  1. The Bruyninckx disco says it was recorded ca. 1969-70, originally released on Honeydew Records HD6621, and that Rudy Collins was mistakenly listed as the drummer - it really was Walter Perkins.
  2. Hmmm ... the pic doesn't load, so I'll attach it once more. Sure something I'd like to hear.
  3. Still listening, track by track, can only do it on the computer as my operating system has some rather strange issues with the burners, and I can't listen to music all the time while doing work at the comp. I certainly enjoy it, but recognized only the bonus track so far - the jazziest track Buffalo Springfield ever recorded.
  4. I'm in, as always - could have some more time to spare for these, but nevertheless. Download is fine.
  5. No - the body of a piccolo bass is a bit larger but less deep than that of a cello. And it is tuned in fourths like a bass, whereas a cello is tuned in fifths. But basses come in many different sizes and gauges - some even with five strings.
  6. Strange - I never have any problems, no matter what time of night or day I check in.
  7. Both sessions were isued on CD:
  8. Geez, I missed that news .... one of my favourite singers. R.I.P. The drummer in the background of the photo king ubu posted looks like Kenny Clarke to me.
  9. Me and the Moon is $ 60 or more on amazon marketplace!
  10. Chile Con Soul is a great little gem of a Latin jazz album! Sample in particular displays how well he understood the general concept of Cuban piano. Stix Hooper blends well with the two Cuban percussionist, which are among the best ever (Carlos Vidal and Carmelo Garcia). The tunes the Crusaders members wrote point at the mixture of jazz, R & B , and Cuban dance music that Mongo Santamaria developped so successfully - no small wonder, as Laws was a member of Mongo's band at the time.
  11. Am I going to be the only one in Europe getting one of these exclusive 100 copies?
  12. From the Mosaic site: So what has been out on single CDs that's not in the box? So far I have these: This one, the CD reissue of Lighthouse 66, already seems hard to come by: I have the big band LP (Talk That Talk) somewhere, didn't listen to it in along time. Have the album with Les McCann and the Lighthouse 69 ever been on CD? And has anybody here heard that Nighthawks single?
  13. Yes, but an early Jug set à la the Stitt box would be nice, too. (It could be some Andorran label already did this.)
  14. That makes her younger than me. Very sad...... Same here ... very sad. I enjoyed the recordings with Jimmy that I have.
  15. A Don Patterson set would be great, but I would separate the Stitt/Patterson sessions and release them in a box set of their own with the sessions on Roulette, Verve etc. - Patterson's Cadet sessions could be added accordingly. How about a Booker Ervin Prestige set? Jaki Byard?
  16. Hampton Hawes - Movie musicals - Vault I actually like that - he does some things nobody else did with these tunes, and I like Billy Byers's string arrangements, although they are a bit loud in the mix. Thelonious Monk - Monk's Blues Not poor - if they'd have succeeded in having Monk make the Beatles tunes album, that would have been poor - or freakin' cool ... nah, forget about it. Herbie Hancock would have been a nice pianist for that album. The arranger was a bad choice, but so was the producer. Macero's tunes on this album are what is really poor. Thelonious Monk - Five By Monk By Five That's the first album that made me learn Monk tunes, and still one of my favourites. Kinda Monk's take on Hard Bop. Thad Jones is great here! Who's Arthur Taylor? An album I find poor (hard to remember others, since I sold them all): Weather Report - Mr. Gone (Columbia)
  17. Keep the shipping ... looking forward to listening. I hate drum machines , but it sounds like you did some nice things with them, like 5/4 rhythm etc.
  18. A half and half mixture of pure alcohol an distilled water and a non-perfumed Kleenex - apply sparingly with a sprayer and wipe softly from center to edge, never in a circular motion. This will remove stains of all kinds. As for scratches, nothing you can do. There are polishes, but I never tried them. There are special mixtures available at Hi-Fi dealers with special ingredients which may improve sound even more than a simple alcohol/water solution - many think it's voodoo, but I tested it with a lot of friends, and they all heard a difference in sound reproduction in before/after tests. Sounds clearer, more room ambience, in particular, depending on your playback equipment.
  19. About time ..... that Sun Ra is one to get.
  20. Let's hear some! (I guess I will order a copy, anyway ...)
  21. Joyeux anniversaire, Brownie! All the best to you and your family.
  22. The only ones from this list that I still don't have and considered to get are: Jazz Crusaders – Lighthouse / ’66 / ’68 Stanley Turrentine – Up At Minton’s I once listened to the Jazz Crusaders in a record shop, but they didn't thrill me that much - what do you think?
  23. A different selection of big band tracks arranged by Benny Carter or Benny Golson was on this CD (still availble as a marketplace item), but somehow the Axelrod arrangements sound a little more convincing than these Hollywood/Las Vegas style big band charts: Tracklist: 1. For You My Love 2. If I Had My Life to Live Over 3. Nobody But Me 4. Whispering Grass (Don't Tell the Trees) 5. Gee Baby, Ain't I Good to You 6. If It's the Last Thing I Do 7. Blues for the Weepers 8. That's Your Red Wagon 9. Just Squeeze Me (But Don't Tease Me) 10. It's You 11. I Love You, Yes I Do 12. I Wander 13. Wee Baby Blues 14. (I Wonder) Where Our Love Has Gone
