No, but it's been a whole week without a PacMan Jones incident. Oh wait, never mind. His posse fired shots at an Atlanta strip club last night....again.

Well, from the squirrel's POV, Mission Accomplished. No need to go back to THAT particular building. How far is two blocks in squirrel paces?

Sport: 2007 NBA Play-Offs Pool

Phoenix has a championship caliber team right now, without any trades. They battled it out with San Antonio better than anyone else in the playoffs, and I think their series could have easily gone 7 games without the suspensions. If they could somehow make this trade happen, they'd have to be considered the odds-on favorite next season. Again, assuming Kobe can play team ball. -

On Thursday, one sold on Ebay for $100, and another for $157. Then yesterday one was sold for $85.00 on a "Buy It Now". edited for mangled sentence. -

So we agree Parker deserved tme MVP and that team defense is what really mattered. We disagree on how important Bowen's contribution was to the latter (while recognizing that he did contribute). Bowen, Duncan, Parker--who do you let go? Tough call - I don't like the question. I would never get rid of Duncan, so it would be either Parker or Bowen. Which would be easier to replace? The best one-on-one perimeter defender in the NBA or a great point guard? Based on their respective ages, I'd probably keep Parker. But if age wasn't a factor, I'd very possibly keep Bowen and replace Parker. I think Popovich could develop another point guard easier than he could get someone who's willing to do what Bowen's done. -

Parker didn't score all the points in any of the four wins vs. Cleveland, it was a team effort. By your logic, Parker doesn't deserve the MVP either. I think Parker deserved the MVP though. I think Bowen was worthy of consideration for it, for his significant contribution to their championship, but I'll still agree that team defense is really what sets the Spurs apart. -

I have kind of bought into the logic regarding Bowen. Maybe he didn't single-handedly shut down LeBron, but throughout the entire playoffs this year, he has been responsible for defending the best player on the opposing team. He consistently prevented any of them from dominating a series at all. I think he's underrated in this regard, but that's probably because so many people don't like him due to his reputation as a dirty player. But stepping back, I can easily see it's the teamwork, the team defense that got it done in this series, and throughout the playoffs. It's the trademark of the Spurs, and has been since Pop's been the coach there. -

Team defense won this for the Spurs: Actually, Popovich was probably mad at the fifth Spur for not being on LBJ too. -

You should turn your tv back on. Cavs have the lead. -

Is there some irony in that Shaq - of all people - is doing a show about trying to help overweight kids get in shape? His weigh issues have caused him to miss alot of basketball over his career. I applaud the effort though - hopefully it's more about really helping than it is about publicity. -

Looks like the last few on Ebay have gone for about $90-$125 or so (with one lucky Buy-It-Now of $49.99), so I'd agree that $200 is on the high side. There's one on Amazon for $49.99 too....IF you don't mind the fact that it's missing Discs 7 & 8. -

Concord Shutting Fantasy Down and Burying its Tapes?
Aggie87 replied to RDK's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I'm not as worried about the actual storage of the material at Iron Mountain as I am that this may be a sign that we can give up hoping for new reissues of things that we'd all like to see. It looks to me almost like they want to lock this material up for a few years, not reissue much, and then hope to sell the Fantasy catalog off to another buyer a few years down the line. -
Very interesting news: Due August 28th: 40th Anniversary Edition of Piper at the Gates of Dawn. 2 editions - a 2cd set, and a 3cd Deluxe Edition.

I agree, he's been much more effective in that position that Nesterovic was previously. Elson's decent there too. Little Known Oberto Facts -

Not sure if that merits an MVP, but he has been doing a great job. LeBron's shooting at around 35% this series. That's abysmal. Guy I am going back and forth on the thought about Bowen & MVP, but shutting down LBJ has been the key to the series. Nobody else on their team is that dangerous. His defense has contributed significantly to their winning this series, maybe as much as Parker (the probable MVP) has done on offense. Bowen's definitely had alot of team help though against LeBron, no doubt. MVPs are usually offensive stars though, like the Heisman is usually given to a QB or RB 99% of the time. So it's probably doubtful Bowen will get it. -

Be careful, maybe they'll take it again next year! Assuming they win this year, that will make 3 of the last 5, and 4 of the last 9. I don't know if that's dynasty material or not, but it's pretty impressive. -
Yes, I recall that a number of events in Stuttgart were also sponsored in the same manner, when I lived there. The LBBW (Landesbank Baden Wurttemburg) sponsored a number of performances, for instance. Concerts and tours and so forth are sponsored here in the U.S. for big acts, typically the rock n roll stuff, and even Coca Cola sponsors Dizzy's Club at the Lincoln Center (unfortunately). What's still curious to me is advertising on CD packaging in general. I guess I'm thankful that it hasn't gotten to the point where Coca Cola and Marlboro logos are plastered all over the lastest Verve & EMI releases.

Both teams played superb defense (that's the optimistic description of the game, anyway). The Spurs' outside shooting was solid, and bailed out their stars sub-par performances, at least enough to get the W. Also, Ilgauskas had about 17 offensive rebounds on one play early in the game, I think. He and Gooden both stepped up their games. I think Bowen is worthy of MVP consideration for how he's played LBJ this series, despite the rest of American hating him. -
Maybe Cecil Taylor could record an album for slugs - "Salty, Swift, and GOODBYE". Ok, that was terrible, sorry.

Not sure how the Spurs won that game tonight. Ginobili didn't do much of anything, and both Parker and Duncan didn't play as well as they had in the previous two games. Credit the Cleveland defense for stepping it up, for sure! LeBron was fouled on the last play, but (for me) it was hard to tell whether it was in the act of shooting or before. Bowen's intent was obviously to foul him before shooting, which would mean only 2 free throws, and game over pretty much. Too bad it was a no-call. edit - if they had called it in the act of shooting, and awarded LBJ three free throws, would have been VERRRRY interesting to see if he would have made all of them, with his percentage. -
Happy Birthday!

How many times cam Blue Note rehash the same material?
Aggie87 replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Discography
Not as I recall. Pretty sure it was released before Let It Be. The "Hey Jude" compilation album was released on 26 Feb 1970 in the U.S., and not until 1979 in the U.K. The "Let It Be" album was recorded in January 1969 and released on 8 May 1970. So Jim's correct that Hey Jude came out first. The Beatles broke up in late '69 or not long thereafter. Per Wikipedia: Hard to say if they were officially broken up when the "Hey Jude" compilation was released or not. Effectively they probably were. -
