I don't understand this. I don't know much about his discography, but he recorded an all-Jobim CD, "Falando de Amor" (it's on Venus) way back in 2003. I think GA means it is his debut ECM leader recording, that's my guess.

Greatest Hits 2 has some great stuff as well. That's where you'll find "Levon," "Tiny Dancer," Elton's versions of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "Pinball Wizard," "Island Girl," "I Feel Like A Bullet From The Gun Of Robert Ford," and "Philadelphia Freedom." Or you could just get the albums from that era. They really are great. "Hold me close now Tony Danza"

It's not really a jazz festival, the organizers know it. But it's got some 'cache' to call it a jazz festival. And people (who aren't jazz fans) who think they're too old to go to rock concerts can attend this and feel alright about it. It's for the people who used to go to keg parties, but now that they've gotten older and more responsible, they like to go to wine tastings instead. That's one thought, anyway.

What records disappointed your expectations?
Aggie87 replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Aggie, not to nitpick, and this will I think prove your point even more, but Emergency was not released on Verve but rather on Phillips' new US rock label Polydor. (Polydor had long existed in Britain.) I remember that the first three releases of that label were John Mayall's The Turning Point (his first after he left Decca/London), Manfred Mann Chapter Three (my favorite at that time!; the band's first album) and Emergency (The Tony Williams Lifetime's first album). So as you can see, the record company's point of view was commercial - going after the college market. And as I recall Emergency got plenty of promotional support in the magazines. Thx GA. I actually just pulled the CD off the shelf and checked the spine, I should have done my homework better. -

I dig all three! -
Circumscription? Vox Populi? Dispositive? I'm gonna go back to drinking my Old Milwaukee, while Googling these words. i did: Circumscription: membership to "Moyl Monthly" magazine. Vox Populi: when father tells an untruth. Dispositive: colloquial put-down without being negative.

If my 5 yr old son starts listening to Merzbau (sic), Wilco, Bjork, and the Velvet Underground, I wouldn't have a problem with that. However, if he acquires a sudden interest in Clay Aiken and Boy George, there might be something amiss. -
is that a beer bottle dropping on Grant's version of "God Ble

You used words like commercial, palatable, and boring. I don't agree with commercial or boring, but am undecided on more palatable, since I don't have all of Lifetime's recordings to compare against. ECM is hardly a more commercial label than Verve, which is what the Lifetime Emergency release was on. -
Cowboys have hired Jason Garrett in some capacity, either Offensive Coordinator, or possibly head coach. Talk about one extreme to the other, if he's HC - going from Parcells to someone who's never even been an OC or DC. He was Dallas' backup QB years ago, and apparently is held in high regard by Jerry Jones, among others. He was Miami's QB coach last year. ***** Sources: Cowboys pick Garrett, but role is undecided According to knowledgeable sources, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has decided to hire Jason Garrett at least to be Dallas' offensive coordinator -- and possibly to be the successor to retired head coach Bill Parcells. A source told ESPN's Ed Werder on Wednesday night that Jones considers Garrett -- a former backup to quarterback Troy Aikman -- to be one of the most promising offensive coaches in the league and was so determined to bring him back to the Cowboys organization that he would have been added to Parcells' staff had Parcells decided to coach the final year of his contract. Instead, Parcells stepped down Monday after four seasons with the Cowboys, ending a 19-year coaching tenure that included two Super Bowl champoinships with the New York Giants. Jones must decide by Thursday whether to hire Garrett as offensive coordinator because the Miami Dolphins set a deadline for the Cowboys to hire their quarterbacks coach when granting the Cowboys permission to interview Garrett. The Cowboys could appoint Garrett offensive coordinator to secure his services while eliminating the Dolphins from the equation. Then Jones could deliberate whether to appoint him as the head coach later after interviews with other head-coaching candidates, primarily San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator Wade Phillips or San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Norv Turner. Ultimately, Jones must decide whether he's willing to sign a veteran coach to a three- or four-year contract to allow Garrett to gain experience as a play-caller before eventually promoting him to the top job. Or, Jones may decide he's willing to endure the risk of immediately putting a talented Cowboys team in Garrett's hands now. Garrett spent the last two seasons coaching Miami's quarterbacks. He played for the Cowboys from 1993-99, appearing in 23 games (nine starts). He also played for the Giants, Tampa Bay and Miami. Garrett retired in 2004. Garrett's father, Jim, was a longtime scout for the Cowboys. The Cowboys haven't had an offensive coordinator since Maruice Carthon served in that role under Parcells in 2004. This season, assistant head coach Tony Sparano coached running backs and the offensive line and receivers coach Todd Haley was the passing game coordinator. Jones earlier this week spoke to Sparano, Haley and secondary coach Todd Bowles, a candidate to replace Mike Zimmer as defensive coordinator, about the head coaching job. Phillips, who was in Mobile scouting Senior Bowl practices, said he hadn't heard from anybody yet, including the Cowboys. "If it's true, we'll just go on with the process and see what happens," Phillips told The Associated Press by telephone. "I've got a great job where I am and a great football team. I wasn't looking for anything, but I've always wanted to do what I can do as a head coach, and Dallas is certainly a premier job." The Cowboys have declared that finding the coaches who can develop young Pro Bowl quarterback Tony Romo is a point of emphasis in replacing Parcells.

Uh... did you have the volume up? Have to disagree with "limp, uninspired, and utterly boring", but different strokes. I think this is a great performance, and it gets better every time I play it. I think even people who don't care much for Scofield would be impressed with his playing on this. -
The same seller has Jane Monheit's "The Season" available for that same price. I bought that one at a going-out-of-business sale for $1.50 a year ago. Maybe I should put it up on Ebay for $500, try and undercut this guy. Heck, mine's a dual-disc I think, maybe I should ask $600!

I think you'll find the majority of regular posters here DON'T make comments about AAJ. Like any other group, there are a few people who are more outspoken than the rest, and a few that will gladly share their opinion about anything. I post at both boards, but don't find as much that interests me there. I do like to read some of the reviews on AAJ, though that's separate from the board itself. AAJ used to not allow any mention of this board, or links to it. Has that changed recently? -

Wow, that's a bit harsh. I think he has done more for the Cowboys than either of those two. I think at the very least he's toughened them up mentally (with the exception of Bird Brain Owens). I will say I think he's better at acquiring talent than he is as a game day coach.
