  1. Two very different but equally good exhibitions this weekend Hiroshi Sugimoto's photograhy at the Hayward Gallery https://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/whats-on/art-exhibitions/hiroshi-sugimoto and then, George Baselitz sculpture at The Serpentine https://www.serpentinegalleries.org/whats-on/georg-baselitz-sculptures-2011-2015/
  2. Sonny Rollins - East Broadway Run Down [Impulse, UK 1976 RE] A big album in my early Jazz listening. I'm never sure these days how successful it is but it sounds good today
  3. Haven't thought about that album for a long time
  4. That really did make me 😂. Such a long and complicated history we have with our northern neighbours, beautifully summarised right there
  5. I didn't know this, thank you. Will definitely be getting it when it turns up over here
  6. This is now explained in the edited first post Dates are now in the edited first post
  7. They are all very good to my ears. The more recent are a bit more focussed, some others can sprawl both in numbers of players and time (see Rogue Art 2CD release for example). Having said that one of my favourites is an early one, the first https://www.discogs.com/master/143927-Exploding-Star-Orchestra-We-Are-All-From-Somewhere-Else Mazurek is a fascinating artist who I've been following for about 25 years now. He performs his compositions in so many configurations from solo (great when on trumpet, a lot more challenging when solely electronics) up to the ESO.
  8. Classy third stream works for me. Now to find a copy. I can't imagine it was a huge seller at the time which may account for it being so few and far between
  9. I hope that's recorded Tyshawn Sorey's playing his interpretation of 'Members...' at the moment
  10. Back to the album, the Stonehenge side is online and is terrific. How's the other side compare?
  11. Great, thanks. I see it's 'name your price', moral dilemma time ...
  12. Bought on the strength of another of hers. Bit of a punt really
  13. Always wondered what the mystical three vertical chalked lines represented That's one I would really like to find. Online prices are currently £125 and upwards so it will take a decent month or a very weak moment as it stands circa 1980, camping there at the Solstice with a few hundred others for the free festival. More drugs on sale than the entire chain of Boots had on sale, an innocent student didn't know what to do...
  14. Thanks, I'll have a look for a stream
  15. What's that apart from admirably minimalist cover design?
  16. Fred Frith & Susana Santos Silva - Laying Demons To Rest Anna Webber - Shimmer Wince Henry Threadgill - The Other One
  17. Some very good performances on this recording of a Tippett memorial https://pigrecords.bandcamp.com/album/a-celebration-of-keith-tippett Digital or Blu-ray
  18. Trzaska with Mark Sanders and Olie Brice in the Riverloam Trio, well worth a listen. And the Oles brothers with Theo Jorgensmann also worthwhile
  19. I like that album.
  20. Billy Valentine - No Better Than This
  21. Great BFT, thanks John Looking back at my initial comments I see it was 3, 8, 9 and 12 that really piqued my interest Your recent comment about no.3 made me wonder that it could be Allen Lowe. I'm intrigued to hear more of that album. I have 8 and 12 but obviously don't listen to them enough or closely enough And 9 is just a great discovery Happy New Year!
  22. Two other UK players I should have mentioned earlier are John Pope and Charlotte Keefe. Both releasing worthwhile material. I gave the Michael Foster a quick listen, certainly sounds like it's worth spending time with, thanks Steve Also, interesting list colinmce, at least six names I don't know which are great leads.
  23. OK, with you now. Shame though as I was hoping for some new names. Reid seems to do a lot of sidewoman recordings, the newish Melford and Fujiwara come to mind but I'd definitely like to see her lead some recordings.
