  1. I did, too. Great, very underrated drummer. Gene Rush played (beautifully) on the incredible early Lloyd McNeill albums, 'Washington Suite' and 'Aisha'. Not otherwise familiar with him.
  2. For that matter, I'm sitting here, working and listening to the new Mingus live 1964/1975 issue on Sunnyside, and realize that 'Changes 1/2' are also nowhere in sight on that 70's list. Another example of an excellent 70's ECM session largely overlooked (along with those Liebman/Beirach Lookout Farms) is Julian Priester's "Love Love", which is akin to and at least matches anything Herbie Hancock released in the 70's. I guess we could just do this on and on (for that matter, I'm game).
  3. Looks like August, September, and November.

I like the title track of For Losers quite a bit. The rest of the album holds little appeal for me. The key cuts on Kwanza go down better as bonus cuts on The Way Ahead. IMO. They clash with the For Losers type outtakes which complete Kwanza. Yasmina is a winner.
  5. The Hoffman Forum - where every issue of every recording ever made is a rare and precious treasure. BTW, the ebay listing is gone.
  6. Buck Hill also, right?
  7. 9 of the 10 titles were on Columbia or ECM. Guess the critics never heard Charles Tolliver or Billy Harper.
  8. Ebay has some very reasonably priced. Great CD.
  9. And Lloyd McNeill.
  10. He did play bass on on this 1971 album (as did Wrecking Crew great Joe Osborne, don't know who played on what). Referred to as Andrew "Muff" White, whatever that was all about.
  11. Anyone have any leads on where to get that Elvin Jones CD with White and Ari Brown at a reasonable price?
  12. It's amazingly good, and surprisingly diverse. I was on the fence for months, but made the jump and have no regrets.
  13. I've also had it on pre-order from ImportCD's for a while.
  14. Glad to see the Dave Holland on the 2000's and the Maria Schneider on the 2010's. I own 3 total from those two decades, as opposed to owning all 10 of the 70's selections.
  15. Nice article about this album in the Sunday Philadelphia Inquirer.

Agreed. Saw Harris twice in the 70's, once with Shepp, and once with George Adams/Hannibal Peterson, and he was a monster!
  17. Correct, with Reggie Workman and Roy Haynes. I love it!
  18. Yes, I responded and bought some of those albums based on the Cadence ads. Think I got them at Third Street Jazz, don't fully remember at this point. He was featured on Tyner's "Asante" album also.
  19. Me too, may be my favorite Shepp of all!
  20. Somehow I don't agree with the readers' assessment that Pat Metheny was the greatest jazz musician of the 1980-1999 period. I have a couple of the albums on those lists, but none I really care much if I ever hear again. And I feel bad for those who missed Joe Henderson's 1970's work on Milestone, and think his 90's work on Verve is all that. And when Bob James/David Sanborn makes a "10 best of the decade" list, well, that's a different reality than where I live.
  21. Can someone give links for the other decades? I only see readers polls, thx. FWIW, I own all 10 of the albums for the 70's, as I'm sure many here do.
