  1. I know it's early for March Madness yet, but since we don't have an NCAA hoops thread for this season, I figured it's time to start one. I just got done enjoying two great Texas A&M victories back to back in the last 48 hours. They beat #6 Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday night 69-66, after clawing their way back from a 11 point deficit late in the 2nd half. A&M guard Acie Law had a great game against Kansas' best player, Brandon Rush, sinking the go ahead 3 pointer with 20 something seconds left in the game. Then tonight they beat #22 Texas at home tonight 100-82, in a game that was alot closer than the final score made it look like. A&M had two starters foul out early, and Acie Law went out with an ankle injury for a bit, but they played their trademark defense and came through with a great win. Texas has a GREAT freshman in Kevin Durant, who could possibly be the first pick in the NBA draft after his freshman year in college. Limiting him to 28 points tonight seemed like an accomplishment. The guy can score from anywhere on the court. I'm still in shock that A&M has turned into a basketball force. Three years ago they went 0-16 in the Big 12, and that was the norm. Now they're ranked #6, and are 20-3 and in first place in the Big 12. They could easily get ranked higher after tonight's win. I think they're a legitimate Final 4 contender at this point.
  2. Who are all these new people? Come join the rest of the board!
  3. Esbjorn Terje Trygve Actually, these actually shouldn't probably count, as they are probably a bit more common in Norway/Sweden than the rest of the world... edit - is "Bobo" actualy Stenson's given name?
  4. I bet you need to chisel it out first, that's the secret!
  5. I think things were going the way the Bears wanted until they got to the point that they had to put it on Grossman's arm. It let them down. How much of that is due to the weather I don't know. Congrats to the Colts and their fans! Classy game for the most part, too. PS - Billy Joel's National Anthem didn't do much for me. Prince was ok at halftime, though I think it wasn't his best performance either. He can still rock though!
  6. Gatorade is a sport drink that supposedly is good for hydrating you, and is high in electrolytes and carbohydrates. It originated at the University of Florida (nickname Gators) , so was called Gatorade.
  7. That's a cool picture!
  8. Great, just great. Thanks.
  9. I was browsing through the Jan/Feb Zweitausendeins catalog this evening, and noticed something very interesting (to me anyway). Membran is apparently now selling MP3 CD's of material that is public domain in Europe. There are a number of jazz and classical MP3 CDs they are selling for €9.99. One is a 1951-1956 Miles Davis disc, with 90 tracks on it. The Nat King Cole CD (1939-1953) has 203 tracks. They advertise that the individual discs are crammed with up to 11 hours of music. Is this a test to see if the market is there for selling MP3 CDs, or is this more common that I realize? I'm not interested in these personally, just find it interesting that they are now being marketed and sold this way. A quick visit to Membran's site shows the packaging on these, as well.
  10. Um, there weren't any trio tracks on Metheny|Mehldau.
  11. For 70's stuff, the Live at Montreux solo recording is very good too, IMO. As is Blue Black.
  12. I don't think it would be next, but I like Smokestack.
  13. The Quartet tracks on the last disc were with Larry Grenadier & Jeff Ballard. I believe the new release was recorded at the same time as the last one.
  14. bump..... Per Musictap: Looking forward to the quartet release. I assume The Complete Sessions is simply a packaging of the previous Metheny|Mehldau release, and the quartet one.
  15. I bet it was Spinal Tap sized.
  16. I think their CD's used to have different packaging than "normal". Like maybe only black and white covers?
  17. Kobe suspended 1 game for punchin out Ginobili....
  18. Chuck, do you have any animals??? I have animals, but I have to admit, getting broken up over a horse I never met is a bit beyond me. Just callous, I guess... I bet you'll be in tears the day Bullwinkle passes though.
  19. The only Bley I'm aware of with Scofield is "Hot", which is on Soul Note. I like it. I don't have Warren's "Solidarity", but according to allmusic, it's on "Japo". edit - I guess that qualifies as an ECM recording though, as much as an Xtra Watt release.
  20. A minor point, but the Trio Beyond isn't the first time Sco's been on ECM. He's played on three Marc Johnson recordings for ECM as well. (edit - he was also on Steve Swallow's "Swallow", if that counts as an ECM date). I saw the Ray Charles project live, and it was a very solid show. As you said, bluesy and basic.
  21. Toumani Diabate - Boulevard De I'Independence Ali Farka Toure - Savane Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels On a Gravel Road (2 cd Deluxe Edition) Phish - Live in Brooklyn (3cd) Tori Amos - The Piano: A Collection (5 cd)
  22. ....never heard of a flat St. Pauli girl!
