  1. I heard "Power to the People" on AFN Radio when it was released, but never saw a copy in a local shop at the time. Bellaphon started distributing Milestone along with the other Fantasy group labels, but not from the label's start, and the earlier titles were rare over here. (I remember Milestone was distributed by Audiofidelity before Fantasy took over.) I must admit I found the funky or otherwise experimental LPs like Canyon Lady, Multiple, The Elements, Black Miracle, more interesting than the neo-bop stuff he did live. That was what I was into at the time. I still like them.
  2. In the November 2007 issue of Jazz Times there is an article about turntables and vinyl. Along the way it mentions that contrary to what many believe, the Blue Note mono masters were mixdowns from the stereo masters! That should be earthshattering for some ....
  3. I'd say the Keepnews series is okay 'cause he knows his stuff. Still one could wonder why the series includes sessions that are still available as OJCs .... The RVG works because RVG knows his stuff - I suppose he has a hand in chosing the titles, or there is someone who knows the catalogue. The remainder looks like it's done by a new team that has no idea what this huge catalogue is all about and doesn't even care to look what's available and what's not. I cannot follow the mind who brought up the idea of reissuing those twofer LP compilations on CD. I dare not think any farther into the future of the label.
  4. ... done by Christian McBride! Great reading - McBride tickles out one anecdote after another!
  5. Graham Haynes - Roy Haynes Arturo O'Farrill - Chico O'Farrill Kenny Drew Jr. - Kenny Drew Sascha Lewis - John Lewis Darryl Thompson - Lucky Thompson
  6. The Milt Hinton sides are great! Second the recommendation on the Konitz and Braff/Barnes.
  7. It seems like most here slept on Joe's albums back then. I started buying all the LPs as soon as they were out from a certain point on, but sold them when the CD reissues came, and then the box set. I think Keepnews did a good job putting Joe in many different contexts, as his live gigs were pretty much the same over the years - he was touring Germany regularly back then. Yes - I thought there was an audible edit. I wonder why Keepnews did'nt restore the complete track for the box.
  8. I have a CD recorded at the Caravan of Dreams with Newman, Dupree, James Clay, and Ellis Marsalis - wish Marchel Ivery had joined in, too! R.I.P. - those Texas tenors are something else.
  9. If I really wanted to have it, and chances are small to get it at a better price, I'd pay up to $ 40 for one CD - and then live on bargain sales for the next few months. But these are really rare exceptions.
  10. They want € 79,95!!! Two options: 1. ordering from amazon 2. waiting for Zweitausendeins Considering we get our new car in a week or two, I'll rather wait some.
  11. This really sucks. I mean, I got mine many years ago, but still it sucks!!! I feel with you!
  12. There are no secrets between real organissimists!
  13. You're welcome, Mr. B., and welcome back to the party. Nice comments, and now I must keep my promise to lend you the magazine featuring your second favorite composer, Sibelius ..... (that's how I talked him into getting back here! )
  14. Pirchner-Pepl Jazz-Zwio: Live at Montreux Got this from a Swiss Ebay seller after hunting for it for more than ten years - now my Pirchner collection is complete!
  15. There are plenty of those hybrids: I once heard a "flumpet" and a "flugabone".
  16. I will call my store tomorrow and ask for their price ...
  17. jazz, JAZZ, jazz
  18. It probably means it is boxed and labelled and sitting on a cart to be hauled to the post office.
  19. Humor is the only things that helps in such a situation. But you either learn it or you don't. I gave that Spiegel review and interview to my wife to read when we talked about it and she mentioned how much she loved the Köln Concert, and I played the unedited Village Vanguard recording that resulted in the Fort Yawuh LP, and there is an annoucement by Jarrett complaining about people chuckling and talking, on disc 2, back then already! In the Village Vanguard!!!
  20. My sincere best wishes, much more music and many more years of a great life to come!
  21. Thanks - just what I wanted to know!
  22. ... and I can't hear any specific Laura Nyro influence in her singing. Pretty much a mainstream affair, it seems to me.
  23. While we're at it: What would be the best way, sound-wise, to get Ree's early Atlantic stuff - the single CD reissues or the 4-CD box? Thanks a lot for recommendations!
  24. I think we all should rather keep our hammers handy, just in case ...
  25. Marcus, can we get some answers? Please?
