  1. Ric Colbeck Quartet - The Sun Is Coming Up [Fontana] finally got myself a nice NM copy. What a session. J.F. Jenny-Clark!
  2. I claim the prize. bigbandrecord is Jair Bolsanaro. Welcome to the board Mr. President!
  3. PM sent on the Shepp
  4. Whoa! He actually means this shit, doesn't he? Must be a hell of a lonely bubble. The assertion that these death rates are attributable to 'regular' conditions must be founded on some evidence that the root cause of a spike in such deaths is travelling the world. Or maybe it's just a coincidence that death rates from 'regular' conditions have spiked like never before. Abject bollocks. Like Bresna said upthread times to use the 'ignore' function.
  5. Do you know Idris Rahman's trio Wildflower? Bet you do but if not try and have a listen. https://wildflowermusic.bandcamp.com/ Apologies I realise I'm thread bombing here. Maybe we need a London Jazz thread
  6. I wish I'd listened to this BFT. Great to see a significant UK representation from Shabaka (check out the new one by the same band), Nubya and I'll Considered too! Go London! Nice one Hot Ptah
  7. all depends on how much you want to hear the music, I guess. we can't decide that for you Have you checked streaming sites to see if the ones you want are available to try? Another, cheaper route to see if you like the music enough to invest in an original. As Clifford says the originals' quality are variable, extremely, We're not talking audiophile releases here.
  8. That just makes me so glad we have a different gun ownership culture here. If there is some kind of societal breakdown, God forbid, at least we won't be shooting each other or the whoever's trying to restore order at the time.
  9. Yes both had that sticker, bought in the last three years or so. The cover quality is good. I agree with mjzee above - similar names, different continents, same opinion . If you want the music, don't want to spend on the originals then buy these at that price. Why not buy one title on Get Back and another on this reissue series and then you can compare yourself? And, welcome to the board!
  10. It was mjzee who posted about the Sharrock not me. Coincidentally I do have two of the reissues you're looking at and have seen plenty for sale. The ones I bought, a Braxton and a Moncur III sound ok compared to a good number of original BYGs I have. Nothing better. I'll go with Clifford and call them as bootlegs The few Affinity reissues I have sound as good as the originals but the covers are nowhere near as nice. As others have said the originals aren't known for their quality but none I have heard are the lesser for it as the music is generally fantastic Coursil, Arthur Jones, Terroade all worth looking for of the less well known artists.
  11. This makes sense as sobering as the announcement is. They're just easing restrictions in Wuhan about 4 months into a far stricter lockdown than we've experienced so far. I have a good friend who before this made international flights for business on average at least twice a week. He's now doing most, if not all, of those meetings remotely. If that becomes the new normal that can only be a very good thing for the environment.
  12. That guy practically scalps "Wall Of Voodoo" with that pocket knife
  13. Bill Dixon,Cecil taylor - Duets, 1992 [Triple Point Records] continuing my Cecil day
  14. Whilst I agree with all of what you say Rooster_Ties I still think whether the intention behind the comment was darkly humourous, ironic, glib or sarcastic (and I'm only guessing obviously) it was at least insensitive and at worst, I shan't go there. Those figures in John's original post are human deaths, families and friends affected. Call me censorious but I still think in these difficult times some accounting for others is needed and most of the dark humour I've enjoyed has done this well. I'm going to leave it that on this subject, I think, as It's not really for me to understand other's motivations or thought processes and online is a notorious medium for misinterpretation which is what I hope I've done in the first instance.
  15. Unfathomable comment given the circumstances.
  16. Cecil Taylor - One Too Many Salty Swift And Not Goodbye [hat Hut Records]
  17. this made me laugh probably more than it should have. Thanks Bill F
  18. isolation seems to have loosened my purse strings...what you save on commute costs...
  19. Thanks for the inspiration porcy62. Starting my listening day with the HMV Mono
  20. Throwing Muses - Hunkpapa Probably 25 years since I heard this. It's aged well but I didn't care for my vinyl as well back then...
  21. Best post of the thread. A virus doesn't have a nationality, end of. Hope you're hanging in there porcy62. The UK medical world is learning a lot from the Italian experience. A sad consequence but one that may save some lives in the end.
  22. That just about describes my cataloguing - separate sheets for vinyl, CDs and now downloads for each genre Jazz, Classical and laughingly 'non- Jazz'. Kind of shows my priority genre-wise.
  23. Whilst I respect the logic he hasn't been seen in public for quite a while so I suspect his status as a super spreader is pretty low. Just announced that UK will have mass self-testing available in days, delivered to those self-isolating by Amazon. Available to others in chemists. A good development if achieved.
