  1. I wanted to see and touch the set to decide about buying one, but this Thursday Saturn at Frankfurt didn't have any, and the boss was not there to tell me what the deal is ...
  2. Any idea who the distributor is that went bankrupt? Their website says it's SPV - a German Rock outlet ...
  3. Oaxaca is avialable here. maybe this site can answer your other questions, too ... http://www.vinceguaraldi.com/home.htm
  4. Received my copy this morning - first impression is that it's a well-written, thoroughly researched book! One question - there's a price of $ 30.00 printed on the back - is that lower than usual for a new hardcover book like this?
  5. Don't forget the two albums Matthews arranged for Lou Rawls, which are currently available on one CD:
  6. This one? Used copies are offered for one or two hundred dollars on amazon marketplace in Germany ...
  7. Seems like most of the pics are gone ... just now that I finally have some to show: Taken at a rehearsal at home, some of the Lp shelves on the right behind me. -- more LPs and the beginning of the CD shelves behind the guitarist - 8 feet high, 15 feet wide.
  8. Whatever happened to the Trend/Discovery catalogue? I presume Albert Marx is no longer with us, so is there any hope some of this might ever be reissued? I have some of his LPs and CDs, and always found they were very good ...
  9. I always liked Belgrave's playing a lot - great to see he's doing well.
  10. Geez - can't wait until my copy arrives, which will take at least another week.
  11. Regular price at most mailorders in Germany is € 21,99
  12. Of course not, they're all fine, but Marrakech is the best, sound-wise.
  13. Why not? It's a date he engineered for CTI, like the others.
  14. Yeah, all the best, in health and business and private life!
  15. Oh - that's one of the most beautiful solo piano recordings I own - in any style! And the sonics are so natural you can feel and almost smell the room ... I will put this on tomorrow.
  16. The Phantom is as great as any Rare Groove album - wonder why it never made it to that series.
  17. http://gizmodo.com/5231112/best-vid%20eo-i...-make-you-smile
  18. Now that's one I would buy in a second - I, too, don't like the sound of the RVG and the LP issues I had weren't too thrilling, either.
  19. Now that I have the Gerald Wilson, Carmell Jones, and Curtis Amy Mosaics and the Lou Blackburn Imperial on a Blue Note CD reissue all together, I realize what a great job Cuscuna did in documenting this too little known side of California hard bop - the Onzy Matthews Select and the recent Lou Rawls twofer CD on capitol with Mathews arrangements also belong here - I will get me the latter two before it's too late. Sad thing is, once these are all sold out, this music may be unavailable for a long time, as most of the other music he reissued ... God bless Mosaic and Cuscuna.
  20. I saw in a duo performance with Abdullah Ibrahim - unforgettable, especially as it was in small club-like venue and we had front row seats!
  21. I wonder why this has stayed in the tape vaults for so long, especially since Criss Cross Jazz always promoted organists like Melvin Rhyne or Sam Yahel, to name just two. More info here. The Turbanator, Peter Bernstein, and Billy Drummond - can't be bad.
  22. Count me in, send me some links!
  23. Another big fan here - I think I have 90% of his recordings.
  24. I don't know what to do ... I have all the music on Japanese Blue Note LPs - should I go for the Select anyway before it goes OOP?
