  1. I decided I will wait for your comments on the sound of the new Columbia box before I go for it. While we're at it: Verve/Universal in Germany announces a box set of Lady Day's Commodore and Decca recordings for November 10, at around € 50.00 ... the title says "masters" and I found out it will be three discs - no alternates, I guess. Since I have the Commodore single CD and the Decca double, I think I can skip that one:
  2. If the H.R.S. box is still available in two weeks, I will order a copy ...
  3. In this particular case, it could sell out any minute!
  4. Sometimes it was "Trinkle Tinkle," sometimes it was "Little Rootie Tootie," sometimes it was "Criss Cross," but the goal was always "Epistrophy." ... and I tend to think Nellie always was on top ...
  5. Speaking of customs: This time I had to pick them up at the customs office at the other end of town, and bring an invoice (they accepted Mosaic's e-mail). I paid € 11,85 import tax for a value of $ 100 (€ 62,36) for the two sets. No customs fee - they didn't claim those € 2,18 as they were below their limit.
  6. Enjoy ! Certainly glad I got the Pearson, that one holds together as a coherent set very well. As usual, I started to pull the duplicates from my shelves - I always sell them as space is limited - and almost fainted when I found out that I had sold the Pearson vinyl years ago! The one Rare Groove CD was all that's still there ... Imagine that set had sold out as well before I got it! I'm really glad some good spirit made me keep the two Johnny Richards Roulette LPs ...

  8. There was this box set on Definitive which I bought several years ago for just 20 bucks as I misread its description for the Columbia set at a bargain price. It's not from Membran. Sound is good, and since they placed the alternates at the end of each disc and include some live tracks not on the SONY box, I kept it. But at 20 bucks I still may get the bargain Columbia box.
  9. Just ordered a copy. Thanks for pointing this out.
  10. The Pearson and Amy Selects arrived today - glad I got them, very good music. The Pearson seems to be sold out at Mosaic ... it's no longer listed on the last chance page. The Amy is still available.
  11. Geez ... this is tempting ... I guess, if you say Braxton, you have to say Threadgill as well.
  12. Amazon.de sells this for EUR 19,95
  13. Sorry I didn't get around to complete my guesses before my vacation, and now that I'M back all kinds of things keep stealing my time ... This was a great, extremely enjoyable disc - I will get back to it frequently. In fact I have one or two of the discs you chose, but it shows that I should listen to music from this era much more often. Thanks a million times!
  14. I once saw him live with Stone Alliance. He plays some great modern mainstream piano on this Tain album: Highly recommended!
  15. Does this mean you've been ripped off??? No - amazon only charges the buyer after the seller has confirmed shipping the goods. As a marketplace seller you have to confirm shipment within 7 days - if you don't, the process is suspended until you confirm shipment. In my case, that the seller didn't confirm means that contrary to their statement they didn't have the Brookmeyer Select in stock. Meanwhile they replied to my e-mail that they still await delivery from their US distributor, which means they have no idea what happened.
  16. "The Dongle" would make a great title for a weird funky organ trio piece. Oh, and welcome back!
  17. For the non-alcoholic tea break (or does he pour some rum?):
  18. I'm not a Peterson fan, but I would consider this for the bassists ... and € 10 for 3 discs is a nice price.
  19. Amazon today e-mailed that the seller of the Brookmeyer (a Munich bookshop) had not confirmed shipment within the timespan pre-set for charging my credit card. You know what that means. I e-mailed the seller, anyway. Since my funds for CDs are totally used up, I will stop hunting for now. Time will tell if used copies come within reach ...
  20. Since there is not much in the EMI catalog any more that I want, an embargo would hit Mosaic in the first place ...
  21. Mosaic shipped my Pearson and Amy sets, but still no news from the Amazon seller from whom I ordered the Brookmeyer. I'm afraid this order will blow up in smoke as well. Amazon marketplace sellers are too often listing items as being in stock that are in fact not ... ... they should do something about this.
  22. I got this last week. IMHO the track with Lucky is the best. Blakey displays some bad timing on the samba beat - instead o--oo--oo--oo--oo--oo he almost plays o-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo with the bass drum - and he has trouble locking in with the bass player. Victor Sproles is such a great bassist - never played a bad note. Blakey always had problems playing bossa nova and samba ...
  23. For some modern stuff, try this, intriguing music!
  24. Again: My thoughts exactly ...
