  1. On June 3th 1938 Buck Clayton, Lester Young, Count Basie, Walter Page and Helen Humes recorded 8 tracks that were later partly used by Vanguard in their issue of the Spirituals To Swing Concert as if it was part of the concert. The concert was organised by John Hammond who worked for Columbia. Probably the session was recorded in a Columbia studio.
  2. Alas not complete. 'Song of the wanderer' is missing on the Vanguard set. It is included on the EPM disc Count Basie The golden years vol. 2 1938. That disc in turn misses 'Lady be good'
  3. Lester recorded twice with Guarnieri. One session under Lester's name for Keynote so that will be included. The other is under Johnny's name but for Savoy. There is no mention of Savoy. My guess is that the 2 Cd's worth of Savoy recordings won't be included. I hope they include the two instrumental takes takes of 'I've found a new baby' from the June 1st, 1937 Teddy Wilson session. And also the Commodore/Sony Kansas City Five session. It has neither Pres or Basie. But with Buck Clayton, Eddie Durham, Freddie Green, Walter Page and Jo Jones is it a Basie-ite session and I wouldn't know in what other set it would fit. .
  4. I've cataloged most of my collection. I find it easy to use. If you add a CD (or another format) your collection all sessions on that CD are added to your collection. Sometimes this does not work and you have to add that session seperatly to your collection. If a specific issue is missing you can contact Tom Lord and will add it to the database. Added CD's/LP's etc. are coloured green so if you look up a session you see immediately that you have that session.
  5. The person on the right is Mitch Miller I think. He played oebo on the first Bird with strings date. Bird is the one on the left
  6. Only the alternate takes of Laura, I'm in the mood for love and I'll remember April are on 'the complete Charlie Parker on Verve' 10 CD set. The rest is new. To me anyway. I don't know about the japanse LP's Gheorghe mentions. They are not mentioned in Tom Lord's on line disco.
  7. Touch of evil The lady from Shanghai I remember I liked them when I saw them but haven't seen the for a long time. Journey into fear The stranger
  8. Thanks for pointing this out, I scrolled over that.
  9. For me the next set would be Ella Fitzgerald/Chick Webb and after that the Dial set. But this skips the line. There is one thing I don't underdstand. The box is called 'The complete..' But in the disco starting with the June 14, 1945 session I see still a number of unissued takes. For the Breakdowns I understand that. But not for complete performances. We'll have to wait and see (and hear)
  10. You might want to try this Guido Nielsen 4 CD set: http://www.amazon.com/Scott-Joplin-Complete-Marches-1895-1914/dp/B001UBKHZG/ref=sr_1_4?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1422171099&sr=1-4&keywords=guido+nielsen
  11. From reading the Mosaic site I think they have gotten their hands on unsold Universal stock.
  12. Back on last chance: The Complete Verve Gerry Mulligan Concert Jazz Band. Complete Roy Eldridge The Complete Verve Tal Farlow Sessions The Complete Mercury Art Farmer/Benny Golson Jazztet These are Universal sets with a Universal number on the back, but are part of the limited number of sets
  13. The John Carter Bobby Bradford Select is now on the running low list.
  14. The Tony Williams Select and the Lionel Hampton set are now on last chance. Duke Ellington 1936-40 Small Group Sessions is now running low.
  15. It became Windsor during WW I. In the same time Battenberg became Mountbatten.
  16. Very sad indeed. I liked his posts, his blog and chatting with him at the Dr. Jazz Meetings. His 4 2 CD sets with the complete Hit of The Week recordings on Archeophone are a lasting monument for him.
  17. I always found the sound on the Spotlite Lp 's to soft. You had to 'pump up the volume' to hear it well. This puts this set clearly in the picture for me though I already have most of it. I have no trouble with the samples given that the Internet quality will be lower than the actual CD. I prefer the CD's with master takes first and alternate takes at the end of the CD. The Verve Charlie Parker set I find very hard to listen to because of the many false starts and incomplete takes. I love how the Miles Davis/Gil Evans set was programmed.
  18. Savoy has a lot of false starts etc. Dial hasn't .
  19. Mosaic just put the details for their upcomming 9 CD The Complete Dial Modern Jazz Sessions (#260) http://www.mosaicrecords.com/prodinfo.asp?number=260-MD-CD Release date late October
  20. Danish Ellingtonian Bjarne Busk who heard all of the stockpile said that there are still about 10 quality CD's that could be produced from the stockpile. Bjarne compiled the My People CD for Storyville.
  21. Yes a great win. Maybe not riding the TdF didn't give him end of season fatigue a lot of riders suffer from and left him with enough energy to beat Tony Martin. I was impressed by fellow dutchman Tom Dumoulin the number 3 only 23 years of age.
  22. The Jazz Crusaders set is gone.
  23. I'm not sure about The Man I Love and Don't blame me. But I think Sirius (1966). Wich I don't have. Wrap your troubles in dreams (Capitol 2-3-45), Until the real thing comes along(Soul 7-11-58), Red beans (Coleman Hawkins With The Red Garland Trio 12-8-59), Trough for the night and Hawk eyes (Hawk Eyes 3-4-1959), I only have eyes for you (Keynote 31-1-44), It's the talk of the town (Capitol 9-3-45). Hope this helps you. Remco
