  1. Gotta disagree with ya' there, Kari. Even the guy in your avatar thinks Mick Jagger is a motherfucker. He said so in an interview about his musical debates w/ Wynton. Wankers?!?!
  2. Good Question. I'm still pondering unloading my BN TOCJ's/Jrvg's, if it gets good sound reports.
  3. That IS a great album. Someone should swoop!
  4. Dave Matthews couldn't grate much harder on my nerves. I remember hearing him for the first time, in my ex-wife's car...driving down to the courthouse to sign our divorce papers. I couldn't say anything because it was an emotional day, but it really felt like someone was taking a big explosive dump in my ears.
  5. I saw a vinyl copy of a Blakey record by the name of (something like) "Theme from Golden Boy", "Sountrack from Golden Boy" or some shit. Mogie was on it, but it was too expensive for me. Anyone hip to this one? Maybe it had Gilmore, too.
  6. How'z bout Wayne Shorter, or Herbie Nichols? or Trane?
  7. They look like the Time/Life Giants of Jazz lp box sets.
  8. I always thought that Hugh McCracken played that solo. But WTF, I could be wrong!??!
  9. I second that emotion!
  10. Donald Byrd "Groovin for Nat" also features Johnny Coles. It has some really good blowin'.
  11. My, what an O.C.D. bunch we are, us collectors...I think we could dedicate a whole category to categorization.
  12. It is on hold at my local co-op. $8 plus shipping if anyone needs it. Rare groove BN, I believe, with Shirley Scott. I have the lp. PM me.
  13. The Blakey/Moody is great, IMHO. The stuff is from 78's originally, but it sounds pretty good. Dave Burns on trumpet in the Moody sections, which comprise tracks 1-9. 10-14 are Blakey w/ Kenny Dorham on trumpet, an alto, bari, tenor, trombone. I'd recommend it, fer sure!
  14. Hmmm.... maybe I'll unload all 4 of my Reece BN's on ebay, and hopefully earn enough to get 'em both!.... B)
  15. I'd say Bill Hicks...but the kids.
  16. Just that it's a bitch to find!
  17. What has hit more balls than Arnold Palmer? Liberace's necklace.
  18. You might not "own" the music, but you do own the cd/lp/sacd/dvd or whatever media. So if you'd rather that your family acted responsibly when selling it, or in a more informed way...you're not doing anything but trying to help them maximize those assets. I don't see what is so trivial about wanting to insure that your family will be more comfortable after you're gone.
  19. Herb Wong's are a good read, Mingus' wrote some far-out shit, and Keepnews. Albertson, too.
  20. Yankees win it all... people will claim it's not fair...they will eventually get over it.
  21. I just nabbed it. First I'll give it a listen, and then either hang on to it, or put it up for grabs for $8 plus shipping. Over and out!
  22. What the F&%$ is a Kaiser Blade?!!
  23. If anyone is looking for this BN Rare Groove, drop me a PM. I just saw it used for $6 or $8.00!
  24. Oh, Yes. The reference to math w/r/t this tune drove it home. I've been listening to J.C.'s many alternate takes from the Atlantic box and it occurs to me that he probably sat down and worked through (very methodically) all of the possible permutations and patterns when blowin' over this. But his ability to put this out in such a moving way, and with so much variety...makes me want to put in the time. At least some time.
  25. Makes sense. My teacher (Darrell Grant, a MoFo) had us playing it as a Bossa Nova, a la Pat Metheny, but soon decided that to swing it would be better. . Now it's just about getting past the point of playing his suggestions and patterns and coming up w/ something unique and thoughtful. And not sounding like !! Thanks, Jim!
