  1. Do I see a moustache there?
  2. There was some confusion about the song title of that track - it is explained in Noal Cohen's disco linked above.
  3. I have this double LP, nice garage rock comp, actually prefer it to the original Nuggets. Has my boys from Winnepeg doing "Shakin' All Over" among other treasures. Cover doewn't reaaly fir it; should be something more suburban and downscale. Visit the model today... Who is she? Looks a bit like Monique Gabrielle early in her career.
  4. Of course not.
  5. The Verve. Perhaps pure nostalgia - I got to know her with the music from the very first session in that set, and I still love it!
  6. No problem finding the hat here:
  7. Didn't notice this thread the first time around - I still have some problems with dry flakey skin and itching on my scalp, but never related it to food dye, as I buy mostly organically grown food - but I still could reduce some of the sweets . I will try this. I managed to cure my scalp problems by avoiding soap and shampoos and substituted them with rhassoul - there are other distributors, I suppose, just linked the first one I found. It's a brand of clay traditionally used for skin and hair care in Morocco - your skin will feel like silk afterwards. But you have to prepare it immediately before use - it loses it's capacity for absorption pretty fast after contact with water. Ready for use brands in tubes have to add essential oils for conservation, which might irritate the skin. Might look unusual at first, but it works just fine for body care.
  8. Ordered Ron Carter's All Blues yesterday - I'm curious about the sound, in particular, although there certainly will be an improvement over my scratchy second generation LP pressing. Musically, it is the best of Carter's CTI albums, IMHO. What I'd like to see is a double with all of the New York Jazz Quartet recordings (there was a second concert released only in Japan), as these are superb. That was Ron Carter and Ben Riley along with Frank Wess and Roland Hanna, BTW:
  9. ... and most probably many more people potentially interested in the subject would find it over here. I'm all for it!
  10. Another factor might be that everybody can sell their used CDs on the web - I know several people, even classical music collectors, who handle it that way. They're tired of looking at long walls with shelves, would rather hang a painting. But the new generation doesn't care that much about names. My 14-year daughter knows all about her favourite band, but doesn't care as much for the others. Let's face it, jazz always way a minority music, and those who wanted in depth information even more so. Most people have problems remembering names ...
  11. Great to have you here, Taru!
  12. I'd rather see my Cal Tjader blog (or other jazz related blogs I have in mind) here than on blogger.com!
  13. I think Jamal's and Shearing's conceptions are much too different - except for the trio LP Jazz Moments with Crosby, Shearing never left as much space in his music which Jamal did all the time. The way they shape solos is very different, methinks. I hear lots of linear bop in Shearing, as though he had dug Tristano just as muich as Bud Powell - a trait which I rarely hear in Jamal.
  14. The mailman handed it over an hour ago - been enjoying some excellent music since then! I think a box set of Russells sessions from the mid 1950's until his death would be nice ...
  15. While we're at it - is there a recommendable book on Shearing?
  16. He must have been watching Jamal's career - when Jamal disbanded his trio with Israel Crosby and Vernel Fournier, he hired the two on the spot!
  17. Try it again - Rocky was here in January. I wanted to direct you to the Red Octopus store in Vienna, who initiated the two Kleinschuster issues, but they are out of business ...
  18. Oh! I didn't know about that, and since my copy of the Shearing/Wilson is nowhere to be found ... ... thanks for pointing this out!
  19. Not yet ...
  20. They added a few bonus tracks from the sessions, both vocal and instrumental - good music. As I never heard the original LP sequence, I didn't mind. This was not Crosby's last recording session! The last one was three tracks for Sam Jones' Down Home LP on Riverside on June 25, 1962, Fournier was playing, too. No idea about the bonus tracks, though ....
  21. Still is! Normal workday, basically, but my wife will take me to a local tapas bar this evening - maybe some friends will join in. Thanks all - great place to be!
