  1. Man I had a bad week! Maybe I need to actually start thinking about these games.
  2. Wish I could - I'm flying into Philly on Friday, and we already have dinner plans and apparently I'm meeting a number of her friends later that evening. Thanks! If I were going to be there longer, I'd love to meet up with all of the NYC area board members! Unfortunately this trip isn't going to be longer. But if the relationship works out (and it has so far), I think I may be visiting up there a little more often.
  3. I don't really care for the Sweet Honey Bee cover either. It's too barren or plain or something, and not a good color. Kind of like this one:
  4. Thanks for all of the suggestions! If I were going by myself (or had a more "veteran" listener with me), I'd love to see Cecil Taylor. I'm just not sure my friend would enjoy that one so much. I'm interested in sharing some of the music I like with her to see how she'll respond. Plus, I don't get to NYC very often obviously, so I'd love to see something I'd enjoy as well. Maybe the Cecil would be a good test to see how she can handle things! I think I'm narrowing it down to either the Charlie Haden gig or the Blakey tribute. GA - I like Bireli Lagrene's Gypsy Project recordings - you should check them out if you're interested in current Reinhart-style music.
  5. Living Loving Maid D'yer Mak'er The Ocean Fool in the Rain
  6. Long story short - looks like I'm going to be in New York on Saturday Nov 8th. Actually going to southern NJ to visit a friend of mine for the weekend, and she wanted to take me into the city on Saturday. I had talked her into going to see Jim Hall at the Village Vanguard that night, but now that show's been cancelled. Cecil Taylor is playing there instead, I believe. I don't know if she's ready for Taylor, LOL. I don't know if he's doing a solo show or a band, either. Anybody know what else is going on that night that might be interesting? Looks like Charlie Haden's Liberation Orchestra is playing at the Blue Note.
  7. Jacob Young - Sideways (ECM) Traincha - The Look of Love: Burt Bacharach Songbook (Blue Note) Traincha - Who'll Speak for You: Burt Bacharach Songbook II (Blue Note) Melody Gardot - Worrisome Heart (Verve) Never heard of Traincha or Gardot before, I guess they're the current "next big things" on their respective labels?
  8. That's an understatement! Brad Johnson looked AWFUL with 3 ints, and a spaghetti arm, Marion Barber fumbled, Roy Willliams was O fer, TO had no impact. On D they couldn't stop the run or the passing attack of the mighty Rams. Granted, the following starters or key players are all gone right now: Tony Romo Kyle Kosier Matt McBriar - for year Sam Hurd - for year Felix Jones Roy Williams (the other one) - for year Terence Newman Pacman Jones - for year (?) That's alot of secondary starters missing, but still no reason to play as poorly as they have on D.
  9. By the way, there's already a thread on this release here (which JMJK started, despite my post being the first), though parts of it are typical arguing between some of us.
  10. I've had this one for a while and like it. Didn't know it had been one of the reissues. I lived in Stuttgart for 5 years and loved it. There was a good, frequent "Cd Boerse" (record/cd convention) in Ludwigsburg that I used to go to all the time there. Ludwigsburg also has a beautiful baroque palace from the 1700's:
  11. Happy Birthday, Chris!
  12. GA - I recommend using the codes fairly quickly when they're posted, I don't know how long they last. Four more - each is for one free cd: C8E1 C8E2 C8E3 C8E4
  13. bump... Bill Watrous is in town this weekend for the Texas Jazz Festival. His was actually about the only name I recognized on the schedule (despite the name, it's more of a local/regional/state musician thing than bigger, more well known names, for the most part). Bill's playing with the San Gabriel 7. I may try to get down there tonight or tomorrow night, but I don't know if my kids will be able to handle an evening of jazz (yet).
  14. Coupla ECM's: Jon Balke - Book of Velocities Marilyn Mazur/Jan Garbarek - Elixir Ketil Bjornstad/Terje Rypdal - Life in Leipzig
  15. Giovanni Tommaso?
  16. There's a companion piece, "Another Shade of Blue", with the same lineup. I don't think I have these titles anymore, but I thought they were from the same performance. AMG/Ken Dryden says ASoB was recorded a year later at the same venue.
  17. So when Safety Roy Williams returns to active status in a couple of weeks, are both of their jerseys going to say "Roy Williams" on them? Has a team ever had two players with the same name before? And Conn, I think I may agree with you. Detroit did well in this trade. I don't know if Williams was worth a 1st and 3rd. Probably just a 1st.
  18. Jeez - never a dull moment in Cowboy-land. They just picked up Detroit WR Roy Williams, for a 1st, 3rd ,& 6th Rd pick in next year's draft. I don't think Brad Johnson will be able to get him the ball either, just like he won't be able to get it to T.O.
  19. Tell you what, you buy an Organissimo CD, and I'll buy a Tori Amos CD. Deal?
  20. That's going to make things interesting in Dallas. As if underperforming weren't enough, now they've got to hand the offense over to Brad Johnson for the next month. I hope his jello arm can get the ball to T.O., or things could get ugly real quick. In addition to Romo being out for a month, Felix Jones is out for a bit, Sam Hurd is out for the year, and punter Matt McBriar is out for the year with a broken foot (from that kick attempt in overtime). In addition to Roy Williams being out, and Terence Newman being out. Man, that's alot of starters and contributors there. Plus one.

  23. Sloppy AZ/Dal game today. Romo had fumble-itis today, and didn't seem sharp, despite throwing for over 300 yards. No real long passes though, mostly dump offs and things. At least he didn't have an INT today I guess. Cowboys got lucky to tie it at the end of regulation. Got the ball down to about the 40 with 3 seconds left, to attempt a 57 yard game-tying FG. But one of the Cards didn't get to the line of scrimmage in time and the Cards were assessed a 5 yard penalty, helping the Cowboys out. Then the Cards coach called a timeout on the FG attempt, which got blocked and would have given the Cards the game. Nick Folk made the second FG to tie and send the game into OT. Then the Cowboys go 3 and out, and the punt gets blocked and walked into the endzone for the game winning score. Aargh.
