  1. The Blakey/Moody is great, IMHO. The stuff is from 78's originally, but it sounds pretty good. Dave Burns on trumpet in the Moody sections, which comprise tracks 1-9. 10-14 are Blakey w/ Kenny Dorham on trumpet, an alto, bari, tenor, trombone. I'd recommend it, fer sure!
  2. Hmmm.... maybe I'll unload all 4 of my Reece BN's on ebay, and hopefully earn enough to get 'em both!.... B)
  3. I'd say Bill Hicks...but the kids.
  4. Just that it's a bitch to find!
  5. What has hit more balls than Arnold Palmer? Liberace's necklace.
  6. You might not "own" the music, but you do own the cd/lp/sacd/dvd or whatever media. So if you'd rather that your family acted responsibly when selling it, or in a more informed way...you're not doing anything but trying to help them maximize those assets. I don't see what is so trivial about wanting to insure that your family will be more comfortable after you're gone.
  7. Herb Wong's are a good read, Mingus' wrote some far-out shit, and Keepnews. Albertson, too.
  8. Yankees win it all... people will claim it's not fair...they will eventually get over it.
  9. I just nabbed it. First I'll give it a listen, and then either hang on to it, or put it up for grabs for $8 plus shipping. Over and out!
  10. What the F&%$ is a Kaiser Blade?!!
  11. If anyone is looking for this BN Rare Groove, drop me a PM. I just saw it used for $6 or $8.00!
  12. Oh, Yes. The reference to math w/r/t this tune drove it home. I've been listening to J.C.'s many alternate takes from the Atlantic box and it occurs to me that he probably sat down and worked through (very methodically) all of the possible permutations and patterns when blowin' over this. But his ability to put this out in such a moving way, and with so much variety...makes me want to put in the time. At least some time.
  13. Makes sense. My teacher (Darrell Grant, a MoFo) had us playing it as a Bossa Nova, a la Pat Metheny, but soon decided that to swing it would be better. . Now it's just about getting past the point of playing his suggestions and patterns and coming up w/ something unique and thoughtful. And not sounding like !! Thanks, Jim!
  14. It's time to tackle this bad-boy in my improv. class. I get the form, patterns like 3-5-1, 1-2-3-5, 8-7-b7-8, etc., but when it's played at tempo. I'm trying to find ways to not sound like a pattern generator. Besides the obvious solution (practice, ", "), I'm wondering if any of you seasoned pupils of this artform have any empirical suggestions?
  15. No Worries. She's over at my place organizing my cd's. I'll have her call the clinic as soon as she's finished! B)
  16. The 200 ones are pop-ups. I can't get past 322.9. Damnit!
  17. Welcome to the squad, A-Rod!
  18. Conn, which mutes rub you wrong? Miles rarely used a "plunger" mute, but he used a harmon. I don't take offense, but an across-the-board dismissal of trumpet mutes will surely invite the need for some clarification, given the amount of mutes that exist and variety of tonal characteristics that they bring. Playing the trumpet myself, I'd like to hear about this distaste!!! ...
  19. No lack of love here for the Mighty B.T.!
  20. Hey Dmitry--no worries....I more or less put it up for sale to everyone... so whoever the first "I'll take it" comes from...gets it. Matt
  21. Up for sale @ $13.00 including U.S.P.S. shipping. Sheldonm, I Pm'd you.
  22. The LINGERIE Bowl was really amusing, but also really annoying. We placed the pay-per-view order right before halftime of the real game, and then all that they showed during that segment was a bunch of interviews with a couple of coke-heads that organized the event. And then when it came time for the game, I only got to see a little bit of it. The images that stand out are a bunch of models bending over in their panties at the line of scrimmage. There was one <sort of> fight between a couple girls, which drew a few chuckles. Angie Everhardt was punishingly annoying, but also really hot. It was love and hate.
  23. I'm just pissed to have missed the tit episode because my friends and I were watching the much ballyhooed "Lingerie Bowl". I guess I don't have to add a moral assessment.
