  1. This one came out last year with Zoot Sims playing with the Joe Castro Trio; recorded at Falcon's Lair on April 1, 1956 ... and very good it is too!
  2. Like Kevin I have used them without any problems and also like Kevin I now use Hiroshi. He's usually cheaper overall and his servive is second to none. My latest order was posted on a Friday and arrived on my doorstep the following Tuesday - beat that!
  3. It's funny but I've been playing rather a lot of his music recently, including most of his OJC titles. He is a very underated musician mainly, I think, because he plays so many different instruments. I prefer his tenor playing myself. I too wish that the rest of the Savoy titles would get released although I'm very happy with what I already have on 'The last Savoy Sessions'. I'm also very fond of 'Before dawn' on Verve which was released as a limited issue some years ago is now quite difficult to find. However I understand that it is due to be re-released in Japan sometime in October. Finally, having recently read the 'House that Trane built' I managed to locate copies of the two 'Live at Pep's' albums which seem to be the Impulse recordings that most reviewers prefer. If I enjoy those then I will probably go for the other Impulse recordings that are available.
  4. Yes.
  5. Only sometimes?
  6. A few days ago I suddenly noticed that my emusic connection had changed from a US based site to one with with 'UK' in the title. I then received an e-mail telling me about the launch of the UK site and saying that my subscription would continue as before so there was no need to worry. However today I decided to buy a booster pack and suddenly the price of them has changed from $ to £! So now a 50 track booster pack has risen from $14.99 or about £8.25, to £13.99, an increase of about 70%! What a con! So in future I'll be confining my downloads to my monthly contract and keeping a very close eye on what I get charged each month!
  7. Yes, I've been using it today. However I noticed a few days ago that the log-in process changed. Now when I log-in, instead of showing the normal home page, the system goes back to the log-in page. This seemed to coincide with the launch of the UK site, so perhaps there is a slight problem somewhere.
  8. I've searched for this but can't find it. Has it been removed or is just not available to us poor relations in the UK?
  9. Bought in error because I didn't realise it was already on my Oliver Nelson Mosaic Set - Duh! Beautiful recording with a gatefold sleeve - unplayed. £13 post free. Prefer cheque if buyer in UK otherwise it has to be Paypal. PM if interested.
  10. Reading this review, the phrase '....like watching paint dry' comes to mind
  11. Here is my current batch of vinyl (+ 1 CD) for sale: Vinyl for sale
  12. It's shown on their website as being 'unavailable due to a problem with a photograph' - whatever that means! Futura Records Edit: I've just read Brownie's earlier post - so everything's as clear as mud!

BTW it seems that you can now order direct from the company using Paypal. Has anyone any experience of doing this because I have had difficulty in the past with getting anyone to respond to my e-mails?
  14. I think it's very unlikely to get re-released. Both the vinyl and CD versions were released many years ago by 'Mole Jazz' which is the name of a great jazz shop that used to trade in London. However the owner Ed Dipple died some years ago and the shop gradually went downhill until it finally closed a year or so ago. So it is anyone's guess where the masters are now. There is a similar issue with another recording on Mole Jazz by Bobby Jaspar called 'The Bobby Jaspar Quartet', again recorded at Ronnie Scott's Club, this time in January 1962. When it was re-issued on CD it contained additional tracks from those on the LP but like the Art Pepper some of the tracks on the LP were missing from the CD. Therefore there are some further tracks that could be added to make up a double CD. However both CDs contain what I consider to be the best tracks from the LPs so is there a problem? BTW the track 'Make a list, make a wish' from 'Blues for the fisherman' is probably my favourite 'late' Art Pepper track and always reminds me of the time I saw him playing at Ronnie Scott's in the summer of 1980 - the same summer that this recording was made.
  15. It can't be Wynton, his mouth's shut.
  16. .......whilst sitting on the dock of the bay?
  17. I don't like to disagree with Brownie but I was very dissappointed with this release. The music's OKish, not up to Walt's best, I feel - but the sound is very poor with all but the vibes muffled/lost in the mix. It's something I've noticed on a number of Fresh Sounds releases so I can only assume they must have used either an old master tape or perhaps, heaven forbid!, taken it from 'other sources'. It would be interesting to hear from someone who has the original LPs as to whether the sound was OK on them.
  18. Two recordings by The Dudley Moore Trio have appeared on emusic: Dudley Moore Does anyone know anything about them? Are they worth downloading?
  19. Does anyone know why the Jazzmatazz website hasn't been updated since 26 June? This used to be one of my prime sources for finding out what was being released and I miss it! BTW the site mentioned that the 'Horace Silver - Doin' the thing' RVG was due to be released in August/September. Does anyone have a confirmed date for when it will be available?
  20. Amazon.com has a used copy for $14.96. Doesn't say whether its 'BMG' or not. Amazon.com
  21. Yep - downloaded mine today! I've only played it once but it sounds great. Whilst most of the tunes are already available on the original 'Keystone' CD this seems to be one of the times when the 'live' versions sound as good as, or perhaps even better than, the studio ones. It is taken from a live broadcast by Swedish Radio and is very well recorded with all the instruments up front in the mix. Dave Douglas has never sounded better! If you liked the 'Live at Bimhuis' then I'm sure you'll like this one. For $7.99 it's a steal!
  22. I seem to remember that someone was asking recently whether the new Kenny Wheeler on Cam Jazz had been released yet. Well, it's currently available either as a download or CD from the Sunnyside records website: Sunnyside Records
