To double back on your first point, I would a lot more people listen to Classic Vinyl (I do) than to Real Jazz (I don't) in the car. Neil Young Radio took over Deep Tracks, which was an annoyance to me, as that is one of my favorites, but I did enjoy Neil Young Radio.

Iiiiiiiii'm getting clowoser to my howwwwwwme! I actually enjoy their Terry Knight-produced stuff. Mind you, I'm not saying it's good, but it hits a spot for me. Don Brewer singing killed the deal for me, as did the open misogyny of "We're An American Band".

BFT 215 Late to the party (life sometimes intervenes to interrupt my listening), but at least I get a participation medal. 1 – Pretty background music to me. 2 – Couldn’t get with the rhythm on this one, sort of like an old-time cartoon. Very annoying to me. 3 – Background music, though quite pretty. 4 – Beginning is totally lost on me, but it gets much better for me once it gains a little structure, and I end up liking it a fair amount. Certainly, some Flora Purim influence, maybe mixed in with a little Karin Krog. Good guitar. Urszula Dudziak? 5 – Certainly takes its time getting there. Quite a piano player, and a fine tenor player. I would suspect this one has the “big names”? Would like to own this one if I don’t already. 6 – Good cut, well worth hearing. Quite energetic. 7 – Another one where I’m not crazy about the rhythm, though it’s not the turnoff #2 is to me. They can all play. I do like bass clarinet. 8 – I like this a lot, both the tenor (shades of George Adams) and the guitar (very early-Coryell-ish). And good composition. Would like to have this one in my collection if I don’t already. 9 – Grabs me from the get-go, really enjoy the bass/drums time. Good cut. 10 – Meanders to me, though they can play. Thanks for an interesting BFT. Especially want to find out about #5 and #8, but also curious on several others.

I have a friend who went to high school with him, tells a funny story about being shocked that Todd would give up his gig as rhythm guitarist in Woody's Truck Stop to form some new group.

The guy who runs millionsofrecords used to run ebreggae, who had a good jazz selection. He always did a good job in keeping cd and shipping prices low, packing well, and shipping promptly.

FWIW, I'm a huge Rod Serling fan. (Twilight Zone and some of the earlier teleplays, especially "Requiem for a Heavyweight" and "The Arena"). Dan, thanks for the BFT and the shout out! Need to read that Nat Dixon article as soon as my NYT monthly freebies refresh tomorrow. Not at all familiar with him. Not at all surprisingly, I don't own any of the music on the BFT. As noted, the Frank Foster tune is most definitely not "Simone", which is one of my all-time favorite compositions. I do like Foster a lot.

Interesting, I've heard it the other way, that Taylor was the one opposed to it, and that he did not try to meld with Williams. Nonetheless, a very fascinating listen, though not a "together" one.

I'm glad to have "My Shining Hour", but agree it doesn't have the magic of the studio recordings.

Hammer and Jackson had more human warmth together than Taylor and Williams did.

I find that Zeitlin sounds much more Evans-like on some later albums than others. But in the 60's he sounded like himself.

Yes, included it in one of my BFT's a few years ago. I love it, though it received mixed reviews from the gang here. I am bummed about no CD. Hard to go wrong with a rhythm section of Bonner/McBee/Connors

Great set, and by far my favorite Zeitlin. I saw him at Penn's Landing in the late 80's. Technically superb, but didn't have the fire some of this material does. I have picked up several other items by him on the cheap through the years, and emotionally find it very hit or miss, though it's always masterfully played.

It hasn't been mentioned, but here is my favorite release of 2021, also my first or second favorite Gary Bartz album of all-time (along with the criminally neglected 'Home'). This is my go-to Bartz now. A more advanced/stretched out take on the great "I've Known Rivers" set.
