  1. Where have you been hidin'? We were wonderin' ..... I also knew Gardner only from the date with Fathead. Will have to give this a spin tomorrow evening ...
  2. Nina Simone Sings The Blues gives me the chills every time I listen to it - the only oen of her albums I would grab in case of fire.
  3. Great! And, BTW, I finally did get to see them girls ...
  4. Those ads won't load and slow down the forums on Firefox. When I'm using Opera, no problem.
  5. I wish I had - only some excerpts so far, which were pretty good. Would be a great choice for a Mosaic Select.
  6. Happy B-Day - how are you doing?
  7. Count me in for a copy of the upcoming project. I will order the other one as soon as our finances have recovered from the flat tires ...
  8. If it helps financing the forum, why not. I never look at ads, anyway, just wondered why they suddenly turned up. Seems you get some in your native language, too ... half of those I see are from German companies. But I already have those real books. So why don't I see some of these chicks?!
  9. I think Billy Mitchell and Thad Jones were a great combination! I love all their recordings together.
  10. Sorry to hear this ... and I thought I was hit bad when I started the new year with a flat tire when returning to the car after New Year's eve party. Had caught a nail on the way into town ... As I would have needed replacement anyway at the beginning of next season, it was two new tires on the back wheels. I had the two on the front axis replaced three months ago, and lost one of these a month later when I damaged the side on some iron post. So I had five new tires in three months for a total of € 400 ... they gave me rebate on the last two ... but that's peanuts compared to a new furnace. Hope it lasts a while.
  11. I love that kind of stuff. I can't tell what it is due to lack of technical knowledge, but these analog synthesizers have a sound quality different from the digital things with presets ... more, please!
  12. Jeez, only 60 years of age ... I think I saw him once with Frederic Rabold, but I'm not sure. Holger, do you know what caused his death?
  13. Just for the covers? Those boxes do include the edited versions originally issued ... Live/Evil is kind of superfluous, especially as the music flows more naturally without some bad edits.
  14. I know these - but others say he was the best soloist and split because he himself thought he didn't fit in! Anyway, would be thrilling to hear.
  15. I'd love to hear Coltrane's quintet with Dolphy and Wes Montgomery! Next is Lacy with Monk, and the McCoy Tyner group with Bennie Maupin (shortly before they recorded Sahara.
  16. They're all available from popmarket.com, but I find better prices at other German mailorder shops - none of them offers the Dexter set, which is strange ... maybe it's just too recent.
  17. One unforgettable aspect of the gig I witnessed was the opening - it was a 11.00 am open air concert on a Sunday morning, a cloudy sky over the patio of Frankfurt history museum, and Dexter walked on stange with a hangover, it seemed, started talking rather slowly, made remarks that it was quite unusual to play some "mid-day be-bop", and when he finally counted the band off, the sun broke through the clouds, lighting the band at the exact moment they hit the first chord of Moment's Notice - quite a magical moment, sending a silent collective "aahh!" through the crowd ...
  18. Thanks for pointing me to this - but it's popmarket.com, I found out.
  19. I tend to agree with Jim - although Homecoming was the breakthrough album, he wasn't much above an average good tenor player on this one. On Manhattan Symphonie, however, he was destined to make a classic. Sophisticated Giant is not so far behind, IMO. I saw the quartet with Cables (or rather Kirk Lightsey, IIRC), Rufus Reid, and Eddie Gladden live, and they were great!
  20. Una mas ...
  21. Is this already available in Germany? Can't find at the sites of the usual suspects ...
  22. Hmmm .... Monk, Pres, John Lewis & the MJQ, and ..... Cal Tjader.
  23. Same here. Some nice stuff, but nothing I can identify, I'm afraid ...
