slide Hampton and Cosmic Scene singles. Shipping charges are comapratively high, that's why I avoided them so far, but I'd kick myself for missing these. Oh well .... this forum will ruin us all ...
  5. I saw George Coleman live in the early 1980's with a European rhythm section - I only remember drummer Tony Inzalaco. Tom Nicholas, my first conga drum teacher, who had been playing with Coleman's octet in Philadelphia, was sitting in - nice grrove and all.
  6. The tune "Opus Caprice" Al haig recorded for Prestige was recorded earlier by Mary Lou Williams under a different title - can't recall it right now ...
  7. If his managing was as good as his bass playing with Shearing, his clients were blessed people! R.I.P. - an important figure, for sure.
  8. There was a number of twofer CDs with a track left off for time limitation, but they never got around to release a compilation of all those missing tracks. I would have been surprised if they had done that.
  9. Good to have you back! I'll order a copy as soon I'm a little less low on cash than right now ... those samples sound fine!
  10. Still not quite done with listening through the previous one, but send me a download link in any case, please.
  11. Welcome back, and welcome newbie! Great transcription - I used to learn more from Herbie, rhythmically, than from any drummer or percussionist ....
  12. Well, it was the cover style they preferred at the time - if you look at new releases from those years ...
  13. Thanks for pointing out No Maps On My Taps - I ordered a copy ....
  14. Noal, you are a real disco king!
  15. Lewis Worrell was on a Robin Kenyatta session for Atlantic with two bass players, so maybe he had a reputation for functioning in such a context? Just my two cents ...
  16. Very generous! Didn't we have a giveaway thread at some point somewhere? I have some supspects lying around ...
  17. I've never seen that Mobley cover, or the others - nice!
  18. That's a great album, BTW!
  19. ... and there is his piano duet LP with Bill Evans!
  20. No surprise, this audience does not include the collectors type like you find in jazz audiences. He's the best of all German politically inclined songwriter-singers, IMHO, a very nice and interesting person that has lived through quite a bit of life, but his fans probably buy all of his albums as soon as they come out. His latest includes a hilarious song about our current chancellor, Miss Merkel, that had me breaking up when I first heard it on the radio; I bought this for my wife as a Christmas gift, and we both spent the evening listening and ROTFL ... Wecker plays nice piano, btw, and once did a tour with Wolfgang Dauner and Charlie Mariano in the band.
