  1. No I saw them at Southampton University
  2. How to inhabit someone else's song. And I say that as someone who would probably take Astral Weeks over every other album in my collection
  3. She was kind of ever present in the background over here as a reminder of the swinging 60s but also someone who transcended that scene to create an interesting career beyond it. I agree that 'Broken English' is a great record. https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2025/jan/30/marianne-faithfull-singular-icon-of-british-pop-dies-aged-78 Just read she grew up in my home town, quite a few years before me sadly
  4. Sorry can't answer your question but they were a great band. I saw them about 1982 but no Don Cherry
  5. Thanks, don't need my earth shattered today so it could just fit the bill
  6. Vinnie Burke All-Stars - s/t [HMV, UK 1958 Test Pressing]
  7. Acting Trio scared me witless about 35 years ago, bet I'd like it today. Coursil, Moncur and Terroade are the ones for me on that list but have LPs of each which I'll stick with
  8. That looks interesting, how is it?
  9. This is it. First editions in many other art fields command the highest prices be that fine art prints, ceramics, first edition books etc. Why should recorded music be any different? If people want to pay to own the "original" in pristine condition and they can afford to do so then so be it and good luck to them, it's their money. I'd hazard a guess that some of them do play the LPs rather than hang them on the wall but even if they don't and only keep them as an artefact I can't get upset about that either. It's a lovely thing to own. Some of these collectors may equally regard having at least two box sets containing the same version of the album on the same format as a bit odd, after all you can only play one at a time.
  10. Available from 1st February at which point we'll know the cost, see my comment up thread as to likely cost bracket given this series previous release, $100/LP
  11. I'm guessing but I suspect the perception is that "Night of..." is more adjacent to the Strata East titles, it shares the "John Coltrane" track with 'Glass Bead Games". Whether or not the SE titles, especially GBG, deserve their caché and attendant prices is for another thread.
  12. That looks like a well put together set, a good concept. I won't buy it as I know the Jazz content and have only passing interest in the fusion/rock.
  13. That's a good one So is that, time to give it a spin
  14. Almoravid by Joe Chambers for me. I have the Shaw, it's very good but...
  15. Interesting, thank you
  16. Vinnie Burke All-Stars - s/t, an HMV test pressing of all things Derek Bailey - Lot 73 Vinnie Burke's String Jazz Quartet - s/t The Smith/Glamann Quintet - Poinciana Immanuel Wilkins - Blues Blood So much for LP-dry January...
  17. Joel Ross - Kingmaker [Blue Note, USA 2019]
  18. The only Dylan album I have ever really connected with. I realise that puts me in a small minority. I'm interested to hear the bonus material.
  19. Ganavya - Daughter Of A Temple [Leiter, Germany 2025 RE] I think this is a very special album Glad to have snagged the second pressing having missed out last year You went for it. I'm still thinking about it
  20. Ganavya - Daughter Of A Temple Ambrose Akinmusire - on the tender spot of every calloused moment
  21. Saw that referenced on Bluesky this week, I'd completely forgotten about them despite rating their earlier releases That I do like
  22. Oh yes, I need to dig that out again
  23. And how do they both compare to the 1st press LPs which I expect you also have? I have a 'Dialogue' and I'm flirting with a 'Components' but I could buy the Mosaic and have change, but no lovely LP ans sleeve to hold...
  24. Thanks both. I suspected that the Delmarks were the best but it's good to get the confirmation as there's so many reissues about these days. Now to fill the inexplicable gap on my shelves
