  1. The Lionel Hampton All Stars session for Jazztone was reissued in complete form on a Fresh Sound double CD: Sound is very good, highly recommend - be aware there are some quartet tracks, but this is some of the best Hamp I ever heard! The whole band is great!
  2. I happened to buy the CD with his Tadd Dameron renditions today. To me, Barry Harris is the quintessential bebop pianist. All the best to him!
  3. That's a bell I gladly help ringing!
  4. Anything by Belgian Thierry de Mey - but discs with his music are hard to find ... very distinctive rhythmic style. http://www.digicult....cle.asp?id=1249 http://www.epidemic..../prj/meygb.html Here is his Musique de Table - to me, one of the greatest pieces of percussion music I ever saw performed! http://www.youtube.c...h?v=C8jh4vgP9Ec

  6. Holding the shift key while clicking on a link works in every browser to open the link in a new tab or window.
  7. Please be patient - I won't find the time to transfer this to CD before January, I'm afraid, but it will be done. A friend of mine has the reocrder, and I won't see him for a week or two.
  8. I'm using the lastest version of Opera, and everything is fine. Who uses IE, anyway ...
  9. That's now "view new content" at the top right-hand corner. Isn't that the counterpart to "View new posts since your last visit"? "Today's active topics" rather displays any topic active within the last 24 hours, you may have viewed it or not.
  10. Always the same, always new - the birthday ... A happy one it shall be! Best wishes from the old world!
  11. Only things missing is the "Today's active topics" button. Looking very much forward to receive one of them ...
  12. He played on Monbasa's third LP Ode to Kalahari and wrote a nice tune for it, Mutima.
  13. Wow - I'm impressed!
  14. Ambrose Jackson - I had to think for a while with whom I saw him play live - it was Lou Blackburn's Afro-Jazz band Mombasa. Nice trumpeter indeed. Sad to hear of his passing. R.I.P.
  15. Yes I will - simply can't afford them both.
  16. Indeed ... but I will skip the Peggy Lee - June Christy set instead.
  17. I did ... broke my oath not to buy anything for the next six months ...
  18. It's now on Last Chance ...
  19. New Orleans Suite The Pianist (Capitol) The Pianist (Fantasy)
  20. Sad news. His books were some of the first I was able to find about Jazz and its Carribean relations, and they served me well in finding my way from there. Thanks for the good work, and R.I.P.
  21. Last night I watched a crime series on ARD - they were the one over-equalizing the treble, speaking voices always hissssssssssss ...
  22. Did I miss a pm or a download link?
  23. Christopher Hogwwods recording has a bit more punch and is available at a good price in one of its two incarnations: I liked Simon Standage's recording on Chandos, too, which sounds a little more grand, but is available onyl on three separate CDs: I found Andrew Manze a bit lean ... beware of the recent recording by Il Giardino Armonico - totally imbalanced recording!
  24. Vox? Can't remember - I always switch to a different equalizer pattern when I come across this phenomenon ... feeding the sound into the HiFi is okay too, once you found the right plugs and adapters ... what I hate about TV sound is that they almost always compress the music, but never the spoken parts, or not as much, so the music is always too loud.
  25. I wish there was a complete CD edition of the Brandeis concert and all that other Third Stream stuff on Columbia - would be a nice Mosaic Select, given that Michael Cuscuna likes such things ...
