  1. I got the new one and am much happier with it. It is from vinyl and even basically admits so, stating that the original master tapes were not available. Lon, glad your Japanese copy is good, and I know your playback equipment is magnitudes better than mine, so that may have something to do with it. Here is my latest order from CDJapan. Would have liked to have included the upcoming Mainstream Charles Kynard release (as well as the Reuben Wilson SHM, the Johnny Hammond Smith Wild Horses CTI, and the Steve Kuhn Three Waves release), but that would have bumped me out of small packet shipping and added about another 14 yen to the shipping costs. Hoping they will all be available next time I order. I have the Buddy Terry on CD already, else I would be all over that one. Bob Dylan corner

Just received my 2CD set from Amazon, looking forward to listening tomorrow!
  3. I own this on the same label, and am very happy with/thankful for it:

    Al Shorter

I really like mid 60's-mid 70's Shepp, but "Doodlin'" is a waste. Always has sounded to me like it was just some sort of rehearsal tape rather than anything that was ever intended to be released. But if Shepp playing "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "Invitation" unrehearsded on piano sounds invigorating to you, have at it.
  5. For a lot of years, Norah Jones was their rent party. One of my favorite albums of all-time, not because I like the music (I don't particularly, though it's non-offensive), but because it funded many a miraculous Blue Note reissue.
  6. I'm definitely in for the Yellin and Caliman, already have an older CD of the Buddy Terry. Likely on some of the other titles like the Galper and the Jeffrey.
  7. "The Time Has Come" box set is sold. Individual CD's still available.
  8. Same for me - I've seen this before on my browser on one machine. I just downloaded and played those mp3's
  9. Honest question - did Joe Zawinul fundamentally change Wayne Shorter?
  10. I've finally found a description of a group in life where I comfortably fit - "music geeks who like esoteric, retro music". Thank you!
  11. IIRC 40 years later, Dexter was a special add-on, the double bill was scheduled to be Roach and Hutch. And I would not have been there in May, would have been there in November. My parents had 49'ers season tickets, so I used to go out during football season Here is an excerpt I found from the Keystone Korner book. Think it must be George Cables speaking. Christmas week sounds right, I remember going out to spend Christmas with my family in either '76 or '77. "114 I remember when I played with Dexter – I don’t know if this was the first time I played with Dexter there or not, but the marquee said, “Max, Dex, Hutch.” That was a Christmas/New Year’s week, a hell of a celebration. First, I’d play with Bobby [Hutcherson]; Bobby came on first. Then, Max [Roach] would come on with his piano-less band. And then, I’d come back and play [with Dexter]. The whole week! That was wonderful."
  12. Yes, also Rahsaan recorded the 'Bright Moments' double album there. I saw triple bill of Dex/Max Roach (with Billy Harper)/Bobby Hutcherson there ca. 1976/77, saw John Hendricks' Evolution of the Blues nearby the same week.
  13. Pentangle "The Time Has Come" 4CD box set including CD of live broadcast rarities. Excellent condition except that, as with so many of those book-sized sets, the stapled booklet has come loose from the binding. But still totally functional and whole. I will sell for $35 shipped in USA or best reasonable offer. Also have the six classic albums available on excellent 2001-2004 Castle CD reissues. "Pentangle", "Sweet Child" (2CD set), and "Basket of Light" all have bonus cuts (22 in total), "Cruel Sister", "Reflection", and "Solomon's Seal" are all straight reissues. All for $5 shipped in USA or best reasonable offer. Any of the above available for interesting trade, especially of mid-late-60's/ early-70's obscure but worthy folk-rock/psych/prog or very into exploring krautrock. PM or email john.felser@verizon.net if interested.
  14. Howard Tate - Get It While You Can: The Complete Legendary Verve Sessions. 29 track Hip-O Select Limited edition CD release from 2004. No.. 0452 of 5000. Mint condition, played twice. The lowest price with shipping that I see for this on the internet is about $62. I will sell for $35 shipped in USA or best reasonable offer or interesting trade, especially of mid-late-60's/ early-70's obscure but worthy folk-rock/psych/prog or very into exploring krautrock. PM or email john.felser@verizon.net if interested.
  15. One pretty awesome cut out on youtube. Would love to have this, or at least hear the rest!
  16. Can anyone give a description of the Mine and the Ohno? I find items like the early-70's Kikuchi sessions to be intriguing, but need to tread cautiously at Japanese import prices.
  17. Excellent set, I have one of the Japanese CD's of it. The one idea I ever submitted to Mosaic was for a Hutcherson-Land box to include this, the Land Mainstream dates with Hutcherson, and the Hutcherson Blue Notes with Land (and grab that one great live cut from ENJA). They said they were going to try, but I guess the cross-licensing was prohibitive.
  18. Yes it is, and pretty unique entry in the Rivers canon.
  19. Home to Sarah Vaughan's greatest recordings.
  20. Available for listening on youtube.
  21. PM sent on The Dizzy Gillespie Reunion Big Band 20th and 30th Anniversary MPS Gary Burton Quartet Real Life Hits ECM
