I would also like to see Joe Harriott's 'Movement' and 'High Spirits' out on CD but I guess both of these would be minor miracles too. Sorry, I don't know any more than anyone else about what Vocalion are going to release, but I'd be very surprised if 'Hum Dono' is included. But it would be nice if it were......

I might be tempted to get the three CD set. I've been replaying the original A&M/Horizon album this afternoon and it really is very good. Lots of standards for people 'not-to-like'.

I'd have gotten the full 2-CD set myself, but that and Routes (on Artist Share!) are the two to get if you want the best possible first impression. Just know that her music seems to be one of those things that people either really, really like, or else just shrug and say "huh?" about. But those songs... Thanks, Jim. I'll listen to "Four Seasons" before deciding whether to get anything else.

LTB & I put in $500.00 on one of Monday Michiru's AS projects, pre-production. Wish it could have been 4-5 times that, because even with everything being "self-contained" these days, shit still costs money. She wanted to do more with horns, more with post-production, but the money was just not there. She still made a damn fine album, and if you didn't know better, you'd just think she was being "minimalist" in her production. But the business reality is that she did the most she could with what she had. That wasn't nearly as much an artistic choice as it was a financial necessity. I have seen Monday Michiru's name mentioned before on this board but I'm ashamed to say that I have never heard anything by her. To remedy this I have just put an order in for her "Four Seasons" compilation album. Please don't tell me this is not the one I should have ordered!

I really dig the Helen Merrill/Dick Katz version of Lonely Woman. i'm lucky enough to own the katz merrill. there is a stunning early to mid 1960s version of lonely woman with a denny zeitlin-charlie haden-(i forget the drummer)- trio(my shining hour), if you can find it. the whole recording is a study in understated intelligent eloquence. a fresher less tired trio version of quiet now is on the same recording. 8 wilkerson's 8 bold souls recorded a stunning version of lonely woman with wilkerson offering a blistering alto solo. The album you're referring to is "Denny Zeitlin - Live at The Trident" and yes, his version of Lonely Woman is lovely; as is the whole album, actually. BTW the drummer is Jerry Granelli. The 1960's were a real purple patch for Denny as can be heard from his playing on the Mosaic Select set and this album reinforces this opinion. Unfortunately the album itself appears to be OOP at present, which is a shame. However I seem to recall reading somewhere (here?) that he was putting together another box set of his live 1960s recordings so presumably this would be included in that.

Saw the Marcus Roberts Trio playing at The Sage in Gateshead on Saturday, with Roland Guerin on bass & Jason Marsalis on drums. They started with a selection of Cole Porter numbers and finished with three Coltrane tunes from "Crescent". An excellent concert at a very good venue.

BARGAIN! Indeed - the place of origin can't have helped, I guess, for this sale. I see he's selling all his medals as well!

Does anyone know whether his album 'Hannibal' recorded in July, 1975 and released by MPS in the same year has ever had a CD release? There seemed to be a steady stream of re-issues by MPS a few years ago but I can't remember seeing anything from them for some time now.

Just to second (third?) what's already been said about these two albums - they really are both very good. Although I'm not normally too keen on the flute as a jazz instrument I must say that Lloyd McNeill's playing here is excellent, as is the drumming of Eric/Robert Gravatt. However the musician that I think comes over best is the pianist, (Eu)Gene Rush. I must admit that his is a name I'm not familiar with. It seems he has been a Jazz Professor at The University of Memphis for 23 years. Does anyone know whether he is on any other recordings other than these two with Lloyd McNeill?

Ah, that's sad news about Dave's wife. I guess that answers my question as to why he's not been around much recently. Thanks for all your posts, guys.

It must nine months or so by now since Dave Holland cancelled a gig I was going to at Ronnie Scott's Club because of his wife's illness. Since then I've heard nothing. Does anyone know what's happening? His website doesn't seem to have had anything posted to it since 2010 and I've not noticed any news of live gigs recently. I'm hoping for the best but fearing the worst.
