  1. Mine thankfully arrived today. Clunky, sometimes USA post offices don't scan outgoing mail, so you may not see an update until it arrives at its next destination (which in your case may well be the dreaded Jersey City bermuda triangle of postal service, where packages go to hibernate. They eventually make it overseas, but it can take a week to move through that facility).
  2. She was 93. Talented and charismatic. R.I.P.
  3. I'm in, though I'll wait to order from somewhere like ImportCD's or DeepDiscount, which I suspect will be $15-20 cheaper than Amazon. I have all of these albums on CD already, but the remastering and packaging are enough for me. Don't really care about the outtakes very much. I love "Moves", both "Changes", and the title track side of "Cumbia". The other three albums are interesting artifacts and very good in places.
  4. MIne's currently lost in the mail ☹️. Matt at Nimbus was very responsive, and the issue is with USPS, not them. But this is the last CD I would want to not arrive, as I may never see another copy!

    RIP Ahmad Jamal

RIP, great legacy. He was 92, recorded for like 70 years.
  6. This seemed to be RCA's idea of what to do with a good tenor player at that point:
  7. Fascinating article! Two questions: how could RCA be in play for a Miles/Trane album, when they didn't have either under contract. And did RCA really have more money than Columbia at that point? I thought Columbia was the biggest record company in that era.
  8. I love how you nailed ID'ing the horn players on #14 while totally dissing the track! I'm with you on Brecker 90% of the time, then he would throw in things like those incredible Hal Galper late 70's albums, just to mess with my head that he really could play. Same with Galper himself for that matter, how could musicians formerly so bold and creative become so bland and predictable? That's a rhetorical question BTW, I know the answers all too well.
  9. RIP, fascinating musician, so glad to hear he was also a wonderful human being.

  12. Added to discogs and ebay wantlists, thanks. Current best available price is $70, can't go there.
  13. I can trade if anyone runs into unexpected issues. I have December.
  14. Pharoah Sanders - Live at Fabrik, Jimmy Heath - The Classic Riverside Albums, and a used Heath Brothers - Brothers and others. All on CD
  15. I miss Ronnie's humanity and vulnerability,
  16. Go for it. I hope you have success with generating discussion. I gave up many years ago, as I put up what I thought were some fascinating albums, and by the end was getting almost nothing except a few snide comments. Shocking to me that people did not have much to say about something like "John Handy Live at Monterey" or "Jazz Contemporaries - Reasons In Tonality" (one of the greatest Strata-East albums, with Clifford Jordan, George Coleman, and Julius Watkins exploring new ground.), but there it was, or more accurately, there it wasn't.
  17. Yep. My experience also for many decades. One of the perks of working IT.
