  1. Dodds no doubt is funkier and obviously so, no?
  2. So, what were you thinking about as the 3rd & 4th sides - maybe Circle in the Round and Dual Mr Tillman Anthony? Or that cut with Joe Chambers?
  3. Thanks for the lovely clips, enjoyed them both. Have to admit I kinda skipped through them though, surely you didn't listen thru all hour plus of something you didn't like? Yes Power Tools is a 'better'band - but Bill is still v. much the same guy, try PT's Unchained Melody for confirmation. Or try BF's Lalalalalalla Means I Love You on youtube for some thing relatively recent of his you might enjoy, that is if you actually like enjoying things, I'm never really quite sure if you do...And yes, I love Jimmy Day's playing with Ray Price, particularly on San Antonio Rose, but I fail to see the linkage here.
  4. or Shirley the girly, not that I'm doubting that she was, in all kinds of ways, fully grown, but it don't have the same ring to it if it don't rhyme.
  5. I kinda like it, but then I loved the strawberry shortcake cover to the Cellar Door box.
  6. My reference gives "Somethings Coming" for augmented 4/diminished 5, "There's a Place For Us"(aka Somewhere) and You Gotta Have Heart for ascending min7, just Watermelon Man for descending min7, and just I Love You descending and Ceora ascending for maj7, so what's that, like 2 new/more tunes?
  7. -40+F makes people tough, and it's a long way from S'toon to Toronto, and stilll longer from there to LA.
  8. That would be great, thanks Dana! Last night in bed I was singing them in my head and figured I might have to look at the tunes I wrote myself too since those are in my head anyway. One of them has a ascending minor 6th (same as Black Orpheus) and I was using that one all ready. I'll post my list too, it seems there are less tunes for descending intervals on existing lists. Busy day, hopefully tomorrow.
  9. It doesn't add up/hang together as an album, but it certainly has its moments, IIRC.
  10. I've got a list of examples for all these at home that I got from an ear-training book, I'll try to remember to find it and see what I can come up with.
  11. I heard him jamming with the locals at 25 Below (such a clever name) in Saskatoon, after a gig with Sonny a few years ago, but I haven't caught his trio live. There's a fair bit on Youtube, IIRC.
  12. Phil & Don had a blend that was, IMHO, just exquisite. Songs Our Daddy Taught Us is one of my favorite things, ever.
  13. I 'mamber hearing RJ I thought was 'rubbish', some I thought was OK 'for what it was', and a little bit I thought was just plain pretty damn nice, period. 51 is way too young in any case.
  14. I think many people think kinda the opposite, that they'd rather hear More Milt, preferably somewhere else. I've just come to accept that the MJQ is its own thing, different than the work of any of its members in other contexts.
  15. Indeed, you should...even when he was conpletely full of it, which was only sometimes, he was still worth reading.
  16. Hearing him quote Wade In the Water on one of those made me wish he'd done a full album of gospel/spirituals. I may be the only person sorely disappointed that they didn't include his take on Hey There Georgey Girl and Up Up & Away on the session they were from....
  17. I finally got this the other day after I took $50 out of a poker machine. Some of the in/out choices are odd, but programming a big chunk of the first ABB album right after Boz Scagg's "Loan Me a Dime" makes a pretty effective argument for the Brothers being a big step up from even the best session work.
  18. I love Stan the Man, have ALL the BNs, none of the CTI - I've heard bits and pieces and will probably get them eventually, just saving them for a rainy day. Among his many virtues is his ability to get the most out of a melody or riff, if the tune has anything at all to it, he'll get it. Much like Grant Green in that regard.
  19. Andrew was on staff here at Portland State University - I would hope someone interviewed/taped him then, but my impression the one time I met him was that he was painfully shy...
  20. He talked about how "serene" Herbie is, and said he could use some of that. And what a gentleman he is, Bill didn't say but I think he could use some of that too.
  21. I have this! should listen to it soon...
  22. I'm a huge fan of Johnny Gimble, alum of the both Bob Wills and his brother, and a guest on many Willie Nelson albums. Also Claude Williams and Joe Venuti deserve mention in this thread.
  23. it's...the sound of surprise! or zen, or something...
  24. Prisoner of Love is the name of the album I referenced above, the clips I've heard sound pretty darn good, and kinda like the gig JSngry played....
