  1. Money talks. Big money talks loudly. Frankly I'm fed up with all the news coverage of the "will they, won't they" with the Premiership and the return of 'top flight' football in Europe. As much as I like my football it really does fade into insignificance compared to other priorities. Online adverts for betting companies and the Bundesliga today say it all really. Given the privations that many are suffering right now the sight of such astronomically reimbursed, pampered sportsmen playing again at the moment actually sticks in the craw somewhat. Bread and circuses
  2. Grant Green - Nigeria [Blue Note] Tone Poet
  3. Johnny Scott Quintet - Purcell Variations For Five [Fontana] New arrival. The music is a lot better than the cover image...the Variations have nothing to do with the estimable Henry as it is.
  4. Interesting, thanks. It's such a strong line up of musicians I couldn't see it not delivering
  5. I need to get a copy of that one. How is it?
  6. Morton Feldman Piano Music [5 CD] from Another Timbre. Possibly the ideal lockdown soundtrack as time stretches... and in total contrast Gordon Beck Quartet - Experiment In Pops [Major Minor] Mono LP. For when things getter livelier...

    Anthony Braxton

He must think that all his "friendly experiences" are rolling in £ or $. I would have bought any number of 2CD set versions of these recent boxes. It surprises me that all the recent collaborations are so successful to merit such documentation. But maybe that's not the criterion. But he knows what he wants to release and good luck to him if he's making money from them. He's done enough in my book to do what he wants unquestioned by the likes of me.
  8. That article just makes me so glad I was on the losing side 250 years ago And given what's happening over here at the moment it takes something to say that.
  9. I'm in, what a lines up! Looking forward to hearing it all. I'll wait until 5 June so you benefit from the waiver
  10. Thanks, led me to find it to rent on YouTube. Weekend viewing sorted
  11. Today...so far Kenny Burrell - Introducing [Blue Note, Tone Poet] Gary Thomas and Seventh Quadrant - Code Violations [Enja]. Prompted to dig this out by mention of Thomas in another thread Strata Institute - Cipher Syntax [JMT] New Directions In Jazz Unit, directed by Bill Le Sage - Vier Celli+Jazz [Phillips] Zagreb Jazz Quartet - With Pain I Was Born [Fontana]
  12. That's now on my purchase list for June 5 too. For Thomas mostly but also for Peterson Jr.
  13. And same here, although I did listen to the album yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Possibly the box's influence
  14. Nicely done Sir. I think the sax only releases were some of my first Hemphill working backwards in my early Jazz days from Marty Ehrlich. With you on WSQ too.
  15. Many Happy Returns for the 11th to TWWWLBYM
  16. 'Jack Johnson' followed by 'In A Silent Way' All of it in one sitting? Some great music across those albums. Abdul Wadud on 'Raw Materials...' a highlight
  17. If it hadn't been for Covid we'd have been treated to the full British patriotic celebration with lots of attempts to recreate the "spirit" of the day in the way only we seem to attempt to do - much flag waving and tea parties. I bet somewhere a politician has somehow managed to shoehorn our current "war against Covid" into comparisons with '39-45. There was a very touching clip on the news of a street in Wales where everyone came out of the houses, remained socially distanced and clapped an RAF veteran as he strode the length of his street. Another Navy veteran spoke of how it was a sad day for him, remembering "all my mates". That to me was the essence of what a celebration should have been - marking and celebrating the efforts and sacrifices of that generation. It would be interesting to know how it's been remembered elsewhere in Europe today. I wonder whether for the liberated nations the celebration/commemoration comes on liberation day. And, one wonders what it means in Germany today.
  18. That makes me smile, especially that he effort was put in twice.
  19. Remainer, remoaner... Waitrose recently had the long spaghetti in Harpenden. My local Turkish supermarket in North London has plenty of the short...you just need to be in the right place I guess...fariners innit
  20. Lloyd McNeill - Treasures [Baobab Recording Co.] perfect music for a beautifully sunny spring day in London town. Forever grateful to felser for this LP (and the other McNeills)
  21. Ahem... https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=face+masks&ref=nb_sb_noss
  22. Hannibal And The Sunrise Orchestra - The Light [Baystate]
  23. Sometimes I feel we're so far behind the curve we can't even see it yet...any further development of that thought will inevitably take me into political statements so I'll remain silent.
  24. Interesting. They're still shipping to UK, My Hannibal Peterson LP arrived only yesterday from Japan and mighty pleased I am with it and with them for getting it here . In under 10 days too which is perfectly reasonable from my perspective.
  25. Not sure the chicken would agree...but I kind of agree with your approach otherwise Just off the back of this conversation I've just looked up our current government position on masks, which is " Face masks play a very important role in clinical settings, such as hospitals but there’s very little evidence of widespread benefit from their use outside of these clinical settings. Facemasks must be worn correctly, changed frequently, removed properly and disposed of safely in order to be effective. " It would seem that it's the correct use of them that is the message here
