  1. I'm getting it for Christmas (ordered it myself and passed along to wife for under the tree unwrapping!). Will dive in then.
  2. Kevin Toney, the excellent pianist who plays on this also played with White (and both were in The Blackbyrds).
  3. RIP to a master. Amazing run with the Delfonics, Stylistics and Spinners. I especially loved his work with the first two. One of the primary architects of Philly soul.
  4. He had a wife and kids who had to deal with his sustance abuse, lifestyle, and early death.
  5. Nothing. My understanding is this: Apparently the police declined to investigate it, according to Gen Lees. Hoffenberg's story is that he accidentally left the bottles at the bar when he left. Lees says Hoffenberg spiked McFarland's and David Burnett's drinks with it. McFarland was a tragic figure on a lot of levels, which does make his story creepy, though fascinating.
  6. Very well done documentary on a most enigmatic figure, thanks!
  7. Klemmer - 'Nexus', 'Waterfalls', 'Involvement' are about the only really good ones that can be found on CD, and the first two will cost you.
  8. $35 shipped in USA. Last price drop before listing it on ebay.

Amazing group, amazing clip, thanks so much for sharing! Musically that is a totally sweet spot for me. And the audience shots are priceless!
  10. Correct on all counts re: Stepney. He was a monster!
  11. Correct! Can't speak to lengths!
  12. It is the Pharoahs!
  13. You're right, thanks! Fully ID'd - 1,2,4,5,7,8,9,10 Artist and song ID'd, need album - 13 Artist ID'd, need song and album - 3 No ID - 6,11,12 Female singer in the group on 12 sold a few million records a decade later, and her biggest hit was featured in a great VISA commercial. Artist on 11 did his most famous work for others, including a beloved alto player. Some of the musicians in group on 6 went on to play with one of the iconic (possibly the MOST iconic) soul/r&b groups of the 70's.
  14. Even before those. This is from the late 60's. Mid-month summary: Fully ID'd - 1,2,4,5,7,8,9,10 Artist ID'd, need song and album - 3 No ID - 6,11,12,13 Jim noted one cut was Terry Callier, and one cut was "Casa Forte", but did not ID which cuts.
  15. RIP, loved the group. Was always so disappointed that they filmed their "Once Upon a Dream" multimedia show, but did not release it due to Felix holding out for a larger share. I would have liked to have attended in Philly, but ticket prices were way prohibitive.
  16. Iglesias will be an upgrade for the Braves.
  17. 3 different rhythm sections on the 65/66 set, and I prefer the repertoire on it also.
  18. Book is $22.79 at Amazon today, due to a $5.64 coupon they are offering. I just ordered.
  19. First time I've ever listened to it. The whole second disc is really bad, just noise (ended up fast forwarding through broad sections), but I actually liked the first disc, which was identifiable as music. Now listening to this, also for the first time, and liking it:
  20. I discovered that I somehow have two of Jonathan Horwich's beautiful 2011 Julius Hemphill Dogon A.D. 2011 International Phonograph CD release. Looking to find a good home for one of them (it's in great condition). $40 shipped in USA or best reasonable offer for sale or mutually beneficial trade. PM if interested.
  21. I do see this for the Miles Davis on Discogs: This release has been blocked from sale in the marketplace. It is not permitted to sell this item on Discogs.
