  1. A good watch it was too. Certainly gave respect to the subject. Left me wondering how her health is these days. The modest circumstances mentioned upthread seemed evident.
  2. I've seen him with Tim Berne and been impressed. There's a duet album with TB that I keep meaning to sample. The run of albums on Pi are worth your attention. I often find them a challenging listen but in a good way, knotty compositions always well played by well chosen musicians. I find it quite cerebral music but that's just me. Notvmusic to whistle along too perhaps but none the worse for that.
  3. Me too! Here's hoping it makes it an early Xmas present
  4. Good win for England, as expected. Very good win by Ireland. A good weekend for me
  5. I enjoyed the Springbok v All Black match. Cheslin Kolbe could be the star of the tournament if SA go deep. All Blacks were the All Blacks and will yet again be the team to beat. I don't like Jones's England very much but will be cheering them on nonetheless. My remote Irish heritage means I will be wearing green on occasion too. I hope we get some surprises along the way. The Pumas nearly did so today. France are always so unpredictable. The early morning timings in the UK aren't great.
  6. Thanks for posting. No matter how many interviews I read they always bring a smile to my face.
  7. Today's been a good vinyl day Rank & File reissue
  8. Similarly, Anthony Braxton and Larry Ochs (Fictive Five) have dedicated tunes to other artists. Are they to be branded with partial charlatanism for doing so? Maybe this is only a "crime" if you're playing not up to snuff at the same time.
  9. Thanks for making this point so well. It needed to be said. To bring the conversation back to Rempis, I've generally preferred KV when they play together. Happy to be in a minority on that.
  10. Just two weeks...I'm hoping they use Royal Mail rather than another courier with no pick-up option as it's bound to arrive on a day I'm in the office rather than working at home
  11. Lucky you! I saw her last summer, fantastic. Mind you, she always seems on top of her game when I see her
  12. It's a shame they don't seem to get European distribution. I've enjoyed the couple I've picked up.
  13. What do I need to know about the Olduvai? Actually just found I can listen to it online. Absolutely. Why enjoy the last days of summer outside...TMS on the earbuds, racks dutifully perused in three shops (two first visits) within half an hour of home. Taken by the number of original Tubby Fontanas I could have bought, five at least. People off-loading before the boxset
  14. George Russell Septet - The Stratus Seekers [Riverside/Fontana, mono] Another of today's purchases
  15. ECM removed their entire catalogue for a number of years and only reinstated it in the last two or so
  16. Iltar - s/t [Tiwa, 1977] took a punt on this in the local shop this afternoon. Very DIY, including sound quality, but it has something about it. A freer Prime Time perhaps, perhaps not
  17. Steve check out Olie's playing with the Riverloam Trio. I think that will be right up your street. https://www.discogs.com/Miko%C5%82aj-Trzaska-Olie-Brice-Mark-Sanders-Riverloam-Trio/release/3877844 https://www.discogs.com/artist/3817910-Riverloam-Trio Also see if you can hear 'Immune to Clockwork'. Excellent but maybe less up your street. I'm guessing here from what I've read you enjoy, obviously https://www.discogs.com/Olie-Brice-Quintet-Immune-To-Clockwork/release/7231714
  18. I'm more than happy to be advertised to. I was listening to the first album a few days ago, prompted by the FreeJazz review. Order made. Looking forward to hearing it.
  19. I don't know about this one actually. Thanks for raising that. It will be PD under UK law I suspect He's worked closely with other musicians in the past to release their material, e.g. Basil Kirchin
  20. This has just got an LP reissue. From the ever estimable Trunk Records. I'd never heard of it prior to their email announcement. Listening now on Spotify and thoroughly enjoying it. One to purchase.
  21. 'Fats' Sadi - Ensadinado [SABA] finally got myself a copy of this. Sounding very good indeed
  22. Happy Birthday!!!!
  23. Thanks. That's the band I saw I think, certainly that instrumental line-up
