  1. For the uninitiated, try this masterpiece on for size, then proceed to Callier's "Dancing Girl" if you dig this.
  2. There were two Strata-East albums by that group - this one and "We've Been Around". Both very worthwhile. The best way to get the music is on a 2CD set by Smith on Claves, which contains both albums, an outtake from the first album, and 30 minutes of 1982 recordings: https://www.discogs.com/release/1990925-Warren-Smith-The-Composers-Workshop-Ensemble-Warren-Smith-The-Composers-Workshop-Ensemble

I pay them their $12/year "membership fee" to cut out the adds, and it's well worth it if you are a frequent visitor.

I have one of the CTI records. And 'The Dude' by Quincy Jones - that album is her great moment.

#mysterysolved? So #3 is cut 5 from the CD issue of this?
  7. I like that Baikida Carroll album. A lot. Really interesting musician.

Towards the challenge. If I own the album, it's on CD, which means I have the tune as a bonus cut.
  9. Thanks David, all good to know. The last Hubbard album with "wow" factor for me was 'Outpost', but I didn't hear him live after the VSOP 70's period except for a Dizzy memorial where he and Faddis were showboating, much to Wynton's annoyment. Those three were the trumpet section in the band that afternoon.

#3 is really driving me crazy.
  11. Well past Hubbard's prime, can't find a set list. Onkel Po series is fabulous, surprisingly so in many cases. Will wait for some feedback before jumping.
  12. Yeah, "Boogie Stop Shuffle" was the one I thought of immediately when I saw the topic.
  13. I know him mainly from the early Steve Miller Band albums, but he did a lot beyond that.
  14. Anyone familiar with these three titles and able to describe them more objectively than the usual Dusty Groove language? I'm likely in on all three on CD, as the label is of great interest to me, but would like to know more if possible. The Cox and the Woodard came out on BBE CD a couple years ago, and I picked them up then. Sphere - Inside Ourselves Contemporary Jazz Quintet - Black Hole Maulawi - Oruntunds
  15. Sorry to hear this, RIP. Enjoyed some of his albums, and he had some excellent bandmates in Dallas.
  16. Yes please, thanks Thom. We will remember Bill fondly.
  17. Same here. RIP.
  18. I am a big fan of Gene Clark's work, both with the Byrds and solo. Also like Crosby's work with the Byrds. Also love McGuinn's 12 string. IMO "Eight Miles High" was an unsurpassed breakthrough landmark in music, and came well before the other "psychedelic" work being discussed.
  19. I can even hear the wear on her voice by the end of her Verve era. Like so many musicians from that era, not a great personal life. Amazing to me that she lived to 87. But I do like her Verve work a lot.
  20. Anita O'Day Mosaic. I'm not really a fan of Mosaic sets, but couldn't pass this one up in an ebay auction. The music is great - she makes me actually listen closely to songs I have otherwise ignored through the decades ("Goodbye", "Stella By Starlight" etc.).
  21. This is a much better album than you think it is.
  22. Great guy, so sorry!

Oh no! So sorry to hear this - great guy.
  24. In Europe, Four and More/My Funny Valentine (both from same concert), and one of Agharta/Pangea/Dark Magus (need to go back and listen to them).
  25. I thought it was just on the "Mr. Tambourine Man" single that only McGuinn played on? Not aware it was the whole album.
