  1. I was close to inquiring about it ...
  2. Some never grow up ... and drive away the most valuable particpants!
  3. So Wynton finally decided to make a film about his previous incarnation ...
  4. Even the lowest level graphic software can reduce the size of that file - I always do so and upload them. If the file is removed from the website you link to, your avatar is gone.
  5. The Burrell I've almost given up to wish for, but I would pre-order a copy at once! The Dexter isn't enough material for a decent CD (less than 30 minutes), as the LP included a track from a session that was included in the respective reissue. The Wilson - well ..... what is that unissued material?
  6. Wasn't there another live date released by Quincy himself on his Qwest label?
  7. Personnel for the June 27, 1960 concert at Lausanne, Switzerland (TCB Records 02012): Benny Bailey, Roger Guérin, Clyde Reasinger, Floyd Standifer tp Jimmy Cleveland, Ake Persson, Melba Liston, Quentin Jackson tb Julius Watkins frh Phil Woods, Porter Kilbert, Harold McNair, Jerome Richardson, Sahib Shihab reeds Les Spann fl, g Patti Bown p Buddy Catlett b Joe Harris d This should be correct as it is the personnel Quincy announces ... seems Harold McNair from merry olde England "replaced" Budd Johnson ...
  8. Any really important problems?
  9. Base line is, if you like one of Lucky's records, you will like all of them - there isn't a bad one. The best have been mentioned here or in the earlier thread, and you cab alway take a look a the Lucky Thompson Discography by Noal Cohen - I don't take any responsibility for any consequences a visit there might have.
  10. In the liner notes to the recent Stanley Turrentine CD A Blueish Bag Cuscuna says the remaining two sessions with Pearson arrangements would be adressed at a later date.
  11. I have nothing against obtaining the music as a download, as long as I get: 1 - good sound quality 2 - well researched and edited expanded editions 3 - decent artwork and liner notes that I can printout and store along with the burn The problem with reissues is the cost for transfer into digital and archive research - I'm afraid the quality range will surpass that of CD reissues by far. Mosaic going the download path - I can see that.
  12. Thanks a lot for commenting! Only people from the US and Spanish speaking countries on this disc: Sanchez is on one track of the disc, but not on this one. It's a US player from the same generation you wouldn't expect in such a context. None of the players you mentioned. A somewhat overlooked album. Not Rava - a US boy. Not Hank nor Keith, a younger player - it's the bassist grunting here! Picked as a tribute to the late, great. Hilton Ruiz.
  13. Sorry Al - very nice writeup, but you mixed up the two: Milton Banana is the drummer (hope his sticks were straight), and Tommy Williams plays bass.
  14. The Green Field 2006 Looks like an ECM cover ...... if I didn't know his music sounds otherwise ...
  15. Aha .... very interesting responses! Reservations duly noted! (Sometime in December?)
  16. That's a harsh word for criticism of scientists who think they are more clever than the sensitive processes of biological evolution. We really have no definite idea of the effects on our biological environment. And in cases were the modified species are no longer fertile, making agriculture depend on the genetics industry, I see nothing but economical interests behind it all.
  17. I haven't read the article either, but hunger around the world is more a problem of food distribution and economical power than a matter of having genetically altered food to increase production.
  18. The re-designed covers show that corporate identity as it is now is more important than the more diversified it was back then ...
  19. Thanks for chiming in, Mr. Bassman! I think it has a lot to do with listening habits - the more you listen to jazz, the more details you hear - it is much the same with all types of Latin music. # 3 is a very interesting album - isn't that a nice bass solo, too? A rather overlooked album ... # 5 shame on you that you don't recognize the bassist! You should!!! You know him!!! But I didn't play this to you nor give you a copy, with regard to this BFT ... it was released in 2000 and recorded late 1999 or early 2000.
  20. Plus Joe had some of the best Rhodes tinklers on his albums: Herbie Hancock, Larry Willis, George Cables, George Duke ..... it won't get any better.
  21. Not me. Grew up with it, too, and still like it, too.
  22. Especially since there is still some playing capacity left on all those discs ... I'm beginning to hate reissue compilers.
  23. Now I didn't necessarily expect you to guess anybody, but, what did you like, and why?
  24. I would like to hear how Francy Boland sounded behind Chet on the last sessions covered here, but I do not need all of this box. Are there still single CDs of those sessions?
