Sexual harassment okay as it ensures humans breed, Russian judge rules A Russian advertising executive who sued her boss for sexual harassment lost her case after a judge ruled that employers were obliged to make passes at female staff to ensure the survival of the human race. The unnamed executive, a 22-year-old from St Petersburg, had been hoping to become only the third woman in Russia's history to bring a successful sexual harassment action against a male employer. She alleged she had been locked out of her office after she refused to have intimate relations with her 47-year-old boss. "He always demanded that female workers signalled to him with their eyes that they desperately wanted to be laid on the boardroom table as soon as he gave the word," she earlier told the court. "I didn't realise at first that he wasn't speaking metaphorically." The judge said he threw out the case not through lack of evidence but because the employer had acted gallantly rather than criminally. "If we had no sexual harassment we would have no children," the judge ruled. Since Soviet times, sexual harassment in Russia has become an accepted part of life in the office, work place and university lecture room. According to a recent survey, 100 per cent of female professionals said they had been subjected to sexual harassment by their bosses, 32 per cent said they had had intercourse with them at least once and another seven per cent claimed to have been raped. Eighty per cent of those who participated in the survey said they did not believe it possible to win promotion without engaging in sexual relations with their male superiors. Women also report that it is common to be browbeaten into sex during job interviews, while female students regularly complain that university professors trade high marks for sexual favours. Only two women have won sexual harassment cases since the collapse of the Soviet Union, one in 1993 and the other in 1997. Human rights activists say that Russian women remain second-class citizens and are subjected to some of the highest levels of domestic abuse in the world.

Woman pried off boyfriend's toilet after 2 years...

Boyfriend of woman stuck to toilet gets probation NESS CITY, Kan. - A man whose girlfriend sat on a toilet for so long that the seat adhered to her body will spend six months on probation. Kory McFarren pleaded no contest last month to a misdemeanor count of mistreatment of a dependent adult. A judge sentenced him Tuesday to six months in jail but granted the probation after the victim, Pam Babcock, asked for leniency. "She didn't believe that her circumstances were his fault," Ness County Attorney Craig Crosswhite said. Babcock's plight became known in February when McFarren called the Ness County sheriff, expressing concern about his live-in girlfriend. When authorities arrived, they found Babcock physically stuck to the toilet. McFarren told police Babcock had refused to come out of the bathroom for two years. Medical personnel estimated she'd been sitting on the toilet for at least a month and said the seat had adhered to sores on her body. She is now under the protection of a guardian who was appointed through the legal department at the hospital where she received treatment. Also Tuesday, McFarren was sentenced to six months in jail for an unrelated charge of lewd and lascivious behavior for exposing himself to a teenage neighbor in March. -
Dallas, Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Etc. Jazz & Other Concerts

Bill Frisell's at the Continental Club in Austin on Saturday and Sunday (2nd & 3rd), with a quartet - Eyvind Kang, Steve Moore, and Kenny Wolleson. I'd love to see that group - particularly Kang. I really liked his "Virginal Coordinates" from a couple of years ago. -
Well..... Terrell Owens and Pacman Jones have been going against each other quite a bit the past few days. I think that's only going to help Jones get back into competitive shape sooner. Terence Newman is out 3 weeks with a groin strain, but with the Cowboys sudden depth with cornerbacks (Pacman, Anthony Henry, Mike Jenkins, & Orlando Scandrick), I think it will actually be good to get some of the newer guys more practice time. My biggest concern for the team is at WR still. They never did address that position during the off season, and really go in with only TO and a few lesser players - Crayton, Sam Hurd, and Miles Austin. If T.O. gets injured and is out for any length of time (certainly possible for someone his age), there's alot of guys there who don't scare other teams. Jason Witten's still there as a GREAT tight end though. Dude on ESPN (Sal Palantonio I think) said today that Witten's the best TE in the league - I dunno if I'd go that far, but he's good.

Different strokes here, but I prefer the Song Remains the Same (particularly the new version with extra material). edit - and "How the West was Won". -
What's sad is that she has apparently chosen to deliberately alter her look, to become less "human" looking. So I don't know if "butchered" is quite the right word - it wasn't a plastic surgery gone wrong. Otherwise I agree with you.

I don't suppose it's any different than re-selling a legitimate CD that you've purchased, conceptually (assuming you did delete the original files). I'm not sure you'd ever convince anyone to buy a CD-R that you burned for $5, regardless of whether the music on it is "legitimate" or not. I don't think a CDR of burned music is going to have anywhere near the resale value of a real CD. Most people would assume it's probably either a copy of a legitimate CD, or music that you downloaded illegally somewhere.

Dave and Paul had some nice words for Hiram tonight.

I got my copy of Groovadelphia!
Aggie87 replied to Dan Gould's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
My copy arrived in today's mail! This thing is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys outdid yourselves (and the recording sounds superb too, Jim!). If another recording like this is the result, you have my permission to stay at Ron's house and raid his refrigerator again. -
It may not be a lost sale in your example, but it does result in somebody possessing something they have no legal right to possess. From that standpoint it's still theft. However, if the person that's doing all that downloading suddenly were no longer capable of doing so, he or she might suddenly resume purchasing recordings again. Maybe not on a 1 for 1 basis, but it seems clear they listened to some amount of music. So there may be some correlation with lost sales, even if it's 1 (lost sale) for 5 (illegal downloads) or something.

Unlike other threads (and signatures) where women are objectified here on the board, the pictures I posted seem (IMO) germane to the discussion in this thread- both the plastic-surgery lady and Madonna's daughter.

That's her daughter Lourdes. Looks like she has a Frida Kahlo unibrow thing going on too.
-
That may or may not be true - how would you ever prove that more people do this than just simply download and never purchase anything legitimately? It's anecdotal, and my suspicion is it's not the norm at all.

At least she hasn't gone this far yet...

I saw that and had pretty much the same reaction. It didn't click for me at all.

Thanks. I took a date to this movie last night (her choice of movies, not mine). I agree with SS, it was a bit too long. We were both restless toward the end. I think the same story could have been told just as effectively in 2 hours. I do think Ledger gave an excellent performance though, and Bale, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine were solid. The guy who played Dent was ok, and Maggie Gillenhall was ok I guess.
